        PDA 화면 내 버튼 선택을 위한 입력지원방식의 사용성 평가

        The primary objective of this study is to design input methods for assisting button selection tasks on a PDA screen. Familiar methods in the existing computing environments were investigated to develop aiding methods. Factors manipulated in the experiment included aiding method, button size, and users' prior experience with PDAs. A total of sixteen participants examined the usability of button selection tasks. Two types of button selection tasks were used as experimental tasks; one was selecting a target button, and the other was selecting multiple target buttons consecutively. The results showed that the aiding method and the button size had significant effects on the subjective satisfaction as well as the performance. In addition, users' prior experience with PDAs affected the performance significantly. The interaction between the aiding method and the button size was found to have significant effects on the performance. However, the interaction effect between the button size and the PDA experience was significant on the task performance time only for the multiple button selection tasks. Design considerations were proposed based on the experimental results. These can be applied to the PDA interaction design to make the PDAs more usable.

        PDA를 위한 스크롤 및 정보 제시 방법의 인간공학적 설계

        Mobile internet access using such devices as PDAs and cellular phones becomes popular as mobile technologies grow. However, the characteristics of small screen devices such as small screen size and pen-based input cause many usability problems. In this study, a human factors experiment was conducted to identify the factors affecting the usability of information search on a PDA. Factors manipulated in the experiment included use of wheel equipment, scroll dimension, and screen orientation. Task completion time, error frequency, and subjective satisfaction level were measured. In addition, various users' behavioral patterns such as scanning routes and mainly used scrolling methods were analyzed. Scroll dimension has a significant effect on task completion time. Scroll equipment and screen orientation affect subjective satisfaction level. The results could be applied to designing information structure of web sites for mobile use by providing vertical scroll and using external scroll equipments.

      • 휴대폰 무선 인터넷의 메뉴 선택 작업을 위한 입력 장치의 사용성 평가

        This study aimed to compare usability of navigation keys, a touchpad, and a touchscreen for selecting menu items on mobile internet. A usability evaluation experiment with two factors (an input interface and a menu density) was conducted to examine target selecting time, accuracy, and subjective satisfaction scores. The input interface included four levels (i.e. navigation keys, a touchpad, a touchscreen with thumb input, a touchscreen with stylus-pen input). The menu density means that the number of menu items presented at a time and three types of menu densities (i.e. nine, twenty five, and forty nine) were evaluated. The results showed that the touchscreen with stylus-pen input is the best alternative in terms of both the performance and the subjective satisfaction scores, as expected. Except the best alternative, the touchpad took less time to perform tasks than navigation keys when the menu density was forty nine. Moreover, the touchpad had fewer errors than the touchscreen with thumb input at the same condition. The results of this study can be applied to designing new interfaces for mobile phones.

      • 사용자 가치 평가 방법 개발 및 검증

        최근 사용자 경험에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어 지면서, 평가 방법에 대한 논의도 다양하게 이루어지고 있다. 사용자 경험은 기존 HCI 분야에서 다루지 않았던 다양하고 광범위한 측면을 포괄한다. 이에 따라 모호하고 추상적인 개념을 평가할 수 있는 방법론이 개발될 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 사용자 경험의 주요 구성요소이자 평가 방법에 대한 연구가 기존에 거의 이루어지지 않았던 사용자 가치를 어떻게 평가할 것인지 다루고자 한다. 이를 위해 사용자 가치 평가에 적용 가능한 다양한 방법들을 HCI 뿐만 아니라 심리학, 마케팅, 정보공학 등 주요 인접 분야에서 수집하고 검토하였다. 그 결과 투사적 검사를 활용한 평가, 제품/서비스 기능 별 평가, 퍼지 개념을 활용한 평가, 설문 항목에 의한 평가 등 총 네 가지 방안을 도출하고 스마트폰을 사용한 사례 연구를 통해 신뢰도 및 타당도를 검증하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 평가 방법은 추후 사용자 가치 및 여러 가지 추상적인 개념 평가에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

      • 블록체인 기술에 대한 이해도가 암호 화폐 지갑의 신뢰에 미치는 영향

        블록체인은 무신뢰 기술이라 불리며, 최근의 신뢰연구 흐름에 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 그러나, 블록체인의 활용이 언제나 사용자들에게 무신뢰를 보장하지는 않는다. 블록체인의 신뢰에 대한 많은 사용자 중심의 연구가 진행되고 있으나, 여전히 이해가 필요한 부분이 남아있다. 특히, 자동화 기술과 같은 혁신적인 기술이 도입되었던 과거의 예시들은 기술에 대한 사용자의 이해도가 신뢰 형성에 매우 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 밝혔다. 본 연구는 암호화폐 지갑을 예시로 블록체인 기술에 대한 이해가 신뢰에 미치는 영향을 파악하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 블록체인에 대한 이해도를 기반으로 두 그룹으로 나누어진 32 명의 참가자가 8 개의 암호화폐 지갑의 신뢰와 관련된 상황을 이해하고 신뢰 관련 요인과 전반적인 신뢰에 대하여 평가하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 기술에 대한 사용자의 이해도가 일부 요인에 유의한 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여준다. 연구의 정량적, 정성적 결과를 기반으로 기술에 대한 이해도와 블록체인 서비스의 신뢰에 대한 해석이 제공된다. 본 연구는 블록체인 서비스의 설계자 및 제공자가 사용자의 신뢰를 효과적으로 관리하기 위한 근거 자료로 활용될 수 있다. Blockchain, a trustless technology, has a great influence on the recent flow of trust research. However, the application of blockchain does not always guarantee trustless to users. Although a number of user-centered research on trust in blockchain is performed, there are still questions needed to be understood. In particular, precedents where innovative technologies such as automation technology were introduced revealed that the user"s understanding of the technology plays an important role in forming trust. This study aims to understand the effect of understanding in blockchain technology on perceived trust by taking a cryptocurrency wallet as an example. To this end, 32 participants divided into two groups based on their understanding in blockchain grasped the 8 situations related to trust in cryptocurrency wallets and evaluated trust-related factors and overall trust. The results of this study show that the user"s understanding in technology has a significant effect on some factors. Based on the quantitative and qualitative results of the experiment, interpretation regarding to understanding in blockchain and trust in cryptocurrency wallet are provided. This study can be used as a basis for designers and providers of blockchain services to effectively manage user trust.

      • 성공적인 블록체인 서비스를 위한 제안: 서비스 가치와 기능 및 문제점 분석

        Blockchain is a distributed database based on a pure P2P network. Blockchain has many advantages such as transparency, immutability, security, etc. Various fields try to introduce blockchain because it is expected to overcome the problems of a centralized system such as trade inefficiency and transparency problems. Many services use blockchain to provide values to their users. However, not all blockchain services are operating successfully. In order for a service that adopts new technology to be successful, it is important to understand the changes that technology has on the service in terms of users and provide the values they want. Blockchain services have different features from existing services such as permanent storage of transaction records, system security using a private key, and reward system. Nevertheless, few studies have considered it from the user’s point of view. This study proposes problems that need to solve to operate blockchain services successfully. This study collected 52 blockchain services and their user reviews. They were analyzed through open card sorting. As a result, it was found that blockchain services introduced new functions to provide values. Also, there are differences between the value services provided and the value the users obtain.

      • Personal Data Disclosure in Blockchain Networks

        Objective: This study investigates the properties of blockchain networks that can influence users’ intention to disclose personal data. Background: Blockchain technology gives rise to new ways of managing personal data. It enables individual-centric data management with such characteristics as safe data storage and easy data sharing. Nevertheless, individuals have to disclose their data to others in peer-to-peer networks in blockchain, and accordingly privacy concerns could occur. In other words, blockchain technology can be a double-edged sword by simultaneously providing the privacy concern of personal data disclosure with the benefit of delivering network participants with a new way to manage their data. From the perspective of blockchain network users, there is still a lack of research on the impact on personal data disclosureThis study investigated the properties of blockchain networks. Method: This study consists of two phases, literature survey and user studyA literature survey was conducted to find the properties of blockchain networks related to personal data disclosure. It considered not only blockchain types—public/private, permission/permissionless blockchain—but also technologies that complement the limitations of blockchain technology, such as off-chain or inter-chain. Twenty-two properties of blockchain networks were obtained as a result. It also conducted user research to select the blockchain network properties influencing personal data disclosure intentions. Sixteen participants who have experiences participated in the experiment individually. They received 22 cards displaying the properties. They selected and ranked the cards they considered appropriate by using the following criteria: a) encouraging to disclose personal data to others within the network or b) making reluctant to disclose personal data to others within the network. And then this study conducted an interview on how they thought each blockchain network property influences the intention to disclose personal data. Results: As a result of the user research, the participants responded that ten properties could encourage disclosure, and five properties could influence disclosure reluctance. The participants responded that the security status of their data disclosed on the blockchain network—how personal data is exposed to others, how it is managed or stored—or trust in the network affects the disclosure intention of personal data. Although the participants responded that the ’financial reward from data disclosure’ can induce the disclosure intention, its rank is low because they do not think they can receive a large amount of money as a reward by disclosing data. They also responded that the properties of the public blockchain network—‘everyone could read the data in the network’, ’know whom the personal data came from’, ’all users, including myself, own all data’—particularly influence in their reluctance to disclose data. Conclusion: This study investigated whether blockchain technology can be used for individual-centric data management systems from the point of view of network users. Blockchain network properties usually influence a positive effect on data disclosure intention. On the other hand, the properties that may make people reluctant to disclose personal data are the fundamental characteristic of the public blockchain. It is necessary to design individual-centric data management systems using blockchain technologies with private blockchain or other technologies that can overcome this limitations.
