Bimodal Tram is the new conceptual and environmental-friendly public transportation which adopted series hybrid system. The generator driven by CNG engine supplies the electric power to Battery and traction motor. The generator installed on the vehicle will experience the mechanical vibration and electrical transient variation. Those may cause some defects on the generator which will be the hazardous effects to the vehicle. This paper has investigated the possibility to find out some diagnostic features for the defects of generator through the voltage and current generated from it. Those were analyzed in both time and frequency regions. For the next more works will be needed to complete the purpose of this paper.

Bimodal tram with the hybrid propulsion and low floor is a new and beneficial vehicle for the public transportation which is good for both the convenience of the weakness and the prevention of the green house effect. Bimodal tram consists of a complicate electrical and mechanical systems. Each system does not operate with independent but with cooperative. So, we need a synthetic control management system for managing all system effectively. This paper has investigated the configuration and functions of VCU(Vehicle Control Unit) installed inside of bimodal tram which plays variable roles including the apparatus control and the condition monitoring.

Generally, vehicle is insulated from the earth by rubber tire which is intrinsically the insulation material. The electrical ground of vehicle was floated in the sense of electric potential over the electric power sources. First of all, the floated electrical ground of vehicle should be equipotentially connected with the (-) line of electrical equipment. Bimodal tram has the different kinds of electric system. They must be kept insulated to each other electrically. When there is some unbalanced event or connection between them, it will invoke some errors or breakdown to electrical devices including sensors and actuators. This paper has investigated the floating ground effect of bimodal tram built with composite body and shown the effect according to the unbalanced ground of vehicle and the connection between different electric systems.

Low Floor buses have no steps to get on or get off the main cabin to provide the old and the handicapped with easy access. The car body for the low floor bus was designed to consider Korean physical standard, passenger capacity (standee, seated, handicapped), arrangement of vehicle components, and bus law or regulations. It was designed as an one body, without any reinforcement armature, which has light-weight sandwich constructions with glass epoxy skins, aluminum honeycomb cores and inner-frames. In this paper, torsion rigidity of the designed car body was evaluated and compared with that of a car body with reinforcement armatures in the cabin. Finite element method verified that the designed car body without reinforcement armatures could satisfy requirements of torsion rigidity.

The present paper describes an experimental study on the corrosive behaviour of Rolling stock structures. It is important to predict corrosive behaviour of rolling stock structures for safe service and to know relation between corrosion and fatigue life. This paper practiced atmospheric corrosion test of SS400 and SM490A. This study practiced an additional test on the influence of heat-treatment. This test will examine corrosive behaviour and differences of SS400 and SM490A.

In general, structural integrity of rolling stock structures should last more than 25 years. During the lifetime corrosive degradation occurs. For structural design and diagnosis, quantitative relationship between corrosive degradation and variation of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and fatigue strength is needed. In this study, first of all we established the atmospheric corrosion test procedure. At regular intervals using specimens of SM490A and SS400 on the atmospheric corrosion test bed, we carried out tensile and fatigue tests. The fatigue strength decreases as the atmospheric corrosion period increases. And we studied the effect of post-weld heat treatment on the tensile and fatigue behaviour.

Deterioration analysis was performed on carbody and bogies of a shunting locomotive, which has been used for shunting works in steel making processes. In this investigation, various types of technical evaluation methods for the locomotive were employed to assess the current deterioration status. Corrosion test and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques were employed to demonstrate the wear status of the carbody and bogie parts in the locomotive. Since the locomotive has been working under corrosive environment, the corrosion tests with x-ray analysis for exterior part of the locomotive were conducted to examine the evolution of corrosion reaction, and NDE techniques such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and x-ray radiography, were conducted on the carbody and bogies to inspect any possible inherent and/or in-service flaws. In this paper, the degree of deterioration in a shunting locomotive has been presented based on the analysis results.

This study will examine the corrosive properties and differences of SS400 and SM490A from measuring corrosion potential and corrosion current density.
