Antimicrobial Efficacy of Penicillium amestolkiae elv609 Extract Treated Cotton Fabric for Diabetic Wound Care

( Nur Amiera Syuhada Binti Rozman ),( Nurhanis Syafiqah Binti Mohd Nor Hamin ),( Leong Chean Ring ),( Tan Wen Nee ),( Mahfuzah Binti Mustapha ),( Tong Woei Yenn ) 한국균학회 2017 Mycobiology Vol.45 No.3

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disorder which affects millions of population worldwide. Global estimates published in 2010 reported the world diabetic prevalence as 6.4%, affecting 285 million adults. Foot ulceration and wound infection are major forms of disabilities arising from diabetic diseases. This study was aimed to develop a natural antimicrobial finishing on medical grade textile that meets American Association of Textiles Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) standard. The textile samples were finished with the ethanolic extract of Penicillium amestolkiae elv609, an endophytic fungus isolated from Orthosiphon stamineus Benth (common name: cat`s whiskers). Endophyte is defined as microorganism that reside in the living plant tissue, without causing apparent disease symptom to the host. The antimicrobial efficacy of the ethanolic extract of P. minioluteum was tested on clinical pathogens isolated from diabetic wound. The extract exhibited significant inhibitory activity against 4 bacteria and 1 yeast with the minimal inhibitory concentration ranged from 6.25 to 12.5 mg/mL. The results indicate different susceptibility levels of the test microorganism to the ethanolic extract. However, the killing activity of the extract was concentration-dependent. The finished medical textile showed excellent antimicrobial efficacy on AATCC test assays. All the microbial cultures treated with the textile sample displayed a growth reduction of 99.9% on Hoheinstein Challenge Test. The wash durability of the finished textile was found good even after 50 washes with commercial detergent. Besides, the gas chromatography mass spectrometry analysis showed that 6-octadecenoic acid and diethyl phthalate were the main bioactive constituents of the extract. In conclusion, the developed medical textile showed good antimicrobial efficacy on laboratory tests. This work can be extended to in vivo trials for developing healthcare textile products for antimicrobial applications.

Findings: The findings report a negative relationship between corporate governance structure and corporate risk-taking using a sample of firms from an emerging market. Research limitations/implications: The effects of these results for management practice and recommendations for further research were examined. Nur Ruhaiqa Binti Zulkifli,Nor Aina Fatini Binti Zakaria,김계수 한국생산관리학회 2023 한국생산관리학회지 Vol.34 No.1

When COVID-19 emerged, it affected numerous industries included fisheries supply chain in Malaysia, including Malaysia's fisheries supply chain. It was declared a pandemic in Malaysia and the government implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO), which prohibited all types of travel and Malaysia’s artisanal fishers are suffering net losses. Most fishing areas are either in rural areas and the only things that have improved are after COVID-19, when they implemented technologies. To implement such changes, the behaviour of Malaysian society and fishermen needs to be considered where the acceptance behavioural should be observesobserved. This research implemented DXAM (Digital Transformation Acceptance Model) by distributed questionnaire to 100 respondents and analysed the result using SmartPLS4. Results show that the most of the hypotheses research models were accepted and exemplifies exemplify the significance of path analysis. It shows the behaviour toward these changes is accepted where research and in-depth study are required. This study aims an improvement on Malaysia's distribution path on marine fisheries according to supply chain risk through DX. With the use of DX, it helps to produce and provide an impact that helps to improves.

      • Subsidy Rationalisation for General Purpose Flour: Market and Economics Implications

Fatimah Binti Kari,Muhammad Mehedi Masud,Md. Khaled Saifullah 한국유통과학회 2017 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.4 No.2

Subsidies are an instrumental policy making tool for many governments, but their importance depends on the market situation of the national economy. Efficient subsidy implementation would allow the government to correct market failure thereby aligning social and private costs and benefit. The general objective of this study is to justify the need to rationalise subsidies for food items such as flour. This study assessed the structure and conducts of the general purpose flour market in Malaysia; and analysed the impact of subsidies on market performance to recommend policies to increase market efficiency under the subsidy rationalisation program. To accomplish these objectives, the study adopted a microeconomics market analysis as well as the standard structure and performance analysis method. These two approaches showed the characteristics of an industry’s consumer behaviour, competition, as well as the efficiency associated with government regulatory policies on the flour industry. One of the biggest influences on the domestic market is related to the food consumption behaviour of the general population. Food consumption behaviour reflects global trends. As income rises, food trends tend to be consumed in processed form or in such a way that adds value in another manner such as the preparation of food products.

      • Choosing 'the road less traveled by' and How It Has Made Lots of Differences

Mahani binti Mokhtar 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2012 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 학술대회자료집 Vol.2012 No.10

The policy of compulsory education in Malaysia has resulted in the increase of enrolment of female students at tertiary level. Based on the statistics in 2007, the enrolment of female undergraduates at public universities in Malaysia was higher than the male students however the figure at postgraduate level was the opposite. The statistics indicated that pursuing postgraduate studies were not a choice among female bachelor holders. This trend can be detrimental for the development of higher education in Malaysia since PhD credentials are important towards advancement of knowledge and development of universities. Therefore I believe that those who were willing to venture into this academic journey should be applauded and their experiences so should be studied. Thus, this study aimed to explore the experiences of female PhD students in Education at one university in Malaysia. This exploration is vital since the findings would add towards the development of doctoral programs in the university specifically in providing teaching and learning facilities which fulfill the needs of female students. Furthermore, a research specifically on female students is rare since most studies done in the areas of adult learning and doctoral studies involved both genders. This study was conducted qualitatively whereby eighteen female PhD students who were enrolled in Faculty of Education at one university took part in individual interview sessions and four of them participated in a focus group session. Data were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that the choice to choose ;the road that was less traveled by; had made lots of differences in the students' lives. Two major themes were derived and coded as Personal and Academic experiences. The students' narrations revolved around the experiences of juggling their lives as PhD students and also fulfilling their personal, social, cultural and religious obligations.
