To apply the new joining methods to automotive joints, firstly, joint strength of new joining methods was tested by basic mechanical test methods which are tension, torsion, bending test, etc. And then characteristics of crushing of simple structures joined by new joining methods were evaluated by the crush test. In this paper, double hat-shaped members which consist of dissimilar materials with adhesively bonded, self-piercing riveted, and riv-bonded were tested on axial crush load. Fracture shape of joint part and absorbed energy of each joining method were concerned .

Automotive industries are now faced with demands which are improvement of fuel efficiency and reduction of<br/> environmental pollution. For the attainment of these demands, vehicles must be reduced the weight by the substitution of light-weight materials for steel. The change of material, however, causes an important problem with respect to the method of joining. In this paper, strength of several dissimilar materials joining methods such as adhesive bonding and self-piercing rivet was evaluated by performing lap test. And the paper deals with the fracture mode of the adhesive bonded and self-piercing riveted joints.

Applications of TWB(Tailor Welded Blanks) in automobile manufacturing have been developed since 1980s for both weight reduction and cost benefits. In this study, the automobile subframe applying mash-seam welded blanks was designed to remove reinforcements that were necessary in conventional subframe. For the design of mash-seam welded subframe, the characteristics of both the conventional subframe and the mash-seam welded subframe were analysed by crash and forming analysis. With these results of analyses, the prototype of automobile subframe was produced.<br/>
