This paper argues against the mainstream scholarly view that questions translatabiliy and the value of teaching Korean idioms. This study makes a counter claim by saying that such skepticism does not hold much validity, especially when the Korean linguistic terms for idioms have not been officially integrated. Thus, this paper urges the need for the scholars to make a clear recognition of Korean idioms as a set of challenging linguistic aspects which foreign learners have to acquire; this is especially true for the students of interpretation and translation. Thus, a certain pedagogical tool has to be developed to effectively teach Korean idioms since they are intensely culture-specific. Particularly for the purpose of translation study for Chinese students, this paper devises and presents a taxonomy by making classifications of Korean idioms with matching Chinese idioms.

The generation of modern Chinese characters does not originate from the native language’s natural development, but originates from the external new concept’s introduction. The generation, acceptance and the process of change of the new words in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages reflect the difference of them to accept the western civilization and also reflect these three countries’ modernization. Based on this, it is of great importance to study the exchange of vocabulary between Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Currently, the research regarding Korean Japanese communication in Korea and the research regarding Chinese Japanese communication in China have been fruitful. However, the research regarding Chinese Korean communication have been barren in recent years. As the foundation for the research on Chinese Korean communication, this paper chose the mutual recognized 20 words as research target. the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and Modern Korean Bilingual Dictionary as research resources. This paper examined the 20 words in both morphology and semantics to illustrate the relationship between the loan Japanese words, it also recognized some problems occurred in the research process of the new Chinese words.
