DEPENDENCE OF FRETTING WEAR ON AMBIENT PRESSURE
Asanome Shizu,Iwabuchi, Akira,Shimizu, Tomoharu ENGINEERING TRIBOLOGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE KYUNGPOOK 1998 INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HIGH PERFORMANCE OF TRI Vol.1998 No.-
In this paper the dependence of ambient pressure on the friction and wear of SUS304 stainless steel during fretting at room temperature was investigated. The ambient pressure was varied from 10 to 10 Pa. The experiment was carried out under the following conditions; normal loads of 0.6, 1.0 and 1.8 N, slip amplitudes of 10, 50, and 100 μm, a frequency of 10 Hz and the number of fretting cycles of 105. The friction and wear behaviors were affected by the pressure. In order to examine the formation and separation/removal of the compacted oxide layer in detail, the experiment was carried out in which ambient pressure was changed alternately from 10 Pa to 10 Pa during frettiong. From the change in coefficient of friction, it was found that the removal and formation rates of the oxide were more affected by normal load than slip amplotude, and more changeble at light load than those at higher load.
