In this study, durability of damaged geomembrane was examined through chemical resistance test and this was done by assumption of real waste landfill environmental condition. From the experimental result, damaged HDPE geomembrane have excellent acidity-resistance. For 80℃, tensile strength of damaged HDPE geomembrane decreased rapidly and this indicates high temperature is a cause of flexibility increase of damaged HDPE geomembrane.
Durability Review of Geomembranes by Stress Crack Resistance Evaluation

In this paper, the effect of UV (ultraviolet) exposure on HDPE (high density polyethylene)-smooth and f-PP (flexible polypropylene) geomembranes is evaluated under UVB-313 (ultraviolet wave length 290-315 nm) exposure. Tensile property, Melt Flow Index (MFI), Oxidation Induction Time (OIT), both Standard-OIT and High Pressure-OIT and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy/ Attenuated Total Reflectance (FTIR/ATR) is discussed. Arrhenius model by extrapolation was used on the data to predict the antioxidant lifetime to a typical site temperature of 20℃.

In this study, the main factors that affect failures of seam were discussed and basic test on the seam conditions to seam strength was conducted. And through a model for the design strength of geotextile tube, the tensile strength of geotextile that composed tube is mentioned as a basic value, unless the seam strength is the weakest part in the geotextile tube. However, long-term resistance of seam strength have not considered for determining the design strength of geotextile tube. It is seen that seam type and stitching type are more critical than strength of seam thread.
Evaluation of Waste Landfill Applicable Performance of Geomembrane by Accelerated Index Tests

The result of the test is reported and it has been found that number of loading cycle has irregular influence on installation damage. It is known that the service life of a GM depends on the exposure conditions, which in a landfill may involve adverse chemical exposure, elevated operating temperatures, and potentially large physical stresses. New equipment was developed and the installation damaged GM samples were exposed to pH solutions under different stress at elevated temperature for hours. It has been noticed that as the applied stress on GM samples increases, residual tensile strength decreases and they showed higher tolerance to acidic condition than alkali condition.
