Needle-embedding therapy is used for face lifting in Korean medical treatment. It was known that facial embedding therapy can be and effective treatment for improving moisture content of skin. Embedding needle is one of medical devices and it should be manufactured in a clean room. 3D static strength prediction program was used to analyze the slow movements during embedding needle manufacturing in a clean room. Also the energy expenditure prediction program was used to estimate energy expenditure rates for materials handling tasks to help assure worker safety and health in clean room. The center for ergonomics at the University of Michigan College has developed these two programs. The energy expenditures of the tasks were calculated using prediction equations derived from empirical data. The energy expenditure rate of 3.09 kcal/min in a clean room didn’t exceed the 3.5 kcal/min action limit guideline for an average 8-hour day set by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The robots are utilized in a variety of real life according to the development and application of service robots. An autonomous transportation robot system for automation of distribution center needs transportation robot, navigation method and so on. The Kiva mobile-robotic fulfilment system in Amazon.com, Inc. enables fast cycle times with reduced labor requirements from receiving to picking to shipping. The Kiva order picking system accommodates case picking from full and partial pallets. Kiva mobile robot including joint constraints and contact conditions was modeled. The moving mechanism of Kiva autonomous transportation robot was simulated by RecurDyn software which is one of most efficient dynamic analysis tools. STEP functions were used to simulate the moving mechanism according to time interval.

소프트웨어를 활용한 기계공학 교육은 이론 전달의 교수법에서 벗어나 학생들의 자발적인 참여와 즉각적인 학습 결과의 피드백을 제공해 줄 수 있다는 점에서 많은 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라의 우수한 과학적 산물 중 하나인 자격루를 기구 모델링과 시뮬레이션 한 사례를 통해 이러한 소프트웨어를 활용한 기계공학 교육의 성과를 소개하고자 한다. 기구학을 이수한 학생들이 자격루의 작동 원리를 분석한 후에, Working Model 2D 소프트웨어를 활용하여 기구를 모델링하였고, 물통의 잣대가 일정 속도로 상승함에 따라 쇠구슬이 순차적으로 이동하여 기구의 운동을 전달하는 방식을 시뮬레이션 하였다. 또한 종을 치는 타격 링크가 시간에 따라 회전하는 운동 그래프를 분석하여 일정 시간 간격으로 타종이 이루어지는지를 살펴보았다.
지오지브라를 이용한 3차원 구조물의 모델링 교육과 응용

In this study, we organize and explain various ways to construct 3D models in the 2D plane using Geogebra, mathematical education software that enables us to visualize dynamically the interaction between algebra and geometry. In these ways, we construct three unit vectors for 3 dimensions at a point on the Cartesian coordinates, on the basis of which we can build up the 3D models by putting together basic mathematical objects like points, lines or planes. We can apply the ways of constructing the 3 dimensions on the Cartesian coordinates to modeling of various structures in the real world, and have chances to translate, rotate, zoom, and even animate the structures by means of slider, one of the very important functions in Geogebra features. This study suggests that the visualizing and dynamic features of Geogebra help for sure to make understood and maximize learning effectiveness on mechanical modeling or the 3D CAD.

Cyber or virtual lectures are increased by the development of information technology and related infrastructure. The contents for manufacturing processes course were produced according to this current situation, and the cyber lecture was opened to the students. The effects of the cyber lecture were investigated with the replies from the students. Many students had a preference for the cyber lecture to the normal lecture in a classroom. It was proved that moving pictures were helpful to increase the educational effects in manufacturing processes course.
MRI 데이터를 이용한 쥐의 경추와 인접한 조직의 유한요소 모델화

Traumatic loading during car accidents or sports activities can lead to cervical spinal cord injury. Experiments in spinal cord injury research are mainly carried out on rabbit or rat. Finite element models that include the rat cervical spinal cord and adjacent soft tissues should be developed for efficient studies of mechanisms of spinal cord injury. Images of a rat were obtained from high resolution MRI scanner. Polygonal surfaces were extracted structure by structure from the MRI data using the ITK-SNAP volume segmentation software. These surfaces were converted to Non-uniform Rational B-spline surfaces by the INUS Rapidform rapid prototyping software. Rapidform was also used to generate a thin shell surface model for the dura mater which sheathes the spinal cord. Altair’s Hypermesh pre-processor was used to generate finite element meshes for each structure. These processes in this study can be utilized in modeling of other biomedical tissues and can be one of examples for reverse engineering on biomechanics.
