Touches on Screen as New Signs in Blended Ways to Think Mathematically

This study demonstrates how manipulations on the screen can play an important role in students’ cognitive development. Specifically, it analyzes Brazilian high school students solving a task concerning isometry in an environment designed to improve mathematics learning with touchscreen mobile devices. The data include videotapes, written answers, icon sheets, and screen recordings. Results suggest including touches on screen as a resource in the semiotic bundle. With the advancement of mobile technologies and the increase of online courses, a contribution of this study to the blended learning literature is investigating the design of learning environments that take touchscreen in task design and other instruction processes into account.
Impact of Oil and Agricultural Shocks on the Financial Markets of Emerging Market Economies

We assess oil and agricultural price shocks in the financial markets of six EMEs (Brazil, Chile, Mexico, India, South Africa, and Turkey) using the GVAR. Positive oil price shocks provoke falls in all stock mar- kets, devaluations in four domestic currencies, and tight monetary policies in two economies. The variance decomposition indicated that this shock is more influential in the stock markets, followed by the exchange rates. Compared to the oil price, shocks in agricultural prices caused appreciations in all domestic currencies. This shock is pervasive in all exchange markets in the first months, losing importance over time. The distinct responses to different commodities shocks point out that the kind of shock is relevant to comprehend its influence on EMEs. We detected relevant heterogeneities concerning the spreading of commodities shocks on domestic financial markets, especially in South Africa.

This work studied the influence of culture medium composition and pH on exopolysaccharide (EPS) production by Pleurotus sajor-caju and validates the antitumor activity of the produced EPSs and of the mycelial biomass (intracellular polysaccharides [IPSs]) against Sarcoma 180 (S180) cells. The effect of the initial concentrations of (NH4)2SO4, yeast extract and soy peptone on EPS production by P. sajor-caju was studied in shake flasks. A bioreactor was used to evaluate the pH values and the initial CaCO3 and glucose concentrations. Extracts of EPSs (PE1) and IPSs obtained through two different separation processes (PM1 and PM2) were tested on mice inoculated with S180 cells. A medium containing 2.5, 1.0, and 1.0 g/L of (NH4)2SO4, yeast extract and soy peptone, respectively, provided the highest EPS concentration (0.6 g/L). The use of pH 4.0, 1.0 g/L CaCO3 and 20 g/L initial glucose concentration enhanced EPS productivity (3.84 g/L per hour). The PE1 extract promoted the highest reduction of S180 growth (86%), followed by the PM2 extract (80%); growth reduction was doseindependent for both substances. This work provides information about culture medium and conditions that enhanced the production of extracellular polysaccharides by P. sajor-caju. The results can contribute to the search for new bioactive products bringing novel aspects to the medical and pharmaceutical areas.
Teaching Religious Language to Nurture Spiritual Development

종교적 언어의 학습은 아동의 영적 성숙을 위해서 중요하다. 아동이 거룩함을 말하는 것이 격려되는 상황 속에서는 아동의 동료 관계, 하나님과 자연의 건강한 관계를 형성하는 역량이 강화된다. 종교교육가의 윤리적 당위성은 종교를 가르치며 삶의 경험을 긍정적으로 갱신하는 과정 속에서 확보된다. 특히, 종교교사는 언어적, 인지적, 그리고 영적 발달을 저해하는 교리적 훈육에 저항해야 하는 책무에 능동적으로 반응할 필요가 있다. 문화적 영향은 아동의 신비와 탐구, 자아발견의 계발에 긍정적인 역할을 한다. 문화적 접근을 통해서 종교교사는 아동에게 종교적 언어를 가르치고 의미-형성과 표현을 위한 도구로 활용이 가능하다. Religious language learning is crucial for children's spiritual development and how each child is encouraged to speak about the Sacred will drive the capacities for healthily connecting with one another, God, and the nonhuman world. Religious educators have an ethical imperative to teach religion with a commitment to celebrating lived experiences, while resisting dogmatic instruction that stunts linguistic, cognitive, and spiritual development. Cultural influences must encourage approaches that nurture children's wonder and inquiry, by teaching religious language as a tool for meaning-making and expression.
Integration of Subcells in III-V//Si Tandem Solar Cells

Tandem solar cells with four and two terminals fabricated with III-V on Si have achieved 35.9% conversion efficiency, which goes beyond the S-Q limit of single junction silicon solar cells. Compared to perovskite tandem solar cells, III-V//Si tandem solar cells have proven their high stability and reliability, which makes them potential candidates for commercialization in future for terrestrial applications. For the proper integration of III-V top and intermediate subcells with silicon bottom subcell, different approaches are being investigated globally. Mechanical bonding is an important approach that utilizes appropriate materials of high transmittance and conductance and hence it is being experimented globally except in the case of direct epitaxial growth of III-V materials on silicon. This review article presents a comprehensive description of diff erent approaches adopted for the integration of subcells in tandem architecture.

In this study the production of biodegradable nanofibrous structures of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) blended with the water-soluble salt trimethylchitosan (TMC) was investigated by using the electrospinning process. Different concentrations of PLA (8 and 10% w/v) and TMC (0.5, 1, and 2% w/v) were prepared and spun. The morphology, diameter and structure of PLA/TMC blended nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and contact angle measurements. Images obtained from SEM showed that the blended nanofibers display a uniform and smooth morphology without bead formation. The diameters of the fibers were affected by the presence of chitosan derivative, decreasing from 264 to 184 nm when the TMC addition was 20% (w/w). FTIR and XRD results indicate strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the molecules of PLA and chitosan derivative, with reduction in the crystallinity, thermal stability and hydrophobicity as TMC content increases in the blend.
