1970~80년대 아파트 이름과 아파트 외벽 글자 레터링의 조형적 특징

아파트 외벽 글자는 거리 글자의 한 부분이다. 거리 글자 연구는 도시―인간―문자가 공존하는 타이포그래피의 생태계를 연구하는 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 아파트 글자 레터링의 조형적 특징을 살펴보고 타이포그래피 의미를 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 통해 거리 글자 연구의 학술적 가능성을 제안하고 타이포그래피 연구의 외연을 확장하고자 한다. 연구대상은 1970-80년대에 지어진 아파트의 외벽 글자 레터링이다. 3장에서는 아파트 이름의 사회적 함의를 살펴봤으며, 4장에서는 이것을 시각화한 아파트 외벽 글자 레터링의 조형적 특징을 분석했다. 연구자는 아파트 이름이 담고 있는 사회적 함의를 ① 욕망의 기호, ② 위치 좌표, ③ 교환 가치, ④ 자연 친화, ⑤ 스펙터클의 구호 등으로 분류했다. 1970-80년대 아파트 이름을 통해 도시화, 서구화를 달성한 경제 부흥과 도시민의 긍정적 희망의 흔적을 발견할 수 있었다. 이는 시골과 도시를 이분법으로 구분했던 당시 정부의 성장 위주 부동산 정책과 맞물려 있으며, 한국의 아파트가 개인에게는 신분 상승과 환금의 실물이었음을 보여준다. 아파트 이름은 이러한 당시의 사회적 함의를 함축하고 있었다. 아파트 글자 레터링의 조형적 특징을 ① 부리, ② 둥근 민부리, ③ 각진 민부리, ④ 테두리, ⑤ 입체, ⑥ 그림, ⑦ 장식으로 분류했다. 아파트 외벽 글자 레터링은 1950~60년대 거리 간판에서 흔히 보이는 굵은 붓글씨들과 비슷하게 `써진` 글자도 있고, 납작한 페인트 붓으로 `그려진` 글자들도 있다. 글자의 형태는 제작의 용이성과 함께 재료와 제작 환경에 영향을 받은 것이다. 또 1970년대부터 레터링 전문가가 활약하여 표현 의도를 담아낸 계획적인 글자 레터링도 등장한다. 아파트의 시각적 정체성을 뚜렷하게 만들어가고자 하는 디자인도 보인다. 이러한 과정에서 글자들은 정방형을 벗어난 탈네모의 형태도 보인다. 특히 그림 글자와 장식 글자에서는 이름의 느낌이 글자 형태에서 시각화되어 나타난다. 의미와 형태의 관계가 직접적으로 드러난 것이 특징이다. 이는 당시 표준화된 활자의 제약을 벗어나 추상적/구상적 이미지를 만들어내는 개성이 담긴 한글의 형태를 실험한 것들이다. 이것은 한글의 이미지성을 관찰할 수 있는 사례이다. 이에 연구자는 1970-80년대 아파트 외벽 글자 레터링의 타이포그래피 의미가 `언어 담론`의 한글에서 `시각 담론`의 한글로 확장된 것이라고 보았다. Apartment letters are a part of street letters. Street letter studies focus on the coexistene of city, human beings and letters in terms of typographic environment. By examining the typographic meaning of apartment letters, this paper aims at proposing academic values of streetletter studies and broading the spectrum of typography studies. In addition, the paper raises the necessity of interdisciplinary approach in typography studies. In this study, apartment letters of the apartment buildings constructed in the 1970s and 80s were examined. In chapter three, the social implications of apartment names were examined, followed by chapter four, in which the letterforms of the apartment letters were investigated. The social implications of the apartment letters were classified into signs of desire, location coordinates, exchange values, nature friendly concept and finally, slogans of spectacle. The names of apartment buildings of 1970s and 80s were the positive spirit of economic growth of urbanization and westernization. Besides, the letterforms were categorised into paint brush, round gothic, square gothic, outlined, three-dimensional, illustrative and ornamental ones. There were various kinds of letters written with calligraphic characteristics or painted with paint brushes. Letters painted with wide bruch strokes seemed to the be result of easy application, availability of material and production environment. A number of letterings could be observed due to the rise of letterers in the 1970s. There were also a group of illustrative and ornamental letterings to make the identity of the aparment buildings clear. Meanwhile, out-of-square letters also appeared. As observed, apartment letters themselves were a platform of unique expressive Hanguel letterings, breaking the boundaries of standardized typeface design. In conclusion, the paper views apartment letters written and painted on apartment blocks built in Korea in the 1970s and 80s in terms of visual design perspective.

최소 형태를 활용한 한글 레터링 체계 연구

본 작품 연구는 개인전 <글자풍경>과 수차례 단체전에서 선보인 연구자의 한글 레터링 디자인 작업에 대한 기록이다. 기록과 의사소통이라는 일차적 기능을 넘어서 글자를 사유하는 동안 연구자는 글자의 의미와 형태를 보다 확장할 수 있었고, 이 과정에서 한글의 다양한 실험적 접근이 이루어졌다. 최근 국내외에서 한글을 주제로 한 디자인 작업에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 작품 연구를 통해 한글에 대한 디자이너의 입체적인 시선을 선보이고, 그것을 기록함으로써 유의미한 학문적 의미를 부여받고자 하는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 연구자의 한글 레터링 디자인 작업의 조형적 접근 방식은 『훈민정음해례본』에 나타난 초기의 글자와 닮았다. 『훈민정음해례본』에 나타난 초기 한글 자모 형태와 연구자가 최소 형태를 활용해 글자를 그려가는 것을 비교하는 과정에서 몇 가지 특징을 발견할 수 있었다. 이 연구에서는 ① 한글 자모 형태의 최소화 ② 둥근 점(·)의 복원 ③ 시옷 자의 세로줄기 강조 ④ 탈 네모, 글자 이어쓰기 ⑤ 글자 크기와 획 길이의 가변성 ⑥ 한글의 이미지성 모색 등 한글 레터링 체계를 설명하고 있다. This study documents a series of my Hangeul lettering works that were presented in my solo exhibition "Letterscape" and a number of group exhibitions. My Hangeul letterings draw on the original Hangeul forms as shown in <Hun-min-jeonge-um>. <Hun-min-jeonge-um>, originally published in 1446, is a book that explains about Hangeul principles and its use. It`s in fact the first logical document on Hangeul design. There is a growing interest in Hangeul-based works in and outside of Korea recently. However, there are not enough theoretical and academic approaches concerning Hangeul works and their principles. I feel the need for a more diverse study on Hangeul, so that Hangeul-related exhibitions do not end up in one-shot events; rather, those events should become some meaningful exhibitions that foster academic discussions and findings around Hangeul-based works. Based on <Hun-min-jeonge-um>, I could infer that my Hangeul letterings share several structural similarities with original Hangeul forms. The five structural similarities that I have found out are as following: ① The minimal use of Hangeul morphemes ② The reuse of point (·) ③ The emphasis of vertical line of ``si-ot`` ④ The continuous use of Hangeul morphemes ⑤ The variability of the size of the letter and the length of the stroke.

We report an unusual case of obstructive pneumonia due to an unknown eosinophilic mucoid impaction of the bronchi (MIB). A 54-year-old woman visited our hospital for investigation of abnormal shadows visible on a chest radiograph. Chest computed tomography and bronchoscopic examination revealed pneumonia due to MIB. Histopathological examination of biopsied mucosal tissue revealed extensive eosinophilic infiltration. With the exclusion of medical diseases that can cause eosinophilia, pneumonia due to eosinophilic mucoid impaction of the bronchi was diagnosed. The cause of the eosinophilia remained unknown. The pneumonia and mucoid impaction resolved after oral steroid therapy. (Korean J Med 2015;89:699-703)

올리비에 탈레크 그림책 『무릎 딱지』에서 나타난 붉은 색의 의미 연구

연구배경 그림책에서 색채언어는 표현력을 구비하고 전체의 분위기를 조성하며, 인물의 성격, 감정 등을 나타내는 중요한 요소의 하나이다. 하나의 색 표현은 색조의 차이에 따라 전달효과가 달라진다. 본 연구는 올리비에 탈레크의 『무릎 딱지』의 붉은 색 분석을 통해 그림책에서 나타난 의미를 연구하고자 한다. 연구방법 먼저 그림책의 각 장면을 스토리 따라 시퀀스로 나눠서 주 캐릭터, 보조캐릭터, 배경 세 가지 요소로 붉은 색의 색조(tone)를 분석 한다. 그리고 색조의 분석을 통해 각 장면에서 사용된 붉은 색의 의미를 분석하여 그림책에서 주로 사용된 색조와 톤온톤 배색에 따른 의미와 감정을 결과로 도출한다. 연구결과 주캐릭터의 붉은 색이 색 톤 R/wh이면 치유를 의미하고, 색 톤 R/vv, R/sf, R/lt이면 슬픔이나 고통과 관련한 심리표현이다. 보조캐릭터의 붉은 색은 흐린 색톤R/sf와 밝은 색 톤R/lt에 있으며 이는 슬픔을 의미한다. 배경의 붉은 색은 대부분 선명한 색 톤 R/vv으로 슬픈 분위기를 조성한다. 결론 『무릎 딱지』에서 나타난 붉은 색의 표현방식은 캐릭터의 슬픔부터 마음이 치유됨까지 감정변화에 따라 붉은 색의 채도가 낮아지면서 사용했다. 붉은 색의 의미는 세 단계로 나눌 수 있다. 선명한 색 톤 R/vv이면 깊은 슬픔, 흐린 색 톤 R/sf와 밝은 색 톤 R/lt는 무력하고 우울한 심리변화, 흰 색 톤 R/wh는 마음이 치유됨을 의미한다. Background In the picture book, color language is one of the important elements expressing personality, emotion, etc. One color have various color tone, and each color tone as diffrent effects. In this study examines the meaning of red from this picture book by analyzing the red color of Olivier Tallec's 『La Croute』. Methods First, each scene in this picture book is divided into sequences according to the story to analyze the red color tone of the main characters, auxiliary characters, and background elements. This study analyzes the meaning of red color used in each scene through color tone analysis, and derives meaning and emotion according to color tone and tone on tone color which are mainly used in this picture book. Result The main character's red color means healing, it's color tone is R/wh, and the psychological expression related to sadness or pain when the color tone is R/vv, R/sf or R/lt. Auxiliary character's red color expressed in a blurred color tone R/sf and a bright color tone R/lt, it means sadness. The red color of the background creates a sad atmosphere with mostly vivid color tone R/vv. Conclusion The expression of red in 『La Croute』 was used as the saturation of red color was lowered according to the emotional change from the character's sorrow to the healing of the mind. The meaning of red color can be divided into three stages. Vivid color tone R/vv is Deep sadness, blurred color tone R/sf and bright color tone R/lt is impulsive and depressed psychological change, white tone R/wh means the mind is healed.
