The objective of this study is to develop a rule-based fault detection algorithm and an experimental verification using an artificial air handling unit. To develop an analytical algorithm which precisely detects a tendency of faulty component, energy equations at each control volume of AHU were applied. An experimental verification was conducted on the HVAC simulator. The rule based FDD algorithm isolated a faulted sensor from HVAC components in summer and winter conditions.

The proper use of the passive and active design elements are important for the realization of green buildings. The G-SEED (Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design) has been implemented in Korea to promote green building construction reflecting these design elements. In this paper, evaluation items of G-SEED which related to the passive design were selected. And improvement direction for the G-SEED was proposed through the analysis of the application status of the passive design elements for the G-SEED certified buildings. This results can be used for developing study on the future improvement of the assessment criteria of G-SEED.

The G-SEED encourages the installation of new and renewable energy facilities through assessments of the new and renewable energy installation rates. The government also regulates the installation rate of new and renewable energy facilities in the ‘Project on new and renewable energy obligation in public installations’. The current criteria concerning the new and renewable energy facilities in the G-SEED are the result of an amendment made in July 2010. As over five years have passed since this amendment, the assessment criteria needs to be reenforced. To improve the current criteria, the calculation results of the installation rate of new and renewable energy facilities in the G-SEED were analyzed and compared to the corresponding calculation results of the ‘Project on new and renewable energy obligation in public installations’. And an improved draft for the assessment criteria of the new and renewable energy facilities in the G-SEED was proposed.

A various building certification systems are being enforced in Korea. However, the enforcement of many building certification systems has brought on the concerned people's confusion and the operation of various building certification systems which have similar assesment items causes much time and economical losses. Therefore, in this paper, the features of the GBCS(Green Building Certification System), Housing Performance Indication System, Building Energy Rating System, and Green Home Standard and Performance Evaluation System are compared and the correlations among each building certification system are analysed. As a result, it is presented that a considerable number of assessment items were so similar and identical that integration of building certification systems is needed for effective operation of these systems.

The Green Building Certification Criteria (GBCC) which is used to evaluate the energy and environmental performance of buildings was revised and enforced on July 1, 2010. Concerns about the Green Building Certification System (GBCS) are sharply increasing due to the 'Low Carbon and Green Growth' declared by President Myung Bak Lee, and especially because all public buildings equal to or larger than 10,000㎡ are obligated to obtain the Certification. The objective of this study is to check the reliability of weighting factors and scoring difficulties in all assessment items of the new version of GBCC on the basis of the case study results by the new GBCC even though more researches are needed. In this paper, the old and new versions of GBCC were reviewed and the difficulties in obtaining the certification by the new version were analyzed through case studies. The results showed that the subject buildings obtained lower scores in almost all assesment items because of the upgraded criteria and weighting factors.

The number of buildings certified by GBCS(Green Building Certification System) has increased, especially in school facilities recently. It seems to be resulted from growing interest in 'Low Carbon and Green Growth'. But new version of the GBCS is urgently needed because the initial GBCS has been used too long time without any fundamental update. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the improved GBCC(Green Building Certification Criteria). For this, the enforcement background and developing process of GBCS were reviewed and a spot survey was conducted to find out the poor maintenance of adopted technologies and the problems in applying the GBCC for the certified school facilities operated for longer than 1 year. The new version of GBCS including GBCC based on the result of this study is hopefully turned up to be enforced soon, resulting in marking conspicuous distinctions between certified school and ordinary school.
