The purpose of this study was designed for the specific purpose of identifying and quantifying preserved abilities that might form the beginning steps of rehabilitation programs for severely aphasic patients. The Korean version of BASA was developed. The stimulus materials and tasks were to develop and to modify on the basis of Boston Assessment of Severe Aphasia(BASA). The K-BASA provided information that these patients may retain the ability to process certain of linguistic and paralinguistic information seldom probed in order aphasic measures. This instrument was 61 items, these were grouped according to task requirements and item content in terms of auditory comprehension, praxia, oral-gestural expression, reading comprehension, gesture recognition, writing, and visuo-spatial skills. Accordingly, the K-BASA may be used to design an individual treatment program the encourages further development of the patients strongest response modality, using stimuli that elicit the most communicative response.
