The objective of this research is to analyze how Herman Melville's perception on American history and thought are expressed in his Pierre; or, the Ambiguities. As an American-made individual, Pierre’s tragedy is caused not only by a personal fault stemming from his ignorance, but also by a social cause as well, which comes from the duplicity of American thought. Based on the analysis of the Declaration of Independence as a representative document revealing the duplicity of American history and thought, I tried to examine Melville's satirical response to the duality of American thought represented by the parody of Saddle Meadows and the Glendinning family, exaggerated rhetoric of the main characters, and multiple-layered meaning of the narrative. Consequently, Pierre's irrational thought and act, which is done being blinded Transcendentalist thought and finally leads him to the tragic fate, can be read as Pierre's effort to create his own fiction throughout the narrative; this American-made individual makes his own fiction and myth, however fails. And directly related to this, Pierre's obsessive pursuit toward the absolute truth, which does not exist, also might be read as a result of fictitiousness made by him. Melville's recognition of the duplicity and ironies in American history in Pierre might be seen as his doubt and answer to the national conflict of America in the nineteenth century; also to a question of what Americanness is, which is metaphorically represented as the characteristic of Saddle Meadows and brings out an individual
도덕과 교육에서 한자 활용 방안 및 의의 연구 - 2015 개정 교육과정 4학년 교과서를 중심으로 -

전통윤리교육은 도덕 교과 설정의 중요한 배경과 근거로 제시되어왔다. 그러나 전통윤리교육이 도덕과 교육과정 구성의 내용과 원리로 활용되고 있는가에 대해서는 비판적 논의가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 2015 개정 교육과정 초등학교 4학년 교과서 및 지도서를 중심으로 현행 도덕과 교육과정에서 전통윤리교육적 내용을 어떻게 활용하고 있는가를 분석하고, 도덕교육의 내용으로서 한자를 활용하여 전통윤리교육과의 연계성을 강화할 것을 주장하고자 한다. 한자 활용을 통해 도덕교육은 전통윤리교육과의 연계성을 강화시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 범교과 학습 주제로서 제시되는 한자 교육과의 융합교육의 가능성을 시사하게 된다. 또한 한자 교수·학습 자료에 담긴 서사를 도덕교육의 소재로 활용함으로써 다양한 서사를 통한 도덕교육이 구현될 수 있을 것이다. Traditional ethics education has been suggested as an important background and basis for the establishment of moral education. However, it is necessary to discuss critically whether traditional ethics education is being used as the content and principles of morality curriculum composition. This study aims to analyze the use of traditional ethics education in the current moral curriculum, focusing on textbooks and guidance for fourth graders in the 2015 revised curriculum, and to strengthen the link with traditional ethics education by utilizing Chinese characters. Through the use of Chinese characters, moral education not only strengthens the link with traditional ethics education, but also suggests the possibility of convergence education with Chinese character education, which is presented as Cross-curricular Themes. In addition, moral education through various narratives can be implemented by using the narratives contained in Chinese character teaching-learning materials as materials for moral education.
Sum Rate Maximization of an MIMO Two-Way Relay System Using MSE Duality

<P>In this letter, we propose a novel joint beamforming scheme using mean-square error (MSE) duality to maximize the sum rate of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) two-way relay system. It is difficult to solve the sum rate maximization problem directly due to its non-convexity. To manage this difficulty, the optimization problem is reformulated as a problem that minimizes the product of the minimum mean-square errors. Then, we show that the per stream MSE duality holds in a two-way relay system under cross power constraints. Based on the per stream MSE duality, an alternate algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize the linear transceivers. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing linear schemes in view of the sum rate maximization.</P>
Concentric Circle-Based Image Signature for Near-Duplicate Detection in Large Databases

Many applications dealing with image management need a technique for removing duplicate images or for grouping related (near-duplicate) images in a database. This paper proposes a concentric circle-based image signature which makes it possible to detect near-duplicates rapidly and accurately. An image is partitioned by radius and angle levels from the center of the image. Feature values are calculated using the average or variation between the partitioned sub-regions. The feature values distributed in sequence are formed into an image signature by hash generation. The hashing facilitates storage space reduction and fast matching. The performance was evaluated through discriminability and robustness tests. Using these tests, the particularity among the different images and the invariability among the modified images are verified, respectively. In addition, we also measured the discriminability and robustness by the distribution analysis of the hashed bits. The proposed method is robust to various modifications, as shown by its average detection rate of 98.99%. The experimental results showed that the proposed method is suitable for near-duplicate detection in large databases.
