      • Wavelength switchable flat-top all-fiber comb filter based on a double-loop Mach-Zehnder interferometer

        Luo, Ai-Ping,Luo, Zhi-Chao,Xu, Wen-Cheng,Cui, Hu The Optical Society 2010 Optics express Vol.18 No.6

<P>A wavelength switchable all-fiber comb filter with flat-top spectral response based on a double-loop Mach-Zehnder (M-Z) interferometer is proposed and demonstrated. The proposed flat-top filter consists of a rotatable polarizer and a double-loop M-Z interferometer composed of two fiber couplers with a polarization controller (PC) in the first loop. In the theoretical analysis, when the second coupler of the M-Z interferometer is a non-3dB one, with proper settings of the polarization state of the input light and the PC, the wavelength switchable comb filter with flat-top passband can be obtained. Theoretical prediction was verified by experimental demonstration. The measured 1 dB bandwidth was 0.51 nm with a channel spacing of 0.98 nm, indicating that the flat-top passband of 1 dB bandwidth extends to about 50% of the comb spacing.</P>

Biocatalysis and Fermentation Technology : Secretory Expression, Functional Characterization, and Molecular Genetic Analysis of Novel Halo-Solvent-Tolerant Protease from Bacillus gibsonii

( Ai Hua Deng ),( Guo Qiang Zhang ),( Na Na Shi ),( Jie Wu ),( Fu Ping Lu ),( Ting Yi Wen ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2014 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.24 No.2

A novel protease gene from Bacillus gibsonii, aprBG, was cloned, expressed in B. subtilis, and characterized. High-level expression of aprBG was achieved in the recombinant strain when a junction was present between the promoter and the target gene. The purified recombinant enzyme exhibited similar N-terminal sequences and catalytic properties to the native enzyme, including high affinity and hydrolytic efficiency toward various substrates and a superior performance when exposed to various metal ions, surfactants, oxidants, and commercial detergents. AprBG was remarkably stable in 50% organic solvents and retained 100% activity and stability in 0-4 M NaCl, which is better than the characteristics of previously reported proteases. AprBG was most closely related to the high-alkaline proteases of the subtilisin family with a 57-68% identity. The secretion and maturation mechanism of AprBG was dependent on the enzyme activity, as analyzed by site-directed mutagenesis. Thus, when taken together, the results revealed that the halo-solvent-tolerant protease AprBG displays significant activity and stability under various extreme conditions, indicating its potential for use in many biotechnology applications.

Improvement of gastroprotective and anti-ulcer effect of kenaf seed oil-in-water nanoemulsions in rats

Ai Mun Cheong,Zu Wen Tan,Nwabueze Okechukwu Patrick,Kar Lin Nyam,Chin Ping Tan,Yang Mooi Lim 한국식품과학회 2018 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.27 No.4

Kenaf seed oil-in-water nanoemulsions (KSON) and kenaf seed oil-in-water macroemulsions were produced to access their gastroprotective effect against indomethacin- and ethanol-induced ulcers in comparison with nonemulsified kenaf seed oil (KSO). Emulsifier mixture (EM) that used to emulsify KSO was also included in the study. Ulcer index, stomach tissue oxidative status, and histopathological changes in indomethacin-induced and ethanol-induced ulcer models were both evaluated. KSON had demonstrated good gastroprotective effect against both ulcer models than non-emulsified KSO and KSOM. In addition, the gastroprotective effect of KSON was comparable to the standard drug, Omeprazole. EM also exhibited gastroprotective effect, especially in indomethacin- induced ulcers. This may be attributed to its high antioxidant activity and cytoprotective effect of sodium caseinate contained in the EM. Results supported that KSON enhanced the bioavailability of native KSO; therefore it offers gastroprotective effect for the prevention of gastric ulceration as a natural alternative to the synthetic drug.

MR Imaging of the Spine at 3.0T with T2-Weighted IDEAL Fast Recovery Fast Spin-Echo Technique

        Ai-Jun Ren,Yong Guo,Shu-Ping Tian,Li-Jing Shi,Min-Hua Huang 대한영상의학회 2012 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.13 No.1

Objective: To compare the iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and the least-squares estimation (IDEAL) method with a fat-saturated T2-weighted (T2W) fast recovery fast spin-echo (FRFSE) imaging of the spine. Materials and Methods: Images acquired at 3.0 Tesla (T) in 35 patients with different spine lesions using fat-saturated T2W FRFSE imaging were compared with T2W IDEAL FRFSE images. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)-efficiencies measurements were made in the vertebral bodies and spinal cord in the mid-sagittal plane or nearest to the mid-sagittal plane. Images were scored with the consensus of two experienced radiologists on a four-point grading scale for fat suppression and overall image quality. Statistical analysis of SNR-efficiency, fat suppression and image quality scores was performed with a paired Student’s t test and Wilcoxon’s signed rank test. Results: Signal-to-noise ratio-efficiency for both vertebral body and spinal cord was higher with T2W IDEAL FRFSE imaging (p < 0.05) than with T2W FRFSE imaging. T2W IDEAL FRFSE demonstrated superior fat suppression (p < 0.01) and image quality (p < 0.01) compared to fat-saturated T2W FRFSE. Conclusion: As compared with fat-saturated T2W FRFSE, IDEAL can provide a higher image quality, higher SNR-efficiency, and consistent, robust and uniform fat suppression. T2W IDEAL FRFSE is a promising technique for MR imaging of the spine at 3.0T. • Research on an Improved Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm and its Application

Ping Duan,Yong AI 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.9 No.4

In order to improve the global solving ability and convergence speed, avoid falling into local optimal solution, the basic ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is improved to propose an efficient and intelligent ant colony optimization (IMVPACO)algorithm. In the IMVPACO algorithm, the updating rules and adaptive adjustment strategy of pheromones are modify in order to better reflect the quality of the solution based on the increment of pheromone. The dynamic evaporation factor strategy is used to achieve the better balance between the solving efficiency and solving quality, and effectively avoid falling into local optimum for quickening the convergence speed. The movement rules of the ants are modify to make it adaptable for large-scale problem solving, optimize the path and improve search efficiency. A boundary symmetric mutation strategy is used to obtain the symmetric mutation for iteration results, which not only strengthens the mutation efficiency, but also improves the mutation quality. Finally, the proposed IMVPACO algorithm is applied in solving the traveling salesman problem. The simulation experiments show that the proposed IMVPACO algorithm can obtain very good results in finding optimal solution. And It takes on better global search ability and convergence performance than other traditional methods.

      • Clinicopathologic Characteristics and Prognostic Factors in Patients with Operable HER-2 Overexpressing Breast Cancer

        Liu, Ai-Na,Sun, Ping,Liu, Jian-Nan,Ma, Jin-Bo,Qu, Hua-Jun,Zhu, Hua,Yu, Cai-Yan,Zhang, Liang-Ming Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

Objective: To study the relationship between clinical pathologic characteristics, treatment modalities and prognostic factors in HER-2 (Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor-2) overexpressed breast carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Major clinico-pathological factors including therapeutic modalities and survival status of 371 breast cancer patients with HER2 over-expression, teated at Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital from March of 2002 to December of 2010 were retrospectively studied, with special attention focused on survival-related factors. Results: The median age of the total 371 patients in this study was 48 years at time of diagnosis, among which, the leading pathological type was infiltrating ductal carcinoma (92.5%); 62.8% presented with a primary tomor larger than 2 cm in diameter at diagnosis, 51.0% had axillary lymph node (ALN) metastases; ER (Estrogen receptor)/PR (Progesterone receptor) double negative occured in 52.8% of cases, and PCNA (proliferation cell nuclear antigen) (+++) was found in 55.1%. HER-2 overexpressed patients were usually in advanced stage when the diagnosis was made (72.8% at stages IIA~IIIC). The prognosis and survival were assessed in 259 patients with complete follow-up data. 5-year DFS (disease-free survival) and OS (overall survival) rate was 68.0% and 78.0% respectively. Univariate analysis revealed that age, tumor size, ALN metastases, LVSI (lymph-vascular space involvement), PCNA status, hormonal therapy, chemotherapy cycles, and HER-2 overexpression, correlated closely with the prognosis. ALN metastases, LVSI, PCNA status and chemotherapy cycles were independent predictors of survival. Conclusions: HER-2 overexpressed breast cancer has special clinical and pathological characteristics, with advanced clinical stages and high rate of ER/PR double negative. Lymph node metastases, LVSI, PCNA and chemotherapy cycles are independent predictors of prognosis.

        Gong, Ping,Huang, Xin-En,Chen, Chuan-Ying,Liu, Jian-Hong,Meng, Ai-Feng,Feng, Ji-Feng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

Objective: To compare the complications of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) by a modified Seldinger technique under ultrasound guidance or the conventional (peel-away cannula) technique. Methods: From February to December of 2010, cancer patients who received PICC at the Department of Chemotherapy in Jiangsu Cancer Hospital were recruited into this study, and designated UPICC if their PICC lines were inserted under ultrasound guidance, otherwise CPICC if were performed by peel-away cannula technique. The rates of successful placement, hemorrhage around the insertion area, phlebitis, comfort of the insertion arm, infection and thrombus related to catheterization were analyzed and compared on days 1, 5 and 6 after PICC and thereafter. Results: A total of 180 cancer patients were recruited, 90 in each group. The rates of successful catheter placement between two groups differed with statistical significance (P <0.05), favoring UPICC. More phlebitis and finger swelling were detected in the CPICC group (P <0.05). From day 6 to the date the catheter was removed and thereafter, more venous thrombosis and a higher rate of discomfort of insertion arms were also observed in the CPICC group. Conclusion: Compared with CPICC, UPICC could improve the rate of successful insertion, reduce catheter related complications and increase comfort of the involved arm, thus deserving to be further investigated in randomized clinical studies.

Influence of the Incorporation of Aluminum on the Optical Properties of MCM-41

        Ya-Ping Hsieh,Yang-Fang Chen,Ai-Qin Wang,Chi-Te Liang,Chung-Yuan Mou,Ji-Wei Chen 한국물리학회 2007 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.50 No.6

Different ratios of aluminum were incorporated into MCM-41. PL measurements revealed a blue shift and an enhancement in intensity by 2 orders of magnitude as the Si : Al ratio was decreased to 14. By comparing the PL and the photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra of aluminosilicate MCM-41 to silica MCM-41 and to published reports on similar materials, we are able to identify the origin of the photoluminescence enhancement.
