Awang, Halimah,Mansor, Norma Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute 2018 Safety and health at work Vol.9 No.3

Background: The success of an injury intervention program can be measured by the proportion of successful return to work (RTW). This study examined factors of successful return to employment among workers suffering from work-related injuries. Methods: Data were obtained from the Social Security Organization, Malaysia database consisting of 10,049 RTW program participants in 2010-2014. The dependent variable was the RTW outcome which consisted of RTW with same employer, RTW with new employer or unsuccessful return. Multinomial logistic regression was performed to test the likelihood of successful return with same employer and new employer against unsuccessful return. Results: Overall, 65.3% of injured workers were successfully returned to employment, 52.8% to the same employer and 12.5% to new employer. Employer interest; motivation; age 30-49 years; intervention less than 9 months; occupational disease; injuries in the lower limbs, upper limbs, and general injuries; and working in the manufacturing, services, and electrical/electronics were associated with returning to work with the same employer against unsuccessful return. Male, employer interest, motivation, age 49 years or younger, intervention less than 6 months, occupational disease, injuries in the upper limbs and services sector of employment were associated with returning to new employer against unsuccessful return. Conclusion: There is a need to strengthen employer commitment for early and intensified intervention that will lead to improvement in the RTW outcome.

Hafizuddin Awang,Azriani Ab Rahman,Surianti Sukeri,Noran Hashim,Nik Rubiah Nik Abdul Rashid 대한가정의학회 2020 Korean Journal of Family Medicine Vol.41 No.6

Background: The need for client feedback in assessing healthcare services is widely recognized. However, little is known about the satisfaction of adolescent clients utilizing healthcare services in Malaysia. To the best of our knowledge, there is no validated instrument to measure the satisfaction of adolescent clients attending health clinics in Malaysia. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the reliability of the Malay version of the Malaysian Ministry of Health’s Adolescent Client Satisfaction Questionnaire among adolescents attending health clinics in northeastern Malaysia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in January 2019 among adolescents aged 10–19 years attending four designated health clinics in the northeastern state of Peninsular Malaysia. The test for Cronbach’s α was performed to determine the internal consistency reliability. Results: There were a total of 85 adolescent clients involved in this study. The mean age of respondents was 15.6 years. The majority of respondents were female, Malay, students, and had attained a secondary level of education. The mean total satisfaction score was 78.35. The internal consistency reliability according to the Cronbach’s α of the domain was 0.854, which is considered highly reliable. The corrected item-total correlation for the domain was acceptable as it was ≥0.4. Conclusion: The Malay version of the Malaysian Ministry of Health’s Adolescent Client Satisfaction Questionnaire has excellent internal consistency reliability. Therefore, it may be recommended as a tool to measure the satisfaction level among adolescents attending health clinics in Malaysia.

Enhanced spectroscopic properties and JuddeOfelt parameters of Er-doped tellurite glass: Effect of gold nanoparticles

        Asmahani Awang,S. K. Ghoshal,M. R. Sahar,M. Reza Dousti,Raja J. Amjad,Fakhra Nawaz 한국물리학회 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.8

Glasses with composition 70TeO2e20ZnOe10Na2Oe0.5Er2O3e(x)Au are synthesized by melt-quenching technique. Their spectroscopic and optical characterizations are made. The presence of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) with average size w9 nm is confirmed from TEM micrograph. The value of Edir is found to lie between 3.082 and 3.073 eV, while Eindir lies within 2.765 to 2.724 eV. The observed visible upconversion (UC) emission under 779 nm excitation wavelength exhibits two bands centered at 546 nm (green) and 637 nm (red) in all samples. The glass with 0.4 mol% Au NPs shows dominant enhancement in the UC emission intensity of the order of 3.5 times for the green band (4S3/2 / 4I15/2)and a weaker enhancement for the red (4F9/2 / 4I15/2) band. The optical properties of the system are affirmed to depend strongly on the Au concentration in the dielectric medium. The absorption spectra consist of six bands attributed to absorption from ground state (4I15/2) to 4I13/2, 4I11/2, 4I9/2, 4F9/2, 2H11/2,and 4F7/2 excited states. The structural reveals that the types of bonding and difference in electronegativity can be manipulated by the presence of metallic NPs in glass matrix. JuddeOfelt analysis asserts the increase in U2 and U6 parameters with the addition of Au NPs and the enhancement of green and red emissions. The enhancement is mainly attributed to large plasmonic effect of Au NPs. The proposed glasses can be nominated as potential materials for solid state laser developments.

      • Resistivity Measurement of Field and Laboratory for Layered Soils

        ( Haryati Awang ),( Nor Hayati A. Hamid ),( M. Idris Ali ),( Noram I Ramli ) 대한지질공학회 2019 대한지질공학회 학술발표회논문집 Vol.2019 No.2

This study is about characterising the properties and types of multilayered soil profile. The purpose is to compare between the resistivity value obtain from field and laboratory tests. The field measurement was carried out on the surface of an excavated ground. The laboratory test was conducted on the material collected from each layer of the subsurface. The results of this study showed that both profiles from resistivity images and actual profiles are matched to each other when overlaid. The resistivity images showed three (3) different resstivity layers indicated by three main resistivity values. The top, midle and bottom layers of the sub surface were characterised as a compacted filled soil of brownish and redish in colour with the thickness of 0.9m, dark brown of 0.3m thick and dark bluish gray soil of 1.1m thick accordingly. The soil of layer 1 (top), layer 2(midle) and layer 3 (bottom) were classified correspondingly as CLAY of Intermediate Plasticity, as SILT of High Plasticity and as CLAY of Intermediate Plasticity. In comparison to the resistivity value between field and laboratory, layer 1, layer 2 and layer 3 of actual profile are ranged from 40 ohm.m to 150 ohm.m, 10 ohm.m to 35 ohm.m, and 0 ohm.m to 9 ohm.m. In parallel to the field resistivity value, the soil material namely as geo-resistivity index of samples of each layer are in the range of 45 ohm-m to 55 ohm-m, 9 ohm-m to 14 ohm-m and 4.5 ohm-m to 9.6 ohm-m.
