Post-traumatic fat embolism was first reported by Zenker in 1862, Von Bergmann reported the first clinical diagnosis of the fat embolism syndrome in 1873. Fat embolism has been associated with traumatic or non-traumatic disorders. Fat embolization after long bone trauma is probably common as a subclinical event. The diagnosis of fat embolism syndrome is based on the patient's history, is supported by clinical signs of pulmonary, cerebral, and cutaneous dysfunction, and is confirmed by the demonstration of arterial hypoxemia in the abscence of other disorders. Two different mechanisms cause fat to embolize: direct entry of deposit fat into the blood stream and agglutination of endogenous or exogenous plasma fat. MRI can detect a cerebral fat embolism with a higher sensitivity than cerebral CT. We report a case of post-traumatic cerebral fat embolism without pulmonary involvement, and we present a review of the literature. A 16-year girl had a traffic accident and pelvic bone fracture. Forty eight hours later severe trauma become stuporous without a focal neurological deficit. The patient received supportive therapy, and her condition improved throughout her hospital course. She was discharged with good condition after a 30-day hospital stay.

This study was performed as the first part of three-year systematic research to propose efficient and useful programs and policies to enhance the quality of life in Korean married women. In survey 1, we had 180 married women aged from twenties to fifties report freely a variety of things that make their life both meaningful and meaningless to find important areas that can enhance or impede quality of life in Korean women. The responses from married women varied with their ages. Many women in twenties reported leasure, husband, and their own work as things that make their life meaningful. On the other hand, women in ages more than thirties reported children and husband more and their own work less as meaningful things in their life. In reported results of meaningless things from married women, the more ages the more reported blame for their children, and the less ages the more reported blame for the limitation of their own ability. In survey 2 to obtain the perceived importance in many areas that can influence the lives of Korean married women, 120 married women from twenties to fifties rated its importance on twenty-eight items including husband's success, their achievement, and leasure. Generally family health, harmonious home, positive regard from husband, success of husband and children, and being beloved by husband were rated very important in all age groups. the more ages the more rated importance of success of husband and children, and the less ages the more importance of leasure and their own achievement. Based on the results of survey 1 and 2, we constructed a preliminary scale consisted of 140 items assumed to measure the quality of life in Korean married women. To select items to include in main scale, 568 married women responded questionnaire that consists of 140 preliminary items and items for scale validity. 78 items were selected to construct a scale for quality of Korean women's life based on factor analysis of 140 items. The score from 78 items(score of quality of life) has significant positive correlation with life satisfaction, and significant negative correlation with Beck's depression score, anxiety, and physical illness.
