Activation of phospholipase C (PLC) and consequent elevation of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP_3) level have been reported during ABA-induced closure of stomata. However, it is not known yet whether G-protein regulates the PLC activity during the process. We tested if G-protein is involved in ABA-induced stomatal closure, using pertussis toxin (PT_χ), which inactivates its substrate G-proteins, and cholera toxin, which activates its substrate G-proteins. PT_χ inhibited ABA-induced stomatal closure both in intact epidermal peels from abaxial surface of Commelina communis L. and in partially digested epidermal tissue of Vicia faba L., which contained only guard cells and no other epidermal cells. Cholera toxin did not show any of the effect. Moreover, PT_χ completely blocked ABA-induced elevation of IP_3 level in partially digested epidermal tissue of V. faba L.. These results indicate that PT_χ-sensitive, PLC-linked G-protein is involved in signal transduction process of ABA in guard cells.

The Greater Mekong Subregion(GMS) is a development project set by the Asian Development Bank in 1992. GMS`s countries consist of six countries near the Mekon g River basin, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the Yunnan Province of China. With assistance from the Asian Development Bank, the six countr ies entered into a program of subregional economic cooperation, designed to enhanc e economic relations among the countries. In particularly China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are the so-called transition countries. In the late 1980s, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar abandoned their centrally-planned, socialist models and began the transition to more open and market-oriented capitalist econom ies. China, Vietnam and Thailand have recently revised the Enterprise law. It significan tly improved the process for forming a new company. The Enterprise Law creates more transparent procedures for private businesses, significantly simplifies regulation s and procedures to start businesses, and moves from discretionary licensing to auto matic registration, by way of the implementation of a negative list of restricted or prohibited activities. However, the ambiguity in licensing and regulatory procedures impedes the daily work and growth opportunities of enterprises. Furthermore, the continued state domination of the national economy limits the opportunities for robu st private enterprise. Therefore, more comparative studies on the enterprise law of advanced industrial nations including Korea can be essential for the development of enterprise law in GMS`s countries.

The object of study is to investigate the performance comparison with falling film and pool boiling generator in absorption chiller as influenced by the types of the heating tubes. The absorbent and refrigerant flowing inside the generator are LiBr and water, respectively. The experiments were done based on a 55% absorbent concentration. In the experiments, the parameters are temperatures and flow rate at the inlet and outlet of the refrigerant and absorbent. A Labview program was used for the measurements. For the purposes of this study, the parameters in the falling film and pool boiling generator test are tested at the same experimental conditions, we tried to compare with and improve of the performance of falling film and pool boiling generator on some types of heating tubes.

N/A The allergic disease is characterized by hyperactivity of IgE-producing B cells against allergens. A high serum IgE has noted in T cell dysfunction that there may be an association between allergic disease and cell mediated immune deficiency. This study was performed to elucidate the roles of T lymphocyte (cell) in dust mite asthma and its immunotherapy. Lymphocyte proliferative responses and interleukin-2 production to mitogen (PHA, Con-A, PWM) or allergen (D. pteronyssinus, D. farinae) were measured in 15 normal children, 15 newly diagnosed dust mite asthma (new patients) and 15 dust mite asthma on immunotherapy for 18 months (immunotherapy patients). The results were as follows 1. Percent inhibitions of D. pteronyssinus and D. farinae were 90% and 88% in RAST inhibition test. 2. Lymphocyte proliferative responses to PHA or Con-A stimulation in new patients and immunotherapy patients were significantly decreased as compared to normal children (P<0.001). Between the patients, immunotherapy patients showed significant increased response to Con-A as compared to new patients (P<0.05). But there was no difference between normal children and patients in response to PWM stimulation. 3. Lymphocyte proliferative responses to D. pteronyssinus or D. farinae in new patients were significantly increased as compared to normal children and immunotherapy patients (P<0.001). 4. There was no difference among normal children, new patients and immunotherapy patients in the production of interleukin-2 to mitogen (PHA). But interleukin-2 production to D. pteronyssinus in new patients were significantly increased as compared to normal children and immunotherapy patients (P<0.01). In conclusion, new patients showed a decreased T cell function and increased helper T cell hypersensitivity to allergen. Immunotherapy restored the deficient T cell function and diminished the helper T cell hypersensitivity to allergen. This suggests that cell mediated immunity is involved in the pathogenesis of allergic disease and the mechanisms of immunotherapy.
