Milling 조건에 따른 BaTiO<sub>3</sub>의 저온 소결성 및 전기적 특성 변화

It is necessary to minimize the mismatch of sintering shrinkage between dielectric ceramic and Ni inner electrode layers for the purpose of developing the ultra high-capacity multi layered ceramic condenser(MLCC). Thus, low temperature sintering of dielectric $BaTiO_3$ ceramic should be precedently investigated. In this work, the influence of the milling condition on sintering behavior and electrical properties of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics was investigated in the $BaTiO_3$(BT)-Mg-Dy-Mn-Ba system with borosilicate glass as a sintering agent. As milling time increased, specific surface area(SSA) of the powder increased linearly, while both sinterability and dielectric property were found to be drastically decreased with an increasing SSA. It was also revealed that the sinterability of the excessively milled $BaTiO_3$ ceramics could be recovered by increasing Ba content, rather than increasing glass addition. These results suggest that the sintering behavior of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics under the high SSA was more strongly dependent on the transient liquid phase caused by Ba addition, than the liquid phase from additional glass.

The electrical property and microstructure in $BaTiO_3$ ceramics doped rare-earth ions with intermediate ionic size ($Dy^{3+},Ho^{3+},Y^{3+}$) were investigated. Microstructures have been characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Incorporation of rare-earth ions to $BaTiO_3$ ceramics depended on their ionic radius sensitively. Compared to Ho and Y ions, Dy ions provide $BaTiO_3$ ceramics with the high rate of densification and well-developed shell formation, due to their high solubility in the $BaTiO_3$ lattice, but the microstructure of Dy doped $BaTiO_3$ ceramics is unstable at high temperature, because Dy ions could not play a role of grain growth inhibition, leading to diffuse into $BaTiO_3$ lattice continuously after completion of densification during sintering. Comparing electrical property and microstructure, it is shown that the reliability of capacitor improved by high shell ratio.

$BaTiO_3$ powder was synthesized by the solid-state reaction of fine $BaTiO_3$ and $TiO_2$ raw materials. Fine grinding media of 50 and 300 microns were used for obtaining fine particulate mixture of $BaTiO_3$ and $TiO_2$ with high homogeneity. Effect of the size of grinding media on the synthesis mechanism of $BaTiO_3$ was discussed on the basis of the particulate morphology and thermogravimetry data for the mixture powders. By using the finer grinding media, $BaTiO_3$ was formed at the lower temperature and the particle size with the relatively narrower distribution could be obtained. $BaTiO_3$ powder with the average size of 100 nm was synthesized by the solid reaction in vacuum atmosphere.

A study has been made of a X-ray method for measuring the volume fractions of component phases in α+β' brass sheets and α+ β' Pb brass rods having textures. Taking into account only one reflection intensity from each phase leads to serious errors in results regardless of the textures. Five or six lower index reflections from each phase have to be taken into account to achieve satisfactory results.
