        Investigating the Relationship between Public Leisure Service Satisfaction and Community Attachment

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the public leisure service program quality and the program user`s satisfaction in community centers managed by district offices and to examine the mediating role of these emotional attachment to the local community. This study tries to propose the importance of public leisure service and the positive development of public leisure service and program for the future. The study site focused on 6 community centers in 5 district zone of Seoul. The questionnaires were distributed to leisure program users. The total of 257 collected data were used for analyzing. The method of the statistical analysis used in this study, were one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and regression analysis. The result of this study are as follows, First, participant`s background characteristics; gender, length of program using, length of residence influenced on service quality satisfaction and community attachment. Second, sub-factors of service quality; tangible, competence, convenience, efficiency, responsiveness, were positively influenced on service satisfaction. Third, service satisfaction had a significant influence on participant`s community attachment.

        스포츠 속 구현된 젠더고정관념에 대한 소고

        스포츠는 사회의 변화를 직간접적으로 반영해주는 문화요소이자 사회의 축소판이다. 오랜 역사 속 사회 전반에 걸친 남성과 여성의 불평등과 불공평은 기저적인 사회현상으로 여겨져 왔다. 이러한 맥락에서 역사적으로 스포츠는 오랜 기간 ‘남성 중심 영역’으로 분류되어 왔다. 스포츠 분야의 젠더와 관련된 상당수의 연구는 여성의 젠더갈등에 중점을 두고 있다. 그러나 특정 스포츠 참여에 있어 남성 또한 젠더 고정관념에 따른 갈등을 경험한다는 사실에 주목할 필요가 있다. 사회적으로 구축된 ‘여성성’의 젠더고정관념을 갖은 스포츠 참여에 있어 남성들 또한 자유롭지 못한 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 성과 상반된 젠더유형 스포츠에 참가하고 있는 남성과 여성참여자의 경험을 있는 그대로 기술하여 그들의 스포츠 참여 맥락을 이해하고자 한다. 이를 통해 스포츠 참여에 있어 젠더고정관념이 작용하는 맥락에 대한 사회적 의미를 알아보고 젠더 중립적 스포츠참여에 대한 시사점을 제공하는 것이 본 연구의 최종 목적이다. 이 연구는 사회적으로 정의된 ‘성’과 상반된 젠더유형 종목에 참여하고 있는 대학생 8명을 대상으로 포토보이스를 활용한 심층면담을 수행하였으며 그들의 경험을 분석했다. 연구결과 젠더유형과 상반된 종목 참여에 있어 연구 참여자들은 유사한 경험을 토로하였다. 남성참여자와 여성참여자의 유사한 경험은 젠더에 대한 새로운 시사점을 보여준다. 남성 중심사회 속 구축된 견고한 여성 중심사회가 스포츠 속 존재하는 것이다. 이러한 연구결과는 사회적으로 구축된 젠더에 따른 갈등을 겪고 있는 경험이 비단 특정 ‘성’에게만 해당되지 않는 다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 사회의 젠더 고정관념으로 인해 국내 스포츠 종목은 불균형한 성장을 이루고 있으며, 젠더고정관념은 성에 따른 스포츠 참여를 장려하여 남성지배적 혹은 여성지배적 구조를 야기하고 있는 것이다. 양성평등이란, 특정 성의 불편을 개선하기 위한 것이 아니다. 이는 남성과 여성 모두에게 해당하는 ‘평등’의 개념으로 인식되고 이에 대한 이해가 필요할 것이다. Sports is a cultural element that directly and indirectly reflects changes of society, it also could defined as a microcosm of the society. Throughout the long history of sports, gender has been shown substantial effect on quality of practices, opportunities, and experiences. Since women have experienced unfair treatment in sports participation, many papers related to gender in sports focus on gender conflicts of female and their participation challenges. However, gender is not synonym term of female. It determines social and cultural consideration both for male and female. Expanding the scope of gender, men also experience constraints on gender stereotypes in certain sports participation. Men are not also free to participate in sports with a strong social awareness of feminity. Therefore, the primary purpose of the study is to understand difficulties of participating opposite gender stereo type sports both for women and men in Korea in-depth. The results of the study indicated that even the participants were faced with different situation in different sports, both male and female participants had similar experiences. The results indicated new implications of gender. The participants explained existence of both male-dominated and female-dominated structure in sports. The results of this study showed that the experiences of gender conflicts are not limited to specific gender. Due to the gender stereotypes of society, sports are having unbalanced growth. Because invisible pressure or promotion are existing in the society which make people to participate gender stereotype matching sports. Gender equality is not intended to improve the inconvenience of specific gender. We should recognize a concept of ‘gender equality" is for both men and women.

        대학생의 금연지속을 위한 여가교육의 역할연구

        This study aims to compare the leisure type and smoking attitude among college students to provide the fundamental data for developing smoking Cessation programmes. To achieve the goal, 200 samples were collected from Seoul, Kyiinggi Do, KyungSang Do, ChungChung Do. SPSS 15.0 were used to analyze the data with frequency analiysis, exploratory factor analysis, stochastic confidence test, one-way ANOVA analysis. The results are as follows; First, for continued non-smoking, more participation to leisure activity is needed, therefore offering a variety of leisure and active promotion of the programme is important. second, longer leisure participation showed a positive attitude toward non-smoking. Thus, the expansion of students’ leisure time is needed. Third, smoking attitude showed differently by types of living arragment. When provide the smoking cessation programme, consider living arrangement type and appropriate leisure programme is needed.

        대학생들의 젠더인식에 따른 여가스포츠 구분에 관한 연구

        Times have changed, but still many of the gender stereotypes remain in our society(Schmalz & Kerstetter, 2006). Furthermore, different circumstance in society both for men and women highly influenced on their sports and leisure activities` participation. Many psychologist have recognized the distinct differences with their biological differences and gender identity; masculine or feminine, and social expectation and circumstances individual faced with in everyday life. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to identify the gender stereo types of sport and leisure in Korea, to understand difficulties and barriers of participating various leisure and sports activities in Korea. Firstly, the study analyzed the relationship between gender stereotypes and different leisure sports. The participants have divided different types of sports and its gender type in open-ended questions, major findings are as follow; (1) `Men`s leisure sports`: soccer, baseball, rugby, basketball, fishing, wrestling, gymnastics, fishing etc. (2) `Women`s leisure sports`: ballet, yoga, dance-sports, jogging, Pilates, aerobics etc. Secondly, the group interview conducted to understand the images of `Men`s` and `Women`s` leisure sports. According to the interview, images of `Men`s sports` were listed as `active`, `competitive`, `physical contact`, `dangerous`, `powerful`, `team-work` etc. However, images of `Women`s sports` were fairly opposite, it listed as `inactive`, `not competitive`, `individualistic`, `beautiful` and `elegant`. Thirdly, the study analyzed social influences which the participants affected by, the findings are; (1) Education; school (2) Social relationship; family, peer group and (3) Media; TV, movie, have been listed. Lastly, the study conducted in-depth interview to understand experiences which the participants have faced with their everyday lives. The study propose the following suggestions for positive changes in our society. First, leisure and sports education in school system needed to change, second, realization of leader might needed and lastly parents should support their children`s diverse interests in sports and leisure activities.

        여대생의 '남성 스포츠' 참여경험에 관한 질적 연구

        In the last decade, women’s involvement in leisure sports has increased dramatically. This in turn “enable female participants to develop positive attitudes towards sports or physical activities in their daily lives” (Williamson, 1993). Even with the wide range of sport activities available to woman, there is still many sports labeled as “men’s sports”. These sports were considered inappropriate for female to participate especially in Korea. However, some female student athletes attempt to participate in so called “men’s sports”. In this study, we primary focus on the challenges of these female athletes who will be participating in sports stereotypical seen as “men’s sports”. This study covered the difficulties of women in these sports and the challenges they face. The research was conducted over the period of six month, using three different techniques to collect the data (participation observation, in-depth interviews and documentary analysis). The participants in the study were students who were enrolled in basketball elective course in the spring of 2015 at K University. Six female students were recruited for the in-depth interview. The data was collected and analyzed as an ongoing process in which during the study, the theme were modified and developed by three researchers. For reliability and validity, the research questions and processes have been open-ended for the research interviewees. As a result, the challenges that the female athletes face, both in and out of the class room will be categorized in the fallowing themes: (1) natural inferiority to men as biological differences (2) gaps in performance levels; skill-related difficulties (3) lack of sports related experience; unskilled physical education experiences (4) behavior forces by society as women; gender role expectation from a society and gender stereotype in a society (5) lack of social support, difficult to join sports club and find people to play with after class.

        젠더 유형에 따른 스포츠 종목의 구분 : 대학생의 스포츠 젠더 고정관념에 대한 인식

        Throughout the long history of sports, gender has been shown substantial effect on quality of practices, opportunities, and experiences. Recently International Olympic Committee(IOC) announced gender equality within the Olympic Movement. Despite the worldwide efforts and changes, a question remains in South Korea. The primary purpose of the study is to identify the gender typing of sports in Korea in depth, to provide comprehensive overview to understand Korean young adult’s gender stereotype in sports. The data were collected from 523 university students. For the analysis, study used SPSS 20.0 programs, the collected data were analyzed by frequency, reliability, confirmatory analysis, mean analysis and t-test. The major findings are as follow: (1) out of 77 sports 38 sports were classified as “Neutral”, and 8 sports were categorized as “Feminine”; dance sports, synchronized swimming, aquarobics, aerobic, yoga, pilates, Korean dance and gymnastics. And 31 sports were categorized as “Masculine”; rugby, wrestling, football, mixed martial arts, hunting, boxing, baseball, kickboxing, fishing, foot volleyball, soccer, basketball, triathlon, ice hockey, judo, futsal, kendo, bodybuilding and health, cycling, survival, gunnery, billiards, field hockey, hapkido, crossbow, canoe, rafting, inline hockey, track and taekwondo. (2) the result indicated that the sex difference had a significant effect on gender typing of sports; according to the results, male participants scored higher in ‘masculine’ sports activities and marked lower score in ‘feminie’ sports activities.

        학생선수 친화적 종목별 학교운동부 운영규정 제정을 위한 탐색: 미국 학교운동부 농구리그 운영규정 사례를 중심으로

        본 연구의 목적은 미국 학교운동부 종목별 운영규정 분석을 통해 국내 중·고등학교 학교운동부 ‘종목별’ 운영규정 재정을 위한 시사점을 제시하는 것이다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 농구 종목을 선정했고, 미국 50개 주중 참여자 수가 가장 많은 5개 주의 규정을 분석했다. 이를 기반으로 실효성 있는 국내 학교운동부 운영규정재정의 필요성과 기초자료를 제시하고자 했다. 첫째, 미국 학교운동부 운영에 관리 기관인 미국 대학체육협회(NCAA)와 미국 고교체육연맹(NFHS)의 구조와 제도를 분석했고, 둘째, 이를 바탕으로 5개 주(텍사스 : University Interscholastic League, 오하이오 : Ohio High School Athletic Association, 미시간 : Michigan High School Athletic Association, 캘리포니아 : California Interscholastic Federation, 일리노이 : Illinois High School Association)에서 시행되고 있는 학교운동부 운영방침을 분석했다. 결과: NCAA와 NFHS의 기본 정책을 주별 상황에 맞게 변형해 규정을 적용하고 있었다. 핵심정책별로 살펴보면 ‘훈련 및 대회관련 규정’, ‘학업관련규정’, ‘건강관련규정’으로 구분할 수 있다. 모든 학교운동부 운영 규정은 ‘안전과 건강’, ‘학업과 운동 병행’, ‘아마추어리즘’이란 핵심어로 서로 연관되어 있었다. 즉 ‘경기력’ 뿐 아니라 ‘학생 신분과 역할’ 그리고 ‘건강’까지 염두에 두고 있다는 점은 종목별 운동부 운영규정이 전무한 우리나라 학교운동부 현장에 시사하는 바가 크다. 종목별 특성, 학년, 성별, 건강, 인권을 고려한 학교운동부 운영규정 제정이 필요한 시점이다. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the regulations of National College Athletics Association and National Federation of State High School Association in order to suggest school athletic regulations in Korea. To obtain the purpose, basketball league was selected and regulations from five states in Unites States were analyzed to provide significant and basic information to establish the school athletic regulations in Korea. Methods: First, the structures and system of two governing bodies, NCAA and NFHS were analyzed. Second, based on the first analysis, operation policies from five selected states(Texas, Ohio, Michigan, California, Illinois) were examined. Results: Each state fine-tuned and refined NCAA and NFHS’s fundamental policies depending on each state’s situation. The categories of core policies were ‘training and competition regulation’ ‘academic regulation’ ‘health and safety regulation’. Each athletic regulation is related to ‘safety and health’ ‘academic and athletic dual career’ ‘amateurism.’ Conclusion: The results of this study imply that the US’ athletic regulations consider not only high performance but also the role and status of students and health, consideration is suggested when establishing the regulations in Korea.
