Regional economic growth in Mexican manufacturing after trade liberalization in 1984-1985, and in particular under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), signed in 1994, has been characterized by a faster growth in employment and output in the Northern Border region. In this article, these regional dynamics are analyzed and related to productivity, that is output per worker growth, in that region and compared to others regions in the country from 1970 to 2004. This study concludes that there is not a clear association between TLCAN and greater economic growth in the Northern Border region.
A rare case of choledochal cyst with pancreas divisum
Adrian Ransom-Rodriguez,Ruben Blachman-Braun,Emilio Sanchez-Garcia Ramos,Jesus Varela-Prieto,Erick Rosas-Lezama,Miguel Angel Mercado 한국간담췌외과학회 2017 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.21 No.1
Choledochal cysts are rare congenital malformations of the bile duct characterized by dilatations of the intrahepatic and/or extrahepatic portion of the biliary tree, they are associated to an anomalous arrangement of the pancreaticobiliary duct. Pancreas divisum results from a fusion failure of the pancreatic buds. The coexistence of pancreas divisum and choledochal cyst in adults has been reported in less than 10 well documented cases. This article presents a case of a 42-year-old Peruvian man with intermittent episodes of abdominal pain, initially diagnosed with choledocholithiasis, who underwent open cholecystectomy. During surgery, a diagnosis of choledochal cyst and pancreas divisum was made, and therefore a hepaticoduodenostomy was performed. The patient was referred to our hospital due to persistence of abdominal pain. After admission, a papillectomy was achieved without further complications. A cyst resection and dismantling of hepaticoduodenostomy with Roux-en-Y was performed 8 years later. During the subsequent 18-month follow-up, the patient remains asymptomatic.
From Arithmetic to Algebra: Smoothing the Transition
( Adrian A Rivera ) 한국수학교육학회 2013 수학교육 학술지 Vol.2013 No.2
Education in Arithmetic and Geometry is strong because those topics are considered "second nature", so they are easily associated to real-life problems and the intuition behind their properties is easier to teach. Education in Algebra suffers because it lacks that, so the idea of this presentation is to turn it into "second nature" as well. By combining arithmetic and geometry with topics such as proportionality and the basics of modeling, it will not only improve problem-solving skills among students, but will lead to a better education in Algebra and the many topics that depend on it.

Large wind energy systems use pitch control not only to regulate the power in the case of overrated wind speed but also for load alleviation. The reduction of blade loads is based on the so-called individual pitch control (IPC), which is a complicated configuration that includes either a Coleman or a Clarke transformation. As a result, the IPC provides good performance for its design objective, namely load reduction, but its dynamic properties are poorly known and difficult to study. The consequence is that sometimes the control system presents unexpected behaviors and difficulties in getting the controller tuned. The present contribution reformulates the IPC approaches as transfer matrices such that they are better understood from a systemic point of view, several unknown properties are derived, and some theoretic limitations are established. In particular, proportional-resonant controllers, which are normally hidden, play an important role in the dynamics. These outcomes can help to simplify the controller design as well as the parameter setting.
