        바이오테크 기업의 기술영역 변화와 제약회사와의 전략적 제휴

        This study investigates whether a change in technology scope affects the likelihood to establish repeated alliance formation between small and medium sized biotechnology firms and large, established pharmaceutical companies in the U.S. biotechnology sector. To address this question, we employ the organizational identity literature, which has recently drawn attention in organizational sociology and economic sociology. We conceptualize the repeated tie formation between a pair of organizations with an existing tie as an event when an audience organization-an established pharmaceutical company in our study-decides to re-partner with the candidate organization-a biotech venture in our study-based on the signal that the audience organization receives from its existing partner. In this study, we consider technological identity (i.e. technology scope) as an important evaluative dimension. We suggest that the audience organization is likely to penalize the candidate organization with an incoherent technological identity by deciding not to establish a repeated relationship. The main research question of this study is as follows: To what extent a change in technology scope of a biotechnology firm influences the likelihood of the repeated alliance formation with an established pharmaceutical firm? We also examine the moderating effect of technological status on the main effect (the relationship between a change in technology scope and the repeated alliance formation with an existing partner). Specifically, we propose the following hypotheses: H 1: Peripheral changes in the technology scope of a biotechnology firm have no significant impact upon the likelihood of repeated ties between the biotechnology firm and an incumbent pharmaceutical firm. H 2: The likelihood of repeated ties between a biotechnology firm and an incumbent pharmaceutical firm is negatively related to the core changes in the technology scope of the biotechnology firm. H 3a: The negative effect of the core changes in the technology scope of a biotechnology firm on the likelihood of repeated ties with an incumbent pharmaceutical firm is weaker for the biotechnology firm with higher technological status (the greater the status of the technology that the biotechnology firm has). H 3b: The negative effect of the core changes in the technology scope of a biotechnology on the likelihood of repeated ties with an incumbent pharmaceutical firm is stronger for the biotechnology firm with higher technological status (the greater the status of the technology that the biotechnology firm has). To examine the above hypotheses, we use data of alliance relationships between large, established pharmaceutical companies and small and medium-sized biotechnology firms over a five-year period. Focusing on the partnership formed between biotechnology firms and established pharmaceutical firms as the unit of analysis, we examine whether a change in the coherent technological identity of a candidate biotechnology company influences the probability of repeated alliance formation. Using event history analysis, we find support for the negative effect of technology scope change of a biotechnology firm on the likelihood of the repeated partnership. We also find that the negative effect of major technology scope change of a biotechnology firm on the likelihood of repeated ties is stronger if the biotechnology firm has higher technological status.

        해외자회사의 현지인 CEO 임명 결정요인에 관한 연구: 미국진출 한국 자회사를 중심으로

        본 논문은 해외자회사의 현지인 CEO 임명에 영향을 미치는 해외자회사 수준과 모기업 수준의 요인들을 밝혀 보고자 하였다. 2012년 현재 미국에 자회사를 보유한 245개의 한국 제조업 기업을 대상으로 현지인 CEO 임명 여부를 종속변수로 하여 실증분석을 수행한 결과, 자회사 수준의 변수들 중에서는 진입형태가 단독진입일 경우 현지인 CEO임명 가능성이 낮아지는 경향이 있으며, 현지인 고용비율이 높을수록 현지인 CEO 임명 가능성이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 모기업 수준의 요인들 중에서는, 모기업이 기업집단 소속일 경우, 그리고 자본규모가 클수록 현지인 CEO 임명 가능성이 높아지는 경향이 있으며, 부채규모가 커질수록 현지인 CEO 임명 가능성이 낮아진다는 것을 알 수 있었다. This study intends to find some antecedents factors at parent and subsidiary level on influencing subsidiary CEO nationality. To test hypotheses, we used the sample which consisted of 245 Korean manufacturing firms in the U.S. The empirical results employing logit regression model generally supported our arguments. We found that (1) wholly owned subsidiaries were less likely to appoint local CEOs than joint venture subsidiaries, (2) the higher level of hiring local employees had a positive effect on the possibility of appointment of local CEOs, (3) subsidiaries affiliated to business group were more likely to appoint local CEOs, (4) large amount of capital in parent companies was positively related to the possibility of appointment of local CEOs, (5) large amount of liabilities negatively influenced the possibility of appointment of local CEOs.

        피부 흑색종과 색소성 모반에서 Syndecan-2의 발현에 관한 면역조직화학적 연구

        Background: Melanoma is a malignant neoplasm originating from melanocytes. It has been recently suggested that syndecan-2 may contribute to the aggressive phenotype and metastatic potential of melanoma in cell line studies. However, there is no quantitative analysis of syndecan-2 expression using human melanoma tissue. Objective: This study aimed to examine the specific expression of syndecan-2 in human melanoma tissue. Methods: A total of 35 sections of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues were investigated for syndecan 2 expression using immunohistochemical staining. Also, a total of 6 tissues and two kinds of cell lines were analyzed by reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and western blot. Results: Immunohistochemical staining of 23 cases of melanoma tissue was done, and in 5 cases (21.7%), strong expression of syndecan-2 was seen. Also, syndecan-2 was detected in human melanoma tissue and MNT-1 melanoma cells by RT-PCR and western blot analysis. Conclusion: We suggest that syndecan-2 expression is increased in melanoma compared to nevus. The results of this study may help to explain the clinical features of melanoma and syndecan-2.         민감도 분석을 통한 주열식벽체가 저토피 토사터널 거동에 미치는 영향 분석

        최근 세계 여러 나라에서는 지하공간의 활용이 증가하고 있다. 특히, 저심도 굴착의 경우 대부분 개착식 굴착공법을 적용하는데, 극심한 교통 체증 및 인접구조물의 불안정 등의 문제가 발생될 수도 있다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해서 저토피 토사구간에서 충분한 안정성을 확보하고 공사기간을 최소화하며 터널을 굴착할 수 있는 M-CAM공법(Modified Cellular Arch Method)이 제안되었다. 본 연구에서는 M-CAM공법 적용 시 주열식 수직연속벽체(Continuous Pile Wall, CPW)의 규격 및 지반조건이 터널 거동에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 민감도분석을 수행하였다. 우선 터널의 안정성에 영향을 주는 매개변수로는 수직연속벽체의 근입깊이, 직경, 측압계수 그리고 지반상태를 선정하였다. 한편 수치해석을 위해서, 유한차분법에 기초를 둔 FLAC 2D가 이용되었다. 본 연구결과 수직연속벽체의 규격 중 근입깊이가 터널 안정성에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 것을 확인되었다. In recent years, utilization of underground space has been increasing in various parts of the world. In particular, open-cut method is usually applied to the shallow depth excavation. However some problems such as extreme traffic congestion and unstability of adjacent structures etc. might occur. In order to cope with these problems, the M-CAM (Modified Cellular Arch Method) method was proposed to excavate soil tunnels at shallow depth with secured enough stability and minimized construction period. In this study, sensitivity analysis was performed to predict the influence of the size of CPW(Continuous Pile Wall) and ground conditions on the behavior of the tunnel. First of all, embedded depth and diameter (or thickness) of CPW, coefficient of lateral earth pressure, and ground conditions were selected as parameters that could affect tunnel stability. Meanwhile, FLAC 2D based on finite difference method was used for numerical analysis. As a result of this study, it was checked out that embedded depth among sizes of CPW had a greatest influence on the stability of a tunnel.

        This paper discusses the standards for disaster prevention and safety management of rail tunnel. The purpose is to establish safety management standards and methods of disaster prevention for each underground traffic spaces, after the full revision of the cause of accidents and its effects, the function and selection of safety equipment, and the efficiency and convenience of maintenance, standards based on prevention and reduction is proposed to reaction to disaster.

        지식집약적 하이테크 산업에서의 인수합병을 통한 지식 이전에 관한 연구

        Viewing an M&A activity as an external knowledge sourcing mechanism, we investigate specific conditions under which knowledge transfer is facilitated from an acquired firm to an acquiring firm. Drawing on evolutionary economics, we develop hypotheses regarding effects of the acquiring firm’s technological capability, the acquiring firm’s acquisition-specific capability, its path dependence, similarity between the acquirer and the acquired firm in terms of the knowledge base, and technological relatedness between the acquirer and the acquired firm before acquisition. Focusing on M&As in the IT-based, knowledge-intensive industries, we examine these hypotheses empirically. In this study, using the Securities Data Corporation (SDC) data, we identify sample firms whose acquisition announcements were completed in high-tech industries, such as semiconductor, telecommunications, and computer equipment, in the U.S.A. during 1981-1993. We also used the U.S. patent citation data to trace knowledge building activities of acquirers based on the existing knowledge bases of acquired firms after specific acquisitions. Results from negative binomial regressions show that knowledge flow from the acquired firm to the acquiring firm is likely to increase and then decrease according to both the degree of the acquiring firm’s path dependence and the similarity between the two in terms of the knowledge base. Besides, knowledge flow from the acquiredli firm to the acquiring firm is likely to increase as the technological relatedness is higher before acquisition. These findings have some important implications. If a firm has yet to establish its own technological trajectories, then an acquisition can be used as an effective way to broaden its knowledge base. However, for a firm with a well-established technological path, the highly localized, path-dependent nature of learning may inhibit the acquirer’s sourcing of knowledge from the target, even if the firm undertakes an acquisition to source knowledge from the target. The inverted-U shaped relationship between the similarities in technological profiles and the extent to which knowledge flows from the target to the acquirer offers an important criterion for the selection of the right acquisition target.A contribution of this study is to examine some conditions under which an acquirer can extend the technological boundaries of its knowledge. Empirically, we believe that this is the first attempt to investigate when acquisitions indeed facilitate knowledge flows from the target to the acquirer in the high-tech sector.
