글라우콘의 도전

『국가』 2권에서 글라우콘은 트라시마코스의 주장을 발전시켜 세차례 소크라테스에게 도전하는데, 정의는 결과 때문에 좋은 것이라고 주장한다. 1) 정의는 서로에게 해를 가하지 말자는 약자들의 약정에서 기원하는데, 불의를 행하고서도 처벌을 받지 않는 최선과 불의를 당하고서도 보복을 할 수 없는 최악 사이에 있다. 2) 모든 사람은 탐욕 때문에 불의를 행하려고 하지만, 처벌 때문에 마지못해 정의를 행한다. 3) 가장 불의한 사람이 가장 행복하기 위해서는 정의의 평판을 함께 가져야 한다. 그러나 글라우콘의 도전에는 문제가 있다. 1) 그가 말하는 정의의 기원은 민주정 일부를 제외하면 불가능하다. 2) 그는 인간이 무한한 욕구 충족을 원한다고 전제할 뿐 이를 입증하지 않으며, 처벌 회피에 논의를 집중하면서 정의로운 질서의 유지를 간과하고, 두 가지 잘못된 전제에서 정의가 결과 때문에 좋은 것이라고 주장한다. 3) 현실적으로 대부분의 사람들은 글라우콘이 말하는 가장 정의로운 사람 또는 가장 불의한 사람이 될 수 없으며, 자연 상태보다는 정의로운 질서 하에서 사는 것이 더 좋기 때문에 불의를 행하지는 않을 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 글라우콘의 도전은 사람들이 불의를 행하는 이유를 강력하게 제시하되 정의를 행해야 할 필요성을 적극 요청한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. In Plato’s Republic Ⅱ, Glaucon develops Thrasymachus’ arguments, challenges Socrates three times, and insists that justice is good because of its consequences. 1) Justice originates from the weak’s agreement with each other neither to inflict injustice nor to suffer from it; it is in between the best(to inflict injustice without paying the penalty) and the worst(to suffer from it without being able to get revenge). 2) All people wish to inflict injustice because of pleonexia, but involuntarily inflict justice because of punishment. 3) The unjust person should have a reputation of being just in order to live most happily. But Glaucon’s challenges have some problems. 1) It is not possible for his origin of justice to come into being except in some democracies. 2) He presupposes that human beings want to satisfy their own wants infinitely, but does not prove this, and he overlooks the maintenance of just order while focusing the discussion on the avoidance of punishment, and by using two wrong assumptions, insists that justice is good because of its consequences. 3) Actually, most people cannot be the most just or an unjust man, and will not inflict injustice because it is better to live under just order rather than under the state of nature. Nevertheless, his challenges have great significance because they strongly indicate the reason to inflict injustice and require the necessity to enact justice positively.

지문 퍼지볼트 시스템의 하드웨어 구현

지문정보를 이용한 사용자 인증은 편리함과 동시에 강력한 보안을 제공한다. 그러나 유한개의 손가락 개수로 인해 패스워드처럼 변경을 자유롭게 할 수 없기 때문에 사용자 인증을 위해 저장된 지문정보가 타인에게 도용된다면 심각한 문제를 일으키게 된다. 지문정보를 안전하게 보호하기 위한 지문 퍼지볼트 시스템에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 또한, 기하학적 해싱 기법을 적용하여 지문 정렬 문제를 해결하려는 연구도 진행되었다. 본 논문에서는 기하학적 해싱 기반 지문 퍼지볼트 시스템의 하드웨어 구조를 제안한다. 제안한 구조는 소프트웨어 모듈과 하드웨어 모듈로 통합 구성된다. 하드웨어 모듈은 등록 해시 테이블과 인증 해시 테이블의 변환 특징점의 정합을 담당한다. 실험결과, 제안한 하드웨어 구조의 수행 시간은 지문 특징점의 수가 36개이고 거짓 특징점의 수가 100개 일 때 0.2초, 400개 일 때, 0.53초이다. The user authentication using fingerprint information not only provides the convenience but also high security. However, the fingerprint information for user authentication can cause serious problems when it has been compromised. It cannot change like passwords, because the user only has ten fingers on two hands. Recently, there is an increasing research of the fuzzy fingerprint vault system to protect fingerprint information. The research on the problem of fingerprint alignment using geometric hashing technique carried out. This paper proposes the hardware architecture fuzzy fingerprint vault system based on geometric hashing. The proposed architecntre consists of software and hardware module. The hardware module has charge of matching between enrollment hash table and verification hash table. Based on the experimental results, the execution time of the proposed system with 36 real minutiae is 0.2 second when 100 chaff minutiae, 0.53 second when 400 chaff minutiae.

아리스토텔레스 『정치학』에서 정치가의 지배와 법의 지배

아리스토텔레스의 『정치학』을 보면, 도시국가에는 세 가지 지배, 즉 왕의 지배, 정치가의 지배, 주인의 지배가 있다. 우월한 자유인이 열등한 자유인을 지배할 때 왕의 지배가 있고, 동등한 자유인이 동등한 자유인을 지배할 때 정치가의 지배가 있으며, 우월한 자유인이 열등한 비자유인을 지배할 때 주인의 지배가 있다. 주인의 지배에서 지배자는 사익을 추구하는 반면, 왕의 지배와 정치가의 지배에서 지배자는 공익을 추구한다. 아리스토텔레스 당시에 정체는 대부분 민주정, 과두정, 참주정이었는데, 주인의 지배가 이루어졌다. 지배자가 사익을 추구하는 지배는 나쁘기 때문에, 지배자가 공익을 추구하는 지배로 바뀌어야 한다. 그런데 평범한 사람들보다 우월한 덕을 지닌 지배자는 없는 반면에 도시국가의 구성원은 서로 동등한 자유인이기 때문에 주인의 지배는 정치가의 지배로 바뀔 필요가 있다. 정치가의 지배가 이루어지기 위해서는 네 가지 조건, 즉 공익 추구, 교대 지배, 법의 지배, 다수의 지배가 필요하다. 정치가의 지배의 목표는 공익 추구이고, 방식은 교대 지배이며, 수단은 법의 지배인데, 다수의 지배가 법의 지배를 보완한다. 지배자와 피지배자 모두 서로 동등한 자유인인 한에서 공익을 추구하는 지배자는 법에 따라 지배를 교대해서 공익을 실현한다. 법의 지배는 정치가의 지배의 중요 수단이지만, 법은 개별적인 상황의 판단에 관한 약점이 있기 때문에 인간의 판단이 요구되는 측면에서 다수의 지배의 도움을 받을 필요가 있다. 서로 동등한 자유인 사이에서 정치가의 지배가 이루어져야 하며, 이를 위해 법의 지배의 역할이 중요하다고 결론 내릴 수 있다. According to Aristotle’s Politics, there are three rules in the city : kingly rule, political rule, and rule of master. When superior free men rule inferior free men, there is kingly rule, when equal free men rule equal free men, there is political rule, and when superior free men rule inferior non-free men, there is rule of master. In rule of master, the ruler pursues personal advantage, while in kingly rule and political rule, the ruler pursues common advantage. At the time of Aristotle, most of the constitutions were democracy, oligarchy, and tyranny, in which there is rule of master. Since the rule in which the ruler pursues personal advantage is bad, it must be changed to rule in which the ruler pursues common advantage. However rule of master needs to be changed to political rule because there is no ruler who has superior virtues to ordinary people and the members of the city are equal freedoms. Four conditions are required for political rule : pursuit of the common advantage, alternation of rule, rule of law, and majority rule. The goal of politician rule is to pursue the common advantage, the method is alternation of rule, and the means are rule of law, and majority rule complements the rule of law. As long as both the ruler and the ruler are equal freedoms, the ruler seeking the common advantage alternates rule according to the law in order to realize the common advantage. Rule of law is an important means of political rule, but laws need to be helped by majority rule in terms of requiring human judgment because they have weaknesses in judging individual circumstances. It can be concluded that political rule must be achieved between equal freedoms, and the role of rule of law is important for this.

Thyroid tuberculosis with papillary thyroid carcinoma is very rare. The current study shows the case of a 67-year-old female who was admitted to Ansan Hospital of Korea University, with her thyroid nodules showing signs of malignancy under ultrasonography. A histopathological examination proved the coexistence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and thyroid tuberculosis (TB). A total thyroidectomy and excision of the enlarged left neck level II lymph node were performed. This report presents a rare case of coexistence of PTC and thyroid TB. Further investigation is needed to evaluate the possible role of PTC in thyroid mycobacterial infection.

Numerical investigations have been carried out to analyze flow field characteristics around manganese nodule mining device in deep sea. Flow field is largely affected by moving mining device. With the operation of the mining device complicated flow variation remarkably generated from the rear of mining device depends on moving speed of the mining device. Turbulent kinetic energy behind the mining device gradually increases with the velocity of mining device. The nodule particles behavior is also predicted.

실시간 지문 퍼지볼트 시스템의 VLSI 구조

The fingerprint information can cause serious problems when it has been compromised. Because it's a limited biometrics. Recently, there is an increasing study of the fuzzy fingerprint vault system to protect fingerprint information. The study on the problem of fingerprint alignment using geometric hashing technique carried out. This paper proposes a hardware architecture fuzzy fingerprint vault system based on geometric hashing. The proposed architecture consists of software and hardware module. The hardware module has charge of matching between enrollment hash table and verification hash table. We also propose the hardware architecture using parallel process for high-speed process of fuzzy fingerprint vault. Based on the experimental results, the execution time of the proposed system with 36 real minutiae is 0.24 second when 200 chaff minutiae, 0.53 second when 400 chaff minutiae. In the same condition, we confirmed that the proposed system using parallel process takes 0.01 second and 0.03 second, respectively.

UPLC를 활용한 데리스 추출물 함유 유기농자재 중 Rotenone과 Deguelin 정량분석

BACKGROUND: Three commercial biopesticides containing derris extract, which is permitted as a commercial biopesticide substances by the Environmentally-friendly Agriculture Promotion Act, have been marketed in Korea. But, the quantitative analytical method of active substances for crop protection in biopesticides containing derris extract has not known. METHODS AND RESULTS: Solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridge clean-up method for the quantitative analysis of rotenone and deguelin in biopesticides containing derris extract was developed and validated by ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC). The clean-up method was established using hydrophilic lipophilic balance (HLB) SPE cartridges for the bioactive substances in biopesticides containing derris extract, and the eluate was analyzed to quantify the rotenone and deguelin by the UPLC. LOQ and recovery rates of rotenone and deguelin were 0.085 and 0.044 mg/L, 95.7 and 93.3%, respectively. The content of rotenone and deguelin in three biopesticides containing derris extract were analyzed by the developed method, the results showed 0.001-0.236 and <LOQ-0.258%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The developed method could be applicable to determine the active substances and to control the quality of commercial biopesticide containing derris extract.
