Filtration by fibrous filter is one of the principle methods used for removing pollutant particles in the liquid. Because of the increasing need to protect both human health and valuable devices from exposure to fine particles, filtration has become more important. Filters have been developed with modified surface charge characteristics to capture and adsorb particles by electrokinetic interaction between the filter surface and particles contained in water. The main purposes of this study are to develop and evaluate the performance evaluation of the apparatus for making a positively charged porous filter media and to analyze the surface characteristics of the filter media for capturing negavitely charged contaminants mainly bacteria and virus from water. The experimental apparatus consists of a mixing tank, a vacuum pumping system, a injection nozzle, a roller press and a controller. The filter media is composed of glass fiber(50-750 ㎚), cellulose(10-20 ㎛) and colloidal charge modifier. The characteristics of filter media is analyzed by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy), AFM(Atomic Force Microscopy) and quantified by measuring the zeta potential values.

The present study has been conducted economic analysis through actual operation of EHP and GHP which are installed at the same building of an university. Cost items, such as initial cost, annual energy cost and maintenance cost of each system are considered to analyze LCC and economical efficiency is compared. The initial cost is considered on the basis of actual costs, and annual energy cost is converted into the cost after measuring electricity and gas consumption a day. LCC applied present value method is used to assess economical efficiency of both them. Variables used to LCC analysis are electricity cost escalation rate, natural gas cost escalation rate, interest rate, and service lives and when each of them are 4%, 2%, 8%, and 20 years, results of analysis show that EHP(148,257,306 won) is 8.05%(12,981,990 won) more profitable than GHP(161,239,296 won).

An experimental study is conducted to investigate the characteristic of the ion wind that is generated by electric field between a needle electrode and plate electrode. The ion wind enhances heat and mass transfer between the surface and the surrounding gas. Moreover such enhancement makes no noise or vibration. Therefore it can be applied to complex and isolated geometries. This study is conducted to develop the application of electronic cooling device. The gas velocity generated by ion wind relates to the parameters such as applied voltage, the distance of electrode gap, electrode type and relative humidity. The measured gas velocity is a linear function of the applied voltage and is inversely proportional to the gap of electrodes. The maximum gas velocity for the corona discharge in this system is 2.5 ㎧.
