Unmasking Young Learners’ Perceptions of Good Language Teacher Identity

This study explores the notion of ‘good language teacher’ (GLT) identity in the context of English education in South Korea. While other studies have investigated parents’ and general public preferences for and associations of good language teacher identity with ‘native-speaking’ teachers of English, little research has examined the views of young learners as to what constitutes a GLT. In this study, a survey tool was used to collect student images and descriptions of imagined, good English teachers. A total of 577 young Korean students (K-6th grade) provided their own images and descriptions of good English teachers, both in English and Korean. The findings indicate that student perceptions of GLT identity strongly reflects their immediate learning experience. Contrary to previous studies showing preference for teachers according to ‘native speaker’ or other markers (e.g., race, gender), the study demonstrated no strong preference for native speaking teachers. Instead, factors such as personality were emphasized. This study provides implications for recruiting and hiring practices for English teachers.
Dynamic Modeling of Coupled Tendon-Driven System for Surgical Robot Instrument

This paper is the study of a surgical instrument which directly performs MIS(Minimally Invasive surgery) on a patient, instead of asurgeon. The instrument used in robot assisted laparoscopy adopts a tendon driven mechanism so that it generates hand-like surgicalmotion through aperture of trocar. To create a high DOF of motion in restricted spaces, cable systems for end-effector have beenorganized by serial kinematic chains which can cause interference among joints sharing same axis. Also, to prevent the elongationof any cable, composited and pre-extended cables, which show nonlinear characteristics, are used in surgical instrument tendonsystem. As aforementioned difficulty and complexity, there are not many studies about measuring or estimating the operating forceof instruments without sensors, which is needed for safety but still impossible in commercial systems. This paper derives governinga dynamic model of a coupled cable pulley structure while considering the material tensile characteristics of the cables. The derivedmodel can estimate the operating force on end-effector as well as states of all inner pulleys without encoders. This paper proves theavailability of proposed methodology with comparison of numerical analysis and the experimental test of 2 DOF serial kinematicchained cable pulley link apparatus.
Various Master Sintering Curve Concepts and its Applications

The master sintering curve (MSC) is derived from densification data over a range of heating rates and temperatures. To improve the accuracy, several modifications were proposed: multi-phase MSC for solid state sintering with phase changes, MSC for liquid phase sintering, and MSC with consideration of grain growth. The developed MSC models were applied to several material systems such as molybdenum, stainless steels, and tungsten heavy alloys (WHA), in order to evaluate the effect of compaction pressure, phase change, grain growth, and composition on densification, to classify regions having different sintering mechanism, and to help engineer design, optimize, and monitor sintering cycles.

목적: 회전근 개 질환 환자의 견봉하 점액낭 조직에서, cDNA Array 기법을 이용하여 염증 사이토카인 및 수용체들의 발현 양상을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 회전근 개 질환 환자 18명과 정상 견봉하 점액낭 조직을 가진 환자 4명의 견봉하 점액낭 조직을 수술 도중 채취한 후, cDNA Array 기법을 이용하여 염증 반응에 관여하는 사이토카인 및 수용체들의 유전자 발현 양상을 두 군에서 비교 분석하였다. 통계학적 분석은 Mann Whitney U test와 t-test를 이용하였다. 결과: 회전근 개 질환 환자군에서 비교군에 비하여 유의한 수준으로 증가된 사이토카인들은 interleukin군(IL-1, 6, 12, 13, 15, 16 및 17)과 수용체들, lymphotoxin, small inducible cytokine군, chemokine receptor군(CCR 4, 6 및 7), 그리고 stromal cell derived factor-1 (SDF-1)이었다(p<0.05). 결론: 회전근 개 질환 환자의 견봉하 점액낭 조직에서 염증 반응에 관여하는 사이토카인의 발현이 유의하게 증가하였다. 이러한 결과는 견봉하 점액낭에서 염증반응이 활발히 진행되고 있음을 나타내며, 이러한 염증반응이 회전근 개 질환 환자에서 견관절 동통을 일으키는 중요한 유발 인자 중의 하나임을 시사한다. Purpose: To examine the expression pattern of inflammatory cytokines/receptors in the subacromial bursa of patients with rotator cuff disease using a cDNA(Complement DNA) Array technique. Materials and Methods: Twenty two human subacromial bursal specimens were obtained intraoperatively from patients during shoulder surgery (18 bursitis, 4 normal bursa). The RNA was isolated from the bursal tissues and the presence of gene expression was analyzed using a cDNA Array technique. The statistical differences between bursitis and the normal bursa specimens were determined using a Mann Whitney U test and Student's t-test. Results: cDNA Array analysis revealed a significant increase in the expression of several cytokine genes and their receptors in patients with subacromial bursitis compared with the controls (p<0.05). These cytokines included the interleukins (IL-1, 6, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17) and their receptors, Iymphotoxin, small inducible cytokines, chemokine receptor (CCR 4, 6, 7) and stromal cell derived factor-1 (SDF-1). Conclusion: This study demonstrated a significant increase in many inflammatory cytokines in the subacromial bursa of patients with rotator cuff disease. This suggests that there is an active inflammatory reaction at the subacromial bursa in rotator cuff disease.

The first all-sky mid-/far-infrared survey by IRAS in the 1980s, has been followed by only two more, by AKARI, from 2006, and WISE in 2010. I discuss some features of the WISE survey, and highlight some key results from early extragalactic observations that have been made by the science team during the operation of the telescope, and the post-operation proprietary period during which the public release data products were being generated. The efficient survey strategy and very high-data rate from WISE produced a catalogue of 530 million objects that was released to the public in March 2012. The WISE survey strategy naturally provided the deepest coverage at the ecliptic poles, where matched comparison fields were obtained using Spitzer, and where AKARI also observed deep fields. I describe some of the follow-up work that has been carried out based on the WISE survey, and the prospects for enhancing the WISE data by combining the AKARI survey results are also discussed. While the all-sky AKARI survey is less deep than the WISE catalogue, and is still being worked on by the AKARI science team, it includes a larger number of bands, extends to longer wavelengths, and in particular has very complementary band passes to WISE in the mid-infrared waveband, which will provide enhanced spectral information for relatively bright targets.
