The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of heat treatment conditions of discs on the friction characteristics in the disc brake system. Test pieces are manufactured to apply different heat treatment conditions. It is observed physical properties and friction performance as thermal conductivity, hardness, tensile strength, coefficient of friction, fade, wear etc. The thermal conductivity of the unheat-treated disc is higher than that of heat-treated discs. In fade, the coefficient of friction of the unheat-treated disc is higher than that of heat-treated discs because of lower braking temperature.
