본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 기업의 연구개발투자가 부채비율에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하는 것이다. 연구의 기본적 방법은 2001년부터 2014년까지 14년 동안 총 4564개 기업-년도 패널자료를 바탕으로 단순 회귀분석보다는 연구모형으로 적합성이 큰 것으로 간주되는 고정효과패널 모형을 이용한 실증분석이다. 또한 이러한 분석은 시차모형을 통해서도 이루어진다. 본 연구의 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 선행 연구들의 분석결과와 상반되게 단순 고정효과 패널모형에 의한 실증분석에서 우리나라 기업의 연구개발 투자가 증가할수록 부채비율이 감소하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 한 기간 전 연구개발 투자가 그 다음 기간 부채비율에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 시차 고정효과 패널모형에 의한 실증분석에서 우리나라 기업의 연구개발투자가 증가할수록 통계적으로 유의하게 시장가 부채비율은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이런 결과들을 종합하면 우리나라 기업의 연구개발투자가 증가할수록 부채비율이 감소하는 것은 시차를 통해서만 그리고 부채비율을 장부가가 아닌 시장가로 측정했을 때만 나타난다. 본 연구의 시사점은 적합성이 높은 연구모형을 사용하면 기존 연구들의 취약성을 보완할 수 있다는 것이다. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how the leverage of Korean firms affects R&D investments The basic model for the analysis of this paper to test the hypothesis that the leverage of Korean firms is negatively related to R&D investments is fixed effect panel model. This paper test the hypothesis using 4564 firm-year panel data from 2001 to 2014. This paper also use the time lagged model in the analysis. Major findings of this paper are as follows: First, the result from the test of the hypothesis using simple fixed effect model shows that the leverage of korean firms is not negatively related to R&D investments. Second, in the analysis using lagged fixed effect panel model the market value leverage of korean firms was found to be negatively related to R&D investments. The implication of this paper is that the other methodology more fit for the analysis leads to the result that supplements the existing results.
