Al-Zahrani, Majed bin Maili bin Mohammad International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.1

This study touched on the effect of the different electronic course designs on the programming skills of university students. The researcher used the experimental research design of a quasi-experimental of two experimental groups to achieve the objectives of the study. The first group underwent an electronic course designed in the holistic pattern, and the second group was taught a course in a sequential pattern. This experimental design was intended to measure the impact of these two learning modes on the learners' cognitive and performance achievement of programming skills. An achievement test and observational form were the data collection tools. Data were analyzed statistically using Pearson correlation, Mann Whitney Test, and Alpha Cronbach. The findings revealed statistically- significant differences between the mean scores of the students of the first and second experimental groups in favor of the former concerning the observational form and the latter in the cognitive test. Based on the findings, some recommendations are suggested. Due to their effectiveness in the educational process, expanding using the e-courses at universities is vital. The university teachers are highly recommended to design e-courses and provide technical and material support to the e-courses user to fulfill their design purpose.

      • Designing an Electronic Course and Its Impact on Developing University Students' Computational Thinking Skills

Al-Zahrani, Majed bin Maili bin Mohammad International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.1

The study investigated the effects of differences in some electronic course designs on university students' Computational Thinking Skills (CTS). Towards this end, the researcher adopted the experimental research design of a quasi-experimental of two experimental groups. The first group was taught an e-course designed in a sequential pattern, and the other group's course was designed according to the holistic model. A CTSs test was prepared to collect the relevant data, and the data were analyzed statistically using these tests- Pearson correlation Mann Whitney and Alpha Cronbach. Results revealed statistically-significant differences at the level α=0.05 between the mean scores of the first and second experimental groups in favor of the latter in the CTS test. The findings gave ground to put forward some salient recommendations, including the need to expand computational thinking in universities' educational process. It also recommends urging faculty members to enhance e-courses in the educational process and provide technical support to students and faculty members.

      • Influence of porosity on the hygro-thermo-mechanical bending response of an AFG ceramic-metal plates using an integral plate model

        Mohammed A. Al-Osta,Hayat Saidi,Abdelouahed Tounsi,S.U. Al-Dulaijan,M.M. Al-Zahrani,Alfarabi Sharif,Abdeldjebbar Tounsi 국제구조공학회 2021 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.28 No.4

In this project, the hygro-thermo-mechanical bending behavior of perfect and imperfect advanced functionally graded (AFG) ceramic-metal plates is analytically investigated using an integral plate model for the first time. The plate is assumed to be supported by a two-parameter elastic foundation. Because of the technical problems encountered in the manufacture of AFG, porosities and micro-voids can occur in AFG specimens, which can result in reduced density and strength of materials. Thus, due to the presence of porosity, a modified rule of mixture is adopted to predict the material properties of the AFG plates. The governing equations are deduced by adopting the "principle of virtual work" and an integral plate model. The analytical Navier's method is considered to solve the obtained differential equations for simply supported AFG porous plate. The results obtained are checked by comparing them for non-porous and porous AFG plates with those available in the open literature. Finally, this work will help us to design advanced functionally graded materials to ensure better durability and efficiency for hygro-thermal environments.

Used lubricating oil regeneration by various solvent extraction techniques

SAEED M. AL ZAHRANI,Meilana Dharma Putra 한국공업화학회 2013 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.19 No.2

The used lubricating oil regeneration using extraction technique has been widely known as one of the cheapest and most competent processes. The best performance of solvent was shown by R-11 as the lowest percent oil losses, followed by CFC-113, MEK, 1-butanol, and 2-propanol. This performance sequence could be also evaluated by method of solubility parameter difference (Es) using Hildebrand and Peng–Robinson EoS approaches. The effectiveness of extraction parameters was also studied. The percent oil losses decreased with the extraction temperature. The values of optimum ratio of solvent to oil obtained by the Es method gave reasonable results compared to the experimental method.

A four variable trigonometric integral plate theory for hygro-thermo-mechanical bending analysis of AFG ceramic-metal plates resting on a two-parameter elastic foundation

        Abdelouahed Tounsi,S.U. Al-Dulaijan,Mohammed A. Al-Osta,Abdelbaki Chikh,M.M. Al-Zahrani,Alfarabi Sharif,Abdeldjebbar Tounsi 국제구조공학회 2020 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.34 No.4

In this research, a simple four-variable trigonometric integral shear deformation model is proposed for the static behavior of advanced functionally graded (AFG) ceramic-metal plates supported by a two-parameter elastic foundation and subjected to a nonlinear hygro-thermo-mechanical load. The elastic properties, including both the thermal expansion and moisture coefficients of the plate, are also supposed to be varied within thickness direction by following a power law distribution in terms of volume fractions of the components of the material. The interest of the current theory is seen in its kinematics that use only four independent unknowns, while first-order plate theory and other higher-order plate theories require at least five unknowns. The "in-plane displacement field" of the proposed theory utilizes cosine functions in terms of thickness coordinates to calculate out-of-plane shear deformations. The vertical displacement includes flexural and shear components. The elastic foundation is introduced in mathematical modeling as a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation. The virtual displacement principle is applied to obtain the basic equations and a Navier solution technique is used to determine an analytical solution. The numerical results predicted by the proposed formulation are compared with results already published in the literature to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed theory. The influences of "moisture concentration", temperature, stiffness of foundation, shear deformation, geometric ratios and volume fraction variation on the mechanical behavior of AFG plates are examined and discussed in detail.

Synthesis, Dynamics of Solvatochromism and pH-sensory of Novel Push-π-pull Phenothiazine-quinoline Fluorophore Toward Turn-on Fluorescent and Colorimetric Test Strips

        Fatimah A. M. Al-Zahrani 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.5

Novel donor-central-π-bridge-acceptor (E)-1-ethyl-2-((10-hexyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl)methylene)-2,4a-dihydroquinolin-1-ium (PTZ-Q) fluorophore with remarkable solvatochromism, high fluorescence and pH-sensory properties was designedand synthesized in good yield. PTZ-Q sensor was fully characterized utilizing various spectroscopic techniques, includinginfrared (FTIR), 1H/13C nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectroscopic methods. UV-Vis absorption spectra of theprepared donor-acceptor PTZ-Q were explored in different solvents of varying polarities to show positive solvatochromismrelated to intramolecular charge transfer. Additionally, the fluorescence spectra of PTZ-Q displayed strongly solventdependentwavelength and band intensity. Stokes’ shifts were found to increase upon increasing the polarities of solvents upto 3984 cm-1 for the highest polar solvents. Linear energy-solvation correlation was employed to examine solvent-dependentStokes’ shift. Quantum yields (ф) of PTZ-Q were determined. The pH-dependent absorption and emission spectra indimethylformamide were also explored. The UV-Vis absorption intensity was monitored at 522 nm, while the emissionintensity was detected at 603 nm in DMF. The pH sensing mechanism was found to depend on proton abstraction to the PTZQfluorophore to result in colorimetric and fluorescent spectral changes associated with a colorimetric shift from yellow topink, red and purple. The synthesized PTZ-Q probe was utilized to fabricate colorimetric and fluorescent test strips with theability to detect pH changes in aqueous media, which was verified with CIE Lab color coordinates.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Shear Behavior of RC Beams Strengthened by Ultra-High Performance Concrete

Ashraf Awadh Bahraq,Mohammed Ali Al-Osta,Shamsad Ahmad,Mesfer Mohammad Al-Zahrani,Salah Othman Al-Dulaijan,Muhammad Kalimur Rahman 한국콘크리트학회 2019 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.13 No.1

This paper presents a study on the shear behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened by jacketing the surfaces of the beams using ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPC). The surfaces of the RC beams were prepared by sandblasting and UHPC was cast in situ over the surfaces of RC beams. The beams were strengthened using two different strengthening configurations; (i) two longitudinal sides strengthening (ii) three sides strengthening. The bond between normal concrete and UHPC was examined by conducting splitting tensile strength and slant shear strength tests on composite cylindrical specimens cast using normal concrete and UHPC. The control and strengthened beam specimens were tested using four-point loading arrangement maintaining different shear span-to-depth ratios. The results of tested beams showed the beneficial effects of strengthening the RC beams using UHPC, as evident from enhancement of the shear capacity and shifting of the failure mode from brittle to ductile with more stiff behavior. In addition, a non-linear finite element model (FEM) was developed to examine the sufficiency of the experimental results used to study the shear behavior of control and strengthened beams. The failure loads and the crack patterns determined experimentally matched well with those predicted using the proposed model with a reasonably good degree of accuracy.
