In this paper we propose a fractal image coding based on discrete wavelet transform using quadtree and an adaptive subband threshold which takes "0" encoding when the energy of range blocks is smaller than the adaptive energy threshold and then applies quadtree when the square error oi range bloks is larger than adaptive square error threshold. The proposed method improved PSNR, computational complexity at encoding distinctly. Also, this method can achieve a blockless reconstructed image and perform hierarchical decoding without recursive contractiv transformation Computer simulations with test images show that the proposed method has better performace than the conventional fractal coding methods and JPEG for encoding still images.
