This is a comparative study mainly on foreign countries' domestic standards and laws on barrier free housing construction that can be applied to the dwelling of elderly friendly apartment housing. Eight countries - the United States, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and China - were reviewed as foreign cases. The analyzed subjects were design standards only for the disabled and the aged. To compare barrier-free guides of the eight countries, each barrier-free guide on three space units (entrance, bedroom, living room) was divided into 11 design items and 36 design factors. The comparative analysis on foreign cases was based on the design guide according to Korea's KS P 1509 (principle and recommendation for designing dimension of dwelling in consideration of the elderly). Some factors -if with dimensions- were compared by means of the skewness of distribution. In the analysis result, there were not only common standards for the nine countries such as a dimension of the space for wheelchair movement but also different standards such as heights of outlets and horizontal lengths of bathtub grab bars. The detailed analysis shows that it is urgently necessary to prepare new domestic national design standards for 8 factors that foreign countries already have. It is also needed to immediately prepare dimension standards for the design factors, which have no detailed dimensions but only national guides, in consideration for anthropometric dimension.

Recently subway passengers to reduce their travel time has increased direct train service. we can reduce the travel time for passengers. But the screen is installed inside the platform to ensure the stability directly into a strong wind pressure when the train passes the platform. So there is many problems. For example, the platform interior ceiling finishes materials went down and air conditioner airflow reflux symptoms occurred new risk. Some problems for the safety of the passengers was raised. Therefore, We studied inside platform installed screen door. When the direct train pass through the platform, we measured wind pressure of operating ceiling finishes materials. As a result, It is focus on the two things. Make a decision the design wind pressure for measured wind pressure and reflect to design for safe use subway of passengers. The purpose of this analysis of the impact on the wind pressure through express train in the platform on the ground is to apply the platform ceiling finishes material design in order to adapted railway project under control Government in the future.

In this study, the spatial analysis of the multi-housing unit plans was investigated since 1990 for the winners at the architectural competition which was held nationwide in Germany. The investigation was carried out from January in 1990 to December in 2010. 201Unit plans were analyzed. Space syntax model is used as analyzing tool of the Unit plans. The results of the study indicate followings: 1) The interior spaces in 3LDK types and 4LDK types, ordered by high value of integration are; ① corridor, ② entrance hall, ③ living room, ④ dining room. 2) The value of integration for the kitchen is higher in L/DK type than in LD/K type, and that for the living room is higher in LD/K type than in L/DK type. The mean value of integration for L/DK type is higher than that for LD/K type. This means that traffic line efficiency of L/DK type is higher than that of LD/K type. 3) The value of integration for corridor and entrance hall is gradually lower in recent years. That is, the type of Unit plans are changing from corridor types to hall types.

This is the following-up study of 'A Comparative Study on The Barrier Free Dwelling Guidelines of Domestic and Foreign countries. -Focused on Entrance, Bedroom and living room-' published in the Journal of The Korea Institute of Healthcare Architecture in February, 2010, and the scope of the study was limited to kitchens, baths and toilets. Regarding barrier-free dwellings, the national standards operated by Foreign Eight countries -the United States, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and China, were investigated and compared. Also, they were analyzed on the basis of 'KS P 1509 (Principle and recommendation for designing dimension of dwelling in consideration of the elderly)', and the commonness and difference about national standards between foreign and domestic countries were clarified. Accordingly, when designing barrier-free dwellings, the characteristics and commonness of design guidelines between countries, and the degree of similarity to domestic standards could be known more specifically. Therefore, it is thought that this study will help to supplement and improve the Korean standards of barrier-free dwelling architecture.

In this study, the critical elements of the design evaluation was investigated since 1990 for the winners at the architectural competition which was held nationwide in Germany. The investigation was carried out from January in 1990 to December in 2010. The field of function accounts for about half of four basic architectural fields. Then, it follows as function, etc, aesthetic and construction fields. According to the classification of Korea Land & Housing Corporation, the field of apartment complex accounts for about half of four basic architectural fields such as apartment complex, building, feasibility analysis and specialized design fields. The critical elements such as landscape and outdoor space design, arrangement of building, context, circulation, concept, form, unit plan, design of facade, cost of construction, organization of space are persistently proved to be essential. These items are regarded as the most important elements of the design evaluation at the competition in Germany as well. The results of this study can be applied to the development of the critical elements of design in Korea.
