Comparison of Digestive Function Among Rabbits, Guinea-Pigs, Rats and Hamsters. II. Digestive Enzymes and Hindgut Fermentation

Yu, Bi,Chiou, Peter Wen-Shyg,Kuo, Chung-Yi Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2000 Animal Bioscience Vol.13 No.11

The aim of this trial was to study the response of laboratory animals including omnivores (rats) and herbivores (rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters) to the same level of dietary fiber on their digestive enzymes and hindgut fermentation. Ten weanling animals of each of four species, rabbits, guinea-pigs, rats and Syrian hamster, were fed a basal diet of 18% crude protein and 10% crude fiber for six weeks. The digesta and tissue of each intestinal segment were collected to measure the activity of digestive enzymes. Rabbits contained the highest secreted pepsin activity in the stomach, whereas rats contained the highest protease and ${\alpha}-amylase$ activity in the small intestine, and lower fibrous hydrolases in the hindgut than rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters. The total VFA productions in the caecum and colon were highest in rats, followed by hamsters and rabbits, while the guinea pigs contained the lowest VFA and a different pattern of VFA molar ratio from the other laboratory animals. The degree of hindgut fermentation in these laboratory animals was in reverse to the trend for their fiber digestion.

아시아·태평양 전쟁기 한인 전쟁 포로의 심문조서 분석

김유비(Kim, Yu Bi) 독립기념관 한국독립운동사연구소 2021 한국독립운동사연구 Vol.- No.74

This study analyzed the POW interrogation reports of Korean military personnel and civilian employees(Gunzoku) who were captured by the Allied Forces in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) during the Pacific War. In the Pacific War, the Empire of Japan mobilized human resources and supplies in a total mobilization system, and forcibly mobilized Koreans from colonial Korea. The mobilized Koreans suffered greatly under this system including death from Allied attacks, starvation due to the disregard for supplies by the Japanese army and navy, illness due to endemic disease, and death by drowning at sea during the sinking of transport ships. Among them, a small number of Koreans surrendered to the US military and other allied forces and became prisoners of war and survived. The Allied Forces captured Japanese military personnel and civilian employees and actively interrogated them. The information provided by the POWs was used in Allied operations against Japan. The Japanese, who had not been pre-educated to become POWs, exposed and provided information to the Allied Forces. Among them, Korean military personnel and civilian employees were also taken prisoners by the Allied Forces, and provided various information to the Allied Forces, from personal information to information on the Japanese Army and information on colonial Korea. Such information was compiled in interrogation reports and shared among the Allied Forces who used the information to strengthen the Allied war effort. Such Interrogation Reports have an exceptionally important value because they contain the vivid statements and descriptions of the Koreans who survived at that time. However, until now, they have not been used for research on the Koreans mobilized to the Southwest Pacific region. In this study, I investigated and analyzed the Interrogation Reports of Korean military personnel and civilian employees who were taken prisoners on the Southwest Pacific Front, and confirmed the records of 86 prisoners of war, including 41 military personnel and 45 civilian employees. These reports confirmed that most of them were special volunteer soldiers of the Japanese army, and those who joined the Japanese army were discriminated against and abused and were forced to volunteer. The civilian employees were army and navy civilian employees, and I was able to confirm the interrogation reports of the civilian employees who belonged to various units such as the Navy Construction Corps and the civilian employees belonging to the Navy Patriotic Work Group. From the process of their mobilization to their route to the battlefield as well as details of their suffering, the interrogation reports reveal a wealth of information recorded at that time. In the appendix of this study, I would like to organize the list of Korean POWs on the Southwest Pacific Front and contribute to the subsequent research.

      • Imbalanced Data Classification Based on AdaBoost-SVM

        Li Peng,Bi Ting-ting,Yu Xiao-yang,Li Si-ben 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.7 No.5

The classification of imbalanced data is one of the most challenging problems in data mining and machine learning research. Imbalanced dataset is a form that exists in reality area, which describes truly and objectively the essential characters of something. There will appear paucity of data and flooded in the classification of imbalanced dataset. Beside problems such as loss of information and data splitting phenomenon will also appear when using the traditional machine learning methods. So how to solve the classification problem of imbalanced data will be challenging. In this paper, aiming at the above problems, a classification algorithm based on AdaBoost-SVM is proposed. In the experiments with four typical forms of imbalanced data sets in UCI were validated the effectiveness of this strategy.

Protectin DX increases alveolar fluid clearance in rats with lipopolysaccharideinduced acute lung injury

        Xiao-Jun Zhuo,Yu Hao,Fei Cao,Song-Fan Yan,Hui Li,Qian Wang,Bi-Huan Cheng,Bin-Yu Ying,Bin-Yu Ying,Sheng-Wei Jin 생화학분자생물학회 2018 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.50 No.-

Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a life-threatening critical syndrome resulting largely from the accumulation of and the inability to clear pulmonary edema. Protectin DX, an endogenously produced lipid mediator, is believed to exert anti-inflammatory and pro-resolution effects. Protectin DX (5 μg/kg) was injected i.v. 8 h after LPS (14 mg/kg) administration, and alveolar fluid clearance was measured in live rats (n = 8). In primary rat ATII epithelial cells, protectin DX (3.605 × 10−3 mg/l) was added to the culture medium with LPS for 6 h. Protectin DX improved alveolar fluid clearance (9.65 ± 1.60 vs. 15.85 ± 1.49, p < 0.0001) and decreased pulmonary edema and lung injury in LPSinduced lung injury in rats. Protectin DX markedly regulated alveolar fluid clearance by upregulating sodium channel and Na, K-ATPase protein expression levels in vivo and in vitro. Protectin DX also increased the activity of Na, K-ATPase and upregulated P-Akt via inhibiting Nedd4–2 in vivo. In addition, protectin DX enhanced the subcellular distribution of sodium channels and Na, K-ATPase, which were specifically localized to the apical and basal membranes of primary rat ATII cells. Furthermore, BOC-2, Rp-cAMP, and LY294002 blocked the increased alveolar fluid clearance in response to protectin DX. Protectin DX stimulates alveolar fluid clearance through a mechanism partly dependent on alveolar epithelial sodium channel and Na, K-ATPase activation via the ALX/PI3K/Nedd4–2 signaling pathway.

      • Prognostic Implications for High Expression of MiR-25 in Lung Adenocarcinomas of Female Non-smokers

        Xu, Fang-Xiu,Su, Yu-Liang,Zhang, Huan,Kong, Jin-Yu,Yu, Herbert,Qian, Bi-Yun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.3

Background: Adenocarcinoma (ADC) is the most common histological type of lung cancer and its proportion is rising, especially in Asian non-smoking women. Recent studies suggest miR-25 may have diverse effects on the pathogenesis of different types of cancer. However, the role of miR-25 in lung cancer is still unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential clinical value of miR-25 in non-smoking women with lung ADC. Patients and Methods: Quantitative RT-PCR was performed to evaluate the expression of miR-25 in 100 lung ADC tumor tissues and matched plasma samples and Pearson correlation tests were used to analyze the relationship between values. Associations of miR-25 expression with clinicopathological features were determined using the Student's t-test. To determine prognostic value, overall survival (OS) was evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using the Cox proportional hazard model. Results: Expression of miR-25 in tissue was found to be associated with lymph node metastasis (P=0.021) and disease stage (P=0.012). Moreover, high miR-25 expression was also associated with poorer overall survival of women with lung ADC (P=0.008). Conclusion: Tissue miR-25 expression may be associated with tumor progression and have prognostic implications in female lung ADC patients.

        Li, Hui-Yan,Ge, Xin,Huang, Guang-Ming,Li, Kai-Yu,Zhao, Jing-Quan,Yu, Xi-Miao,Bi, Wen-Si,Wang, Yu-Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.7

Aim: Platinum agents have shown to be effective in the treatment of colorectal cancer. We assessed whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in GSTP1, ERCC1 Asn118Asn and ERCC2 Lys751Gln might predict the overall survival in patients receiving oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy in a Chinese population. Methods: SNPs of GSTP1, ERCC1 Asn118Asn and ERCC2 Lys751Gln in 335 colorectal cancer patients were assessed using TaqMan nuclease assays. Results: At the time of final analysis on Nov. 2011, the median follow-up period was 37.7 months (range from 1 to 60 months). A total of 229 patients died during follow-up. Our study showed GSTP1 Val/Val (HR=0.44, 95% CI=0.18-0.98), ERCC1 C/C (HR=0.20, 95% CI=0.10-0.79) and ERCC2 G/G (HR=0.48, 95% CI=0.19-0.97) to be significantly associated with better survival of colorectal cancer. GSTP1 Val/Val, ERCC1 C/C and ERCC2 G/G were also related to longer survival among patients with colon cancer, with HRs (95% CIs) of 0.41 (0.16-0.91), 0.16 (0.09-0.74) and 0.34 (0.16-0.91), respectively. Conclusion: GSTP1, GSTP1, ERCC1 Asn118Asn and ERCC2 Lys751Gln genotyping might facilitate tailored oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy for colorectal cancer patients.
