Lipid Studies of Carum Roxburghianum Seeds

        Amran Waheed,Shahid Mahmud,Muhammad Saleem,Muhammad Yamin,Muhammad Naeem Khan 한국생약학회 2003 Natural Product Sciences Vol.9 No.3

Total lipids extracted from the powdered seeds of Carum roxburghianum were fractionated into hydrocarbons (0.30%), wax esters (0.30%), sterol seters (1.35%), triacylglycerols (72.41%), free fatty acids (6.06%),1,3-diacylglycerols (4.60%), 1,2-diacylglycerols (0.64%), glycolipids (5.10%), sterols (1.20%), 2-monoacylgylcerols ,(3.18%), 1-monoacylglycerols (1.46%), phosphatidylethanolamines (1.08%) phosphatidylchlines (0.40%), lysophosphatidylethanolamines (1.48%) and phosphatidylinositols (0.44%) with the help of TLC. The fatty acid composition ao all the lipid fractions was determined after converting them into their methy1 esters with BF_(3)-methanoll reagent and then analyzing them by GC. Oleic acid was found as a major component in all the lipid classes, whereas palmitic, linoleic and linolenic acids were present in lesser quantities. Arachidic acid was identified as a minor component in only seven out of twelve lipid classes.

Perceptions of Contraception and Patterns of Switching Contraceptive Methods Among Family-planning Acceptors in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

        Amran, Yuli,Nasir, Narila Mutia,Dachlia, Dini,Yelda, Fitra,Utomo, Budi,Ariawan, Iwan,Damayanti, Rita The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine 2019 예방의학회지 Vol.52 No.4

Objectives: The perceptions of family-planning (FP) acceptors regarding contraception influence the reasons for which they choose to switch their method of contraception. The objective of this study was to analyze the perceptions of contraception and rationales for switching contraceptive methods among female FP acceptors in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Methods: This study involved the analysis of secondary data from the Improve Contraceptive Method Mix study, which was conducted in 2013 by the Center for Health Research, University of Indonesia. The design of the study was cross-sectional. We performed 3 stages of sampling using the cluster technique and selected 4819 women who were FP acceptors in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia as the subjects of this study. The data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression. Results: The predominant pattern of switching contraceptive methods was switching from one non-long-term method of contraception to another. Only 31.0% of the acceptors reported a rational pattern of switching contraceptive methods given their age, number of children, and FP motivations. Perceptions of the side effects of contraceptive methods, the ease of contraceptive use, and the cost of the contraceptives were significantly associated (at the level of ${\alpha}=0.05$) with rational patterns of switching contraceptive methods. Conclusions: Perceptions among FP-accepting women were found to play an important role in their patterns of switching contraceptive methods. Hence, fostering a better understanding of contraception through high-quality counseling is needed to improve perceptions and thereby to encourage rational, effective, and efficient contraceptive use.

Functional Prediction of Hypothetical Proteins from Shigella flexneri and Validation of the Predicted Models by Using ROC Curve Analysis

        Md. Amran Gazi,Sultan Mahmud,Shah Mohammad Fahim,Mohammad Golam Kibria,Parag Palit,Md. Rezaul Islam,Humaira Rashid,Subhasish Das,Mustafa Mahfuz,Tahmeed Ahmeed 한국유전체학회 2018 Genomics & informatics Vol.16 No.4

Shigella spp. constitutes some of the key pathogens responsible for the global burden of diarrhoeal disease. With over 164 million reported cases per annum, shigellosis accounts for 1.1 million deaths each year. Majority of these cases occur among the children of the developing nations and the emergence of multi-drug resistance Shigella strains in clinical isolates demands the development of better/new drugs against this pathogen. The genome of Shigella flexneri was extensively analyzed and found 4,362 proteins among which the functions of 674 proteins, termed as hypothetical proteins (HPs) had not been previously elucidated. Amino acid sequences of all these 674 HPs were studied and the functions of a total of 39 HPs have been assigned with high level of confidence. Here we have utilized a combination of the latest versions of databases to assign the precise function of HPs for which no experimental information is available. These HPs were found to belong to various classes of proteins such as enzymes, binding proteins, signal transducers, lipoprotein, transporters, virulence and other proteins. Evaluation of the performance of the various computational tools conducted using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and a resoundingly high average accuracy of 93.6% were obtained. Our comprehensive analysis will help to gain greater understanding for the development of many novel potential therapeutic interventions to defeat Shigella infection.

      • Constant Pelvis Height ZMP-based Walking

        Aliza Che Amran,Fariz Ali,Atsuo Kawamura 제어로봇시스템학회 2010 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

Researchers introduced a constant center of mass walking, mainly to solve the ZMP equations analytically for center of mass trajectories in the x and y directions (case1). In this paper, case 2 proposes that if pelvis is made constant instead, energy usage could be reduced particularly at the leg joints. CoM-based kinematics methods are used to realize each case. Walking simulations of 0.22km/h are utilized for observations. In the simulation results, case 2 consumed almost 12% less in total energy consumption (electrical and mechanical) compared to case 1.

Structural performance of precast foamed concrete sandwich panel subjected to axial load

        Y. H. Mugahed Amran,Raizal S. M. Rashid,Farzad Hejazi,A. A. Abang Ali,Nor Azizi Safiee,Sani Mohammed Bida 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.4

In this paper, experimental and simple analytical studies on the structural behavior of Precast Foamed Concrete Sandwich Panel(PFCSP) were reported. Full-scale tests on six PFCSP panels varying in thickness were performed under axial load applications. Axial load-bearing capacity, load-deflection profiles, load-strain relationships, slenderness ratio, load-displacement, load-deformation,typical modes of failure and cracking patterns under constantly increasing axial loads were discussed. Nonlinear Finite ElementAnalysis (FEA) using LUSAS software to investigate the structural behavior of PFCSP was contacted. The computed ultimatestrength values using American Concrete Institute equation (ACI318) and other empirical formulas developed by perviousresearchers which applicable to predict the ultimate strength capacity of sandwich panels were compared with the experimental testresults and FEA data obtained; therefore, very conservative values resulted, a significant agreement with the FEA data that presenteda high degree of accuracy with experiments and an increase in slenderness function.

Antibacterial activity and toxicity of Halymenia durvillei red seaweed from Kayangan island, South Sulawesi, Indonesia

        Kasmiati Kasmiati,Andi Tenri Nurunnisa,Amran Amran,Muhammad Ikhwan Resya,Mufti Hatur Rahmi 한국수산과학회 2022 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.25 No.8

This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity and toxicity of methanol and hexane extracts of Halymenia durvillei red seaweed which were found abundantly in Kayangan island, South Sulawesi. The antibacterial activity of the crude extract was tested against five gram-negative bacteria, namely Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aeromonas hydrophila, and Vibrio harveyi at a dose of 200 g/disk. Extract toxicity was tested on Artemia salina larvae at concentrations of 1,000, 500, 250, 125, 62.5, and 31.25 μg/mL. The results showed that the methanol and hexane extracts of H. durvillei had the highest activity against S. thypi and A. hydrophila, respectively, with inhibition zones of 26.2 mm and 21.0 mm. On the other hand, the two extracts did not show activity against E. coli and P. aeruginosa, respectively. The toxicity of the methanol extract of H. durvillei was twice as high as that of the hexane extract with half-maximal inhibitory concentration of 98.24 and 184.21 μg/mL, respectively. Thus, the methanol and hexane extracts of red seaweed H. durvillei have the potential as new antibacterial agents respectively against the pathogenic bacteria S. typhi and A. hydrophila, but also have the opportunity to be developed into antitumor herbal compounds.
