A Negotiation Model Development Based on Economic Effects of TKR in North Korean Side

  This paper attempts to develop a decision-making model for South and North Korean governments to negotiate economic effects of the Trans Korea Railway (TKR) in North Korean section. TKR will pass through the Korean peninsula and connect to the Euro-Asia Railroads such as the Trans Siberian Railway. A success of the TKR operations depends on a good understanding of economic effects, yielding by comparison between costs and benefits of TKR operation.<BR>  Quantitative model can develop a decision making model to account for the economic effect of TKR. However, no prior study has focused on the economic effect of TKR with an optimization approach. A lack of research on this subject motivates this research. First, this paper employs a mixed integer programming for an optimization modeling technique to estimate the total transport cost using TKR. Next, based on the optimization models, a decision making model is developed to estimate the economic effect of TKR. The proposed model will provide information that helps policy makers in North Korea, South Korea and Japan reach an agreement on pricing of the TKR usage fee and total investment volume for improving TKR.

베트남 항만산업 현황 분석을 통한 한국기업의 진출 전략

Vietnam is one of the most attractive countries in the Southeast Asia in terms of business opportunities for its economy is growing rapidly. In this paper, the Vietnamese port industry is introduced and analysed by personal interview and secondary data. Current situation and specific information of the Vietnamese main ports are described, classified with three core zones, the Southland including Ho Chi Min, the Northland including Ha Noi and Hai Phong, and the middleland including Van Phong. Furthermore, future development plans of these ports are outlined. A general entry strategy for the Port of Hai Phong is presented as a real life. In conclusion, this study suggests the Vietnamese port industry should be taken into a serious consideration for foreign investment by the Korean business community.

2005 APEC 경제회의의 의의 - 부산지역 관점에서 -

APEC은 아시아ㆍ태평양지역 경제 협력체로서, 역내 회원국 간의 경제협력을 강화하기 위한 경제협력기구이다. 우리나라를 비롯하여 미국, 일본, 중국, 러시아 등 아시아 태평양지역 21개국이 참가하여 매년 정상회의, 장관급 회담을 비롯한 정부간 회의 및 경제관련 회의와 다양한 민간부문 회의를 개최하고 있다. APEC의 경제관련 회의는 경제인 자문위원회(ABAC)와 최고경영자회의 (CEO Summit)로 구성되어 있으며, 아시아ㆍ태평양지역 경제 통합체 형성에 민간 부분의 참여를 확대하기 위해 구성되었다. 경제인 자문위원회는 정상회의 기간 중 정상들과의 회동을 통해 APEC 역내 기업인들의 관심사항과 건의사항을 전달하는 공식자문기구이며, 최고경영자회의는 역내 기업인들 간 정보 및 친분을 교환하는 포럼 형태를 띠고 있다. APEC 경제관련 회의는 주로 국가적 수준에서의 주요 이슈들을 다루고 있기때문에 부산지역 경제에 미치는 영향은 미미할 수밖에 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 부산 APEC은 부산지역산업의 글로벌화 증진, 부산시청 및 유관기관의 국제화 촉진, 부산시민의 역량 성숙, 그리고 지역 기업들의 국제경쟁력을 강화시키는 계기가 될 것이다. 따라서 이를 극대화시킬 수 있는 실질적인 대책들이 강구되어야 할 것이다. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the organization for facilitating economic cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC has 21 economies as a member, such as USA, China, Japan, Russia, and Korea. In every year Economic Leader's Meeting, Ministerial Meeting, Senior officials Meeting, and various kinds of meetings in private sector has been held. Economic meeting of APEC consists of APEC Business Advisory Council(ABAC) and CEO Summit, which is aimed for increasing participation of private sector in APEC. While ABAC is the formal advisory council, which participate the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting and provide opinions of businessmen, CEO Summit is the forum for exchanging information and friendship between businessmen in this region. Effects of economic meetings in APEC are limited for Busan area, because they are concerned about issues on national level. However, economic meetings in Busan still have significant effects on globalization of Busan regional industries, internationalization of Busan City Hall and related governmental agencies, capability growth of Busan citizen, and increasing global competitiveness of regional firms. Thus various kinds of small meetings and events have to be prepared for effect maximization of APEC in Busan area.

국내진출 해외기업들의 R&D관련 투자규모 결정요인에 관한 연구

  Globalization of R&D activities of multinational firms is becoming important in compared with the past, because of increasing globalization of world economy. So, every country tries to attract foreign investment including R&D activities. In this paper, effects of several factors, which determine the scale of foreign subsidiary"s R&D activities in local market, are analyzed. Through the review of previous literature, I found that three groups of determinant factors.<BR>  The first one is the factor which is related to characteristics of local market, such as competitive situation of local market, accessability to research institutions, etc. The second group is the factor which is related to relationship between foreign subsidiary and its mother company. The dominant factors of this group are operation strategy of foreign subsidiary, competitiveness of mother firm, and equity structure of foreign subsidiary. Finally the characteristics of industry affect to the scale of foreign subsidiary"s R&D activities. Among these factors, 6 factors are chosen to investigate empirically.<BR>  For the empirical investigation, 107 foreign subsidiaries among KOITA(Korea Industrial Technology Association)"s list are chosen. Each subsidiary has more than 50% of foreign equity and implement R&D activities in Korea.<BR>  The results show that sales volume of foreign subsidiary is dominant influencing factor in determining scale of R&D activities in Korean market. And also I found that currently established firms are implementing more R&D activities than old established firms. This is quite interesting finding. However, R&D activities of foreign subsidiary are not vitalized in Korean market. It probably means that Korean government and Korean business partners have to make effort to enhance foreign firms/ R&D activities, because it could contribute technological and economic development of Korean market.

The Baltic Exchange is the oldest and the most powerful center of the world shipping industry since the 18th century. Although lots of countries and cities are trying to duplicate this unique exchange, so far it has not been successful. This paper will analyze the historical development process of the Baltic Exchange and suggest some implications for those who want to use this exchange as a benchmark. The results of the historical analysis suggest that the Baltic Exchange has been very sensitive to adapt itself to the changes of the business environment. secondly the exchange is not a place for only the shipping industry, but a place for negotiation and information-sharing among various other related business actors, such as merchants, shipping brokers, and ship owners.

  The system of international ship exchange has been changed very rapidly. The Baltic Exchange was the most popular market for international ship exchange. However, it was taken by small and efficient ship brokers in world-wide places.<BR>  In order to introduce and systemize ship exchange market in Korea, the Korean style of international ship exchange (The Korea Vessel Exchange, KOVEX) has to be established. This paper suggests concept and operational model of KOVEX.

인터넷쇼핑몰기업의 해외유통채널별 기업특성과 창업자 특성이 국제화성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 집단 간 차이 분석

In this study, the intergroup difference was analyzed on the effect of company & entrepreneur characteristics per foreign distribution channel of the internet shopping mall company to the internationalization performance. To enable this, 135 domestic internet shopping mall companies with overseas sales were subjected to analyze their survey data to perform the multiple regression analysis and the Chow test. The three types of independent shopping mall, lease shopping mall and overseas shopping mall were combined to groups of independent shopping mall & lease shopping mall, independent shopping mall & overseas shopping mall, and lease shopping mall and overseas shopping mall to first perform the regression analysis, and the Chow test was conducted to verify the regression coefficient difference between the two groups. In the empirical analysis results, the independent shopping mall & lease shopping mall group and the lease shopping mall & overseas shopping mall group showed a significant difference in the overseas sales portion. In the independent shopping mall & lease shopping mall group, the independent shopping mall constructs the shopping mall directly and the products are displayed to be managed, and the lease shopping mall is a method of paying monthly lease fee to the business operating the internet sales service. When we compare these operating methods, the independent shopping mall has higher investment in construction management and marketing cost than the lease shopping mall, so it was verified that it was operated more actively to show a difference in the overseas sales portion. In the lease shopping mall & overseas shopping mall group, the lease shopping malls lack experience and the business is small to be not focusing the investment in the overseas sales, and in the case of overseas shopping mall, the start-up is attempted more in overseas due to the expertise of the entrepreneur, so there is a difference in the overseas sales portion between the lease shopping mall and the overseas shopping mall.
