정신분석적 문학비평 - 비판적 거리두기를 통한 성찰과 상호텍스트 창조

  As disciplines devoted to critically analyzing the given narratives and deriving creative insights from such activities, literature and psychoanalysis both pay attention to the particular ways in which the subject, through the medium of personalized narrative, interprets his or her experiences to make sense of them. The textual, unconscious aspect of narratives, which resists any attempt to pin them down to determined sets of predictable or desired meanings, hints at the possibility of reaching beyond the prescribed symbolic signifying system or the dominant paradigm of thought, and forging an alternative perspective and subject position.<BR>  The recent shift of focus in psychoanalytic researches, from drive regulation, knowledge, and adaptation, to the capability to generate meanings and experiences that feel authentic and real, has far-reaching implications for literary studies. For instance, D. W. Winnicott"s concept of "play," comparable to Jacques Derrida"s "diff?rance," as well as Jacques Lacan"s seminal concept of "traversing the fantasy," emphasizes the importance of exploring and transgressing the limit of any socially constructed reality, and actively (re)constructing meanings on the subject"s own terms in a new context. Thus, approaching literary texts and interpretation as a means of dialecticizing the signifying process can function as a vial means through which the subject generates a subjectified, meaningful narrative by establishing a critical distance from, and making a difference within, the already existing networks of signification. Moreover, by prying open and tapping into the gap or fissure of the socially imposed and sanctioned discourse, studies of literature offer a chance of reexamining the basic configurative relationship between the self and others in order to build an intertext founded upon more dialectic interpersonal narratives.

사회화된 환상과 욕망으로서의 성과 젠더의 문제

생물학적 ‘성’과 구분하여 이와 다른 사회 심리적 차원에서 인간의 성차이, 성정체성, 남성성과 여성성 등의 문제를 고찰하기 위해 처음 사용된 후, ‘젠더’라는 개념은 사회학, 여성학, 심리학, 의학, 정신 병리학 등의 영역에서 많은 논의와 연구의 대상이 되어왔고, 그 개념상의 정의와 용어사용 면에 있어서도 또한 많은 변천을 거듭해 왔다. 그리하여 줄리엣 미첼(Juliet Mitchell)에 따르면, 초기의 성과 젠더라는 이분법적 구분이 다분히 인위적이며, 도식적인 개념적 한계를 지녔던 반면, 최근 젠더라는 용어는 점차 생물학적 인 차원과 사회적 차원을 모두 아우르며, 마치 ‘인종’과 같이 인간간의 차이를 대표한 포괄적 개념의 하나로 인간의 성을 여러 각도에서 조명하는데 널리 사용되고 있다(69). 그러나 한편에서는 후기구조주의나 젠더 수행성을 강조하는 버틀러와 같은 페미니즘계의 이론가들에 의해 다분히 강조되는 성을 구성주의적 개념이 지나치게 언어학이나 문화적 측면에 치우쳐서 인간의 성을 강조한 나머지 인간의 섹슈얼리티나 성구분과 성적 주체 형성에 연루되는 다양하고 복잡한 심리적 기제를 등한시한다는 비판도 일고 있다(Mitchell68). 따라서 본고는 정신분석, 특히 그중에서도 라깡의 성과 성 차이에 대한 담론과 라깡 이론을 더 한층 발전시킨 라깡주의 정신 분석가들의 연구를 원용하여, 사회화된 환상과 욕망이라는 연구에 초점을 두어 성과 젠더의 문제를 주체와 타자간의 역동적 관계의 역학을 관점에서 고찰함으로써 인간의 성적 주체화가 내포하는 의미, 기능, 한계를 탐구할 것이다. 이를 위해 우선 먼저 오이디푸스 단계를 통한 인간의 성적 주체화 과정을 살펴봄으로써 어떻게 주체와 타자간의 역동적 관계의 역학과 더불어 사회적 상징의 이해와 해석이 남성과 여성이라는 성구분과 정체성의 확립으로 이어지는지 고찰할 것이다. 즉 구조화되지 않는 충동이 남성과 여성의 성과 성 정체감이라는 심인적인 구조의 확립과 그 구조상의 차이로 조직화되는 과정은 타자의 욕망에 직면한 주체가 각기 다른 식으로 타자의 욕망에 반응하고 향유하는 존재의 방식을 낳는다는 점에서 중요하다. 이러한 과정을 단계적으로 고찰한 과정은 성차이란 실재와 우리 사회에서 용인되는 방식으로서의 성 아이의 젠더적인 수행 사이에는 메울 수 없는 간극과 불일치가 존재함을 극명하게 드러내 줄 것이다. 그러므로 주체를 구성하는 사회화된 환상과 욕망으로서의 성과 젠더의 문제에 대한 본 정신분석적 연구는 이러한 사회적 상징질서와 언어내의 결여를 은폐하는 환상의 음험한 작용과 매력을 규명하고, 성관계에서 어떻게 사회․상징적 현실이 음밀하고 개인적인 심리적 현실로 변환되며 마치 뫼비우스의 띠에서처럼 분리할 수 없이 하나가 되어 결국 주체를 대타자의 욕망에 예속되게 하는가를 조사할 것이다. 그런 의미에서 이 연구의 과정은 한편으로는 곧 “성관계는 존재하지 않는다.”라는 리깡의 수수깨끼 같은 진술을 이해해가는 과정이 될 것이다. This paper explores the process and implications of sexuation and achieving gender identity from a psychoanalytic perspective, particularly by viewing them as a way of assimilating socialized fantasies and desire. Sexual difference as such is a Lacanian real that is beyond the grasp of any symbolic representation or explication. The discourse on sexual difference, gender roles or gender identity is a way of coping with the real and organizing the desire and jouissance of the subject on the basis of the phallic logic, which compels the subject to accept the symbolic castration and disguise or fill in the primordial lack in being by objectifying others. Socialized fantasies and desire, as an artifact produced to provide a definitive answer to an enigmatic question that should remain open-ended, play a key role in this process of sexuation where the subject is interpellated by and inscribed in a system of the socially codified sexual differences and gender-specific roles or expectations. As Lacan's diagram of sexuation illustrates, gender identity thus "achieved" via different ways of positioning oneself in relation to the phallic signifier entails the impossibility of the sexual relation. Recognizing the lack in the Other of the social symbolic that dictates this constrictive and coercive process of sexuation paves way for the possibility of what jacques Lacan calls the traversing of fantasy and moving beyond the deadlock of non-relation between sexes.

A Psychoanalytic Reading of the Racial Politics in Beloved : Toward the Reconstruction of the Self through “Rememory”

This paper examines the issues of racial oppression and self-recovery in Toni Morrison’s Beloved from a psycho-social perspective and explores the critical implications of Morrison’s use of narrative “rememory” as a way for African-Americans to reclaim and repossess their traumatic collective history. For the characters of the novel, rememory means critically revisiting their traumatic past and recreating their selves as the agents of their lives by recovering from the residual effects of slavery. The Reconstruction era as the setting of the novel also foregrounds the necessity for African-American former slaves to restitute their selfhood by establishing a critical distance from their past and freeing themselves from the psychic oppression and wounds caused by racism. Each character’s encounter with Beloved symptomatically testifies to the still lingering detrimental effects of slavery and the oppressive racial politics that continue to cause everyone to live defensively. Drawing on various psychoanalytic theories such as D. W. Winnicott’s object relations theory and Heinz Kohut’s self psychology, as well as Jacques Lacan’s and Frantz Fanon’s views on self-alienation, this paper investigates the specific ways in which the racial politics of a white supremacist society operates and controls its subaltern subjects with its oppressive master narrative. This paper thus highlights that Beloved as a narrative rememory serves both oppositional and liberatory functions by exposing and countering the insidiously debilitating politics of race and by clearing a space for the self-recovery and self-restitution of the victims of traumatogenic injustice.

『드넓은 싸가쏘 바다』의 다층적 외상과 왜곡된 대상관계: 탈식민주의적 서사에 대한 정신분석적 글읽기

This paper aims to explore the psycho-political implications of multiple, intergenerationally transmitted traumas portrayed in Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea(WSS). As the novel depicts the process in which Antoinette, a white Creole in the West Indies, is victimized by her English husband Rochester, it also foregrounds a striking similarity between Antoinette and her mother Annette. That the mother and the colonized motherland remain always “Other,” in the sense of being inaccessible, marginalized, and even debased, is one of the root causes of the multiple traumas in WSS. Antoinette’s and Annette’s predicaments illustrate the particularly pernicious type of trauma that compels subaltern subjects to live in a prolonged state of helplessness and terror. Another type of repetitive trauma, early deprivations and losses in childhood, brings Antoinette and Rochester together in their search for self- validating security in marriage, which only locks them in an abusive relationship. 육백만이라는 엄청난 숫자의 무고한 희생자를 초래하여 아직도 치유될 수 없는 역사의 상처로 남아있는 이차 대전 중의 나찌에 의한 유대인 학살은, 굴곡된 자기중심적 이데올로기가 타자에게 가하는 조직화된 폭력의 전형적 사례이다. 홀로코스트 문학은 개인과 사회 그리고 양자 간의 관계를 지탱해주는 근본적 사회ㆍ심리적 근간을 파괴하여 강압된 탈사회화와 탈주체화 속에서 철저히 개인을 고립시키는 외상적 경험으로서의 홀로코스트에 대한 재현과 애도의 시도이다. 대규모의 살상과 이로 인해 극복할 수 없이 참담하게 유린된 개인과 공동제의 삶을 다룬 문학작품에서 빈번히 등장하는 침묵의 모티프 축소왜곡된 시간관, 그리고 외상의 증상과 인식의 신체ㆍ감각으로의 전환현상이 증좌하듯, 홀로코스트에 대한 증언과 문학작품에서 주체는 극한 상황에서의 생존을 위해 사용했던 과거의 자기방어의 전략들과 영속되는 현재로서의 과거에 의해 구속된 유형의 삶을 강박적으로 되풀이한다. 다스릴 수 없을 만큼의 강력한 파괴적 힘으로 현재를 강점하는 과거와 그에 대한 외상적 기억으로부터 비판적 거리를 확보ㆍ유지하기 위하여 애도와 서사의 작업은 통합/통화와 분해/분리의 작용을 통하여, 불시에 엄습하며 주체를 장악하는 어두운 과거기억과 주체와의 즉각적 연상의 결합에 의식적으로 개입하고 외상 경험의 치명성을 다스림으로써 전체 삶의 한 부분으로 과거를 인정 통합하는데 기여한다. 이러한 외상경험에 대한 서사적 치유를 통한 점진적 애도의 과정이 결코 순탄할 수 없는 이유는 재현 가능성에 대한 불식할 수 없는 회의와 역사적 사건으로 서의 홀로코스트 경험 자체의 독특성과 무관하지 않다. 그러나 홀로코스트를 그 어느 누구도 쉽게 근접할 수 없고 재현할 수 없는 독보적 역사적 경험 내지 초월적 대상으로 승격하여 ‘물신화’하거나 또는 홀로코스트의 고유한 역사성을 무시한채 이를 단지 철학적 혹은 미학적 사유의 대상이나 범주로 취급하는 일부 문화와 비평담론의 경향은 타인의 엄청난 희생과 고통을 담보로 한 또 다른 이데올로기적 폭력이나 합리화로 경도될 위험이 있으므로 지양극복되어야 한다. 즉 효과적인 서사적 치유를 위해서는 외상적 과거에 대한 결코 쉽지는 않지만 반드시 수행되어야할 적절한 애도의 기조적 태도가 수반ㆍ견지되어야 한다.

Trauma, the Marginal Self, and the Politics of Mourning

본고는 정치적, 사회 분석적 틀로서 정신적 외상경험이 갖는 함의를 고찰하기 위해, 지금까지 흔히 일시적 충격이나 극심한 고통만을 의미해왔던 단발성 위주의 외상의 개념정의에서 탈피하여, 이를 지속적 억압과 소외가 초래하는 존재론적, 정신적 폐해를 포함하는 좀 더 폭넓은 관점에서 조명해보고, 외상연구가 내포하는 자아와 타자간의 새로운 관계설정이라는 윤리적 함의를 타진해보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 외상에 관한 프로이드의 저작이나 그 이후의 여러 연구가 공통적으로 시사하는 바는 외상적 경험으로 인한 자아 및 사회적 상징적 질서의 파열이며, 특히 소외된 계층에 대한 최근의 외상연구는 이러한 파열된 상징질서의 간극과 균열을 통해 드러나는, 무수한 타자들의 희생에 의해 옹립, 유지되는 기존 사회의 억압적 구조를 비판한다. 기존 상징질서가 양산해내는 소외 계층의 외상적 자아는 크리스테바가 “abjection”의 개념으로 설명하듯 지배 계층이 억압적 담론으로 구조화해낸 왜곡된 그들 자신 이미지의 투사체일 뿐이다. 그리고 이를 영속화하여 외상적 주체가 주변적 자아로서 고착되도록 하며 또한 사회질서 유지와 보존을 위해 끊임없이 이들의 종속과 고통을 다스리고 승화하며 구조화하는 것이 지배담론의 자기중심적 “애도”의 정치학이다. 외상적 경험을 특징짓는 반복과 상징적 서술행위의 부재는 상징 질서로부터의 주변적 자아의 소외와 그에 의한 대상화를 역설적으로 나타내주는 증후이며, 이에 대한 사회 및 정신분석적 연구과 담론화 작업은 타인의 소외와 억압에 기초한 지배적 상징질서를 비판, 전복할 수 있는 가능성을 시사한다. 그러나 외상적 경험에 대한 극복을 위한 과거에 대한 비판적 반추와 재현 행위는 단순한 강박적 반복과 달리, 음험하게 반복되어 나타나는 억압의 증후를 서술, 담론화 하고, 그리함으로써 외상적 경험과 기억에서 결여되었던 사회성과 타자와의 결속이라는 차원을 부과한다. 동시에, 외상적 경험에 대한 서술화 작업은 억압적 과거로부터의 비판적 거리를 확보함과 더불어, 단지 소외된 타자로서 존재했던 외상적 경험의 자아로 하여금 자신을 경험적 주체로 인식할 수 있는 계기를 제공한다. 그리고 타자의 억압과 그로 인한 외상적 경험에 대한 의식적 재현을 다루는 외상연구는 타자를 자신의 인식론적 틀로 수렴하지 않고 그들 간의 환원할 수 없는 이질성에 대한 인식을 바탕으로 한 상호 공감과 소통 방식의 가능성을 모색, 타진함으로써 타자와 자아간의 새로운 윤리적 관계 설정에 기여한다.

NGS 데이터를 기반으로 한 PGPR의 기능에 대한 분자생물학적 접근

There are numerous nutrients, including essential elements, in the soil. Nevertheless, most of the nutrients that exist in the soil are not suitable for the growth of plants. Therefore, in agriculture, chemical fertilizers have been widely used for the increasing of crop production from long time ago. As a result, soil nutrient has been over accumulated, environment was polluted and pathogens gained resistance. As a solution about these problems, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) could be used for the promotion of plant growth instead of chemicals. Recently, numerous studies on microbial plant growth promoting (PGP) characters were conducted based on molecular biology like genome sequencing by next generation sequencing (NGS) technique. In this review, we discuss PGP characters about nitrogen fixation, solubilizing/mineralizing phosphorus, production of siderophore, degradation of ethylene and biosynthesis of IAA and cytokinin at gene level and predict the essential set of genes for the PGPR function.
