In this study we report the synthesis and preliminary evaluation of a series of six 2-aryl-5(6)-nitro-1H-benzimidazole derivatives (1-6) as potential anticancer agents. Cytotoxicity was evaluated against seven human neoplastic cell lines using the MTT assay. Compound 6 [2-(4-chloro-3-nitrophenyl)-5(6)-nitro-1H-benzimidazole] was the most active of the series, showing an IC_50 of 28 nM against the A549 cell line. This compound displayed a selective in vitro cytotoxic activity index (>700) in non neoplastic HACAT cells (IC_50 = 22.2 μM). Compounds 3 and 6 induce arrest in the S phase of the cell cycle, and compounds 1-6 induce apoptosis in the K562 cell line. Compound 6 induces poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibition activity as a potential mechanism of action. These results suggest that compound 6 could be a potent anticancer agent. Compound 3 displayed the best inhibitory activity against PARP with an IC_50 value of 0.05 μM, compared to the activity shown by the positive control 3-aminobenzamide (IC_50 = 28.5 μM).

After the 2016 elections, cross-Strait relations have fallen to their lowest point since the Third Strait Crisis. A proliferation of state-driven strategic narratives by both sides has since emerged. Against Beijing’s narratives of “national rejuvenation,” peaceful reunification, and “1992 Consensus,” the Tsai administration has contraposed an image of Taiwan as a “beacon” of freedom and democracy in the Indo-Pacific. By tracing the tenets and the operationalization of Beijing and Taipei’s strategic communications from the late 2000s to 2020, this article shows how Chinese and Taiwanese actors’ reactions to the systemic pressure of a shifting East Asian regional order have progressively shaped cross-Strait communicative dynamics, severely constraining the range of options that could overcome the current impasse.

The energy growing demand and the international environmental policies contribute to the use of renewable energy sources. Among these sources, biogas has acquired great relevance due to its energetic similarity to fuels such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas (NG). However, biogas needs to be upgraded by removing CO2 and trace gases to obtain biomethane (>85% CH4). This review identifies and classifies seven techniques used in biogas upgrading, reported in academic and scientific publications. A 13-year review period (2008–2021) was considered. Lineal regression was used to analyze the publications number per year. Membranes use represents the largest proportion of publications (33%), while activated carbon (AC) reaches only 22%. However, the use and application of AC obtained the best trend as a publication topic, with a maximum value of R2 = 0.7882. This review documents publish works on obtaining and applying AC in biogas enrichment processes. It includes a review of the characteristics and generation rates of various residual lignocellulosic materials used in the synthesis of AC, the synthesis processes, the characterization techniques, and the final adsorption capacities.
Predictive Modelling of Colour Strength and Ink Penetration (%) of Inkjet-Printed Cotton

Recent times have seen a rising interest in inkjet printing of textiles due to potential benefits it offers over conventional printing methods such as lean set-up costs and enabling cost effective short runs. The growing interest has made pretreatment of fabric to be the subject of much recent research. The aim of the study was to develop a model which can predict the colour strength and ink penetration (%) of inkjet-printed cotton as a function of pre- and post- treatment process variables. The independent variables investigated were concentration of thickener, urea, and alkali and steaming time. The experimental plan was based on the full factorial design. Predictive models were constructed by modelling the values of the independent variables and their coefficient of regression. It can be concluded that most significant predictor affecting the colour strength was concentration of urea followed by concentration of thickener; whereas, for ink penetration (%), the most influential predictor was concentration of thickener followed by concentration of urea and steaming time. The adequacy of predictive models was evaluated by analysis of variance, coefficient of determination (R2) and residual analysis and found to be accurate at 95 % confidence level.

MEC is considered as a promising candidate to support the deployment of the 6G communication networks, enabling scalability, adaptability and resilience. We propose a modeling approach based on complex system to design a novel organizational aspect of mobile nodes acting as MECs in a 6G scenario, through the introduction of the temporal multiplex social network, which allows us to analyse proximity contacts, by embedding also the social aspects, and the evolutionary game theory. Our findings demonstrate how the proposed model give a boost to MECs’ cooperative behavior, finding out an overall reduction of the blocking probability.
