Three novel phosphorescent 2-phenylpyridine-based iridium(III) complexes, [(ppy)2Ir(P^N)]PF6 (1), [(dfppy)2Ir(P^N)] PF6 (2), and [(dfmppy)2 Ir(P^N)]PF6 (3), where P^N = 2-[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]pyridine (dppmp), were synthesized and characterized. The absorption, photoluminescence, cyclic voltammetry and thermal stability of the complexes were investigated. The complexes showed bright blue luminescences at wavelengths of 448 ~ 500 nm at room temperature in CHCl3 and revealed that the π-acceptor ability of the phosphorous atom in the ancillary dppmp ligand plays an important role in tuning emission color resulting in a blue-shift emission. The single crystal structure of [(dfmppy)2 Ir(P^N)]PF6 was determined using X-ray crystallography. The iridium metal center adopts a distorted octahedral structure coordinated to two dfmppy and one dppmp ligand, showing cis C-C and trans N-N chelate dispositions. There is a π-π overlap between π electrons delocalized in the difluorophenyl rings.

Three novel phosphorescent 2-phenylpyridine-based iridium(III) complexes, $[(ppy)_2Ir(P\^{}N)]PF6\;(1),\;[(dfppy)_2Ir(P\^{}N)]PF_6$ (2), and $[(dfmppy)_2 Ir(P\^{}N)]PF6$ (3), where $P\^{}N$ = 2-[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]pyridine (dppmp), were synthesized and characterized. The absorption, photoluminescence, cyclic voltammetry and thermal stability of the complexes were investigated. The complexes showed bright blue luminescences at wavelengths of 448 $\sim$ 500 nm at room temperature in $CHCl_3$ and revealed that the $\pi$-acceptor ability of the phosphorous atom in the ancillary dppmp ligand plays an important role in tuning emission color resulting in a blue-shift emission. The single crystal structure of $[(dfmppy))_2Ir(P\^N)]PF_6$ was determined using X-ray crystallography. The iridium metal center adopts a distorted octahedral structure coordinated to two dfmppy and one dppmp ligand, showing cis C-C and trans N-N chelate dispositions. There is a $\pi-\pi$ overlap between π electrons delocalized in the difluorophenyl rings.

Objective: To compare the complications of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) by a modified Seldinger technique under ultrasound guidance or the conventional (peel-away cannula) technique. Methods: From February to December of 2010, cancer patients who received PICC at the Department of Chemotherapy in Jiangsu Cancer Hospital were recruited into this study, and designated UPICC if their PICC lines were inserted under ultrasound guidance, otherwise CPICC if were performed by peel-away cannula technique. The rates of successful placement, hemorrhage around the insertion area, phlebitis, comfort of the insertion arm, infection and thrombus related to catheterization were analyzed and compared on days 1, 5 and 6 after PICC and thereafter. Results: A total of 180 cancer patients were recruited, 90 in each group. The rates of successful catheter placement between two groups differed with statistical significance (P <0.05), favoring UPICC. More phlebitis and finger swelling were detected in the CPICC group (P <0.05). From day 6 to the date the catheter was removed and thereafter, more venous thrombosis and a higher rate of discomfort of insertion arms were also observed in the CPICC group. Conclusion: Compared with CPICC, UPICC could improve the rate of successful insertion, reduce catheter related complications and increase comfort of the involved arm, thus deserving to be further investigated in randomized clinical studies.

In this article, a series of coumarin derivativefluorescent probes have been synthesized, which can realizesimple, rapid and sensitive detection of Pd2+. We tested thefluorescence properties of threefluorescentprobes, (E)-N0-(((4-chloropyridin-2-yl) methylene)-7-(diethylamino)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carbohy(CMDCC) has the betterfluorescence properties and anti-interference ability. Then, CMDCC as thefluorescence probe for detection of Pd2+ was systematic studied. Under optimized conditions, this probehas a wide pH range, a lower detection limit (4.4510 8 mol L-1), and a faster response speed (3 min). Inthe Pd2+ concentration range of 0.1 5 mmol L-1, thefluorescence intensity of this probe and concentrationof Pd2+ show a good linear response. In this work, Pd2+ content in organic waste liquid was successfullydetected and a standard addition test was also performed. The satisfactory recovery rate was obtained. Moreover, it can be observed with naked eyes that the palladium ion changes the solution color of CMDCCfrom green to red. This color change can easily be compared with other metal salts. It indicates thatCMDCC can also detect Pd2+ by colorimetric method. Therefore, CMDCC should be used to rapidly, conveniently detect Pd2+ in environmental samples.

Ti2AlC/TiAl in situ composites were fabricated via a reaction Hot-Pressing Process using Ti3AlC2, Ti, and Alpowders as initial materials. The effect of Ti2AlC content on the phases and microstructure of the as-sinteredcomposites was investigated by XRD and SEM. The mechanical properties such as Vickers hardness, flexuralstrength and fracture toughness of the as-sintered composites were also tested. The products consisted ofTi2AlC, γ-TiAl and α2-Ti3Al as the major phases. Ti2AlC reinforcements were mainly distributed in the grainboundaries, resulting in obvious γ+α2 grain refinement. With increasing Ti3AlC2 content (up to 5 wt%), theVickers hardness, flexural strength and fracture toughness of the as-sintered composite reached the maximumvalues of 3.7 GPa, 651.5 MPa, and 10.89 MPa·m1/2, respectively. Analysis of fracture surface and crackpropagation paths indicated that crack deflection and crack bridging of the in situ precipitated Ti2AlC phasesobtained by decomposing Ti3AlC2 were the main reasons for the observed composite toughening.

Butein, a natural chalcone, has anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective activity. One synthetic derivative of butein, 2',4',6'-tris(methoxymethoxy)chalcone (TMMC), has potent anti-inflammatory activity via an HO-1 (heme oxygenase 1) dependent pathway. The ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ ketone moiety in both TMMC and chalcones could be important in mediating this effect. To investigate the structural requirements of TMMC derivatives for anti-inflammatory effects, we modified the ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ ketone moiety through catalytic hydrogenation, hydride reduction, or introduction of a triple bond. In addition, we performed structural modifications such as converting the -OMOM group to an -OMe or -OH group. Generally, modifications in the a,_-unsaturated ketone caused a significant decrease or loss of anti-inflammatory activity, which is consistent with the role of the a,_-unsaturated ketone group acting as a Michael acceptor of nucleophilic species like glutathione or cysteine residues on proteins. Chemically, the electron-donating substituents could make the thiol-adduct more stable by decreasing the acidity of the ${\alpha}-hydrogen$ and slowing the speed of the retro-Michael reaction. Also, like previous studies, the 2'-hydroxy group was crucial in increasing the anti-inflammatory effect. The 2'-hydroxy group produced potent anti-inflammatory effects by increasing the electrophilic properties of ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ ketones due to hydrogen bonding between the 2'-hydroxy group and the ketone moiety.
