The air-condition compressor applied to the vehicle is operated by belt assembly(assembly, ass’y) connected to engine crank pulley. The belt tension generated by the engine during driving is applied to the air-condition compressor pulley as a hub load. The hub load applied at this time reduces the life of the compressor pulley bearing, and the model of the bearing design life using this principle is the Palmgren"s model. However, the Palmgren"s model is a bearing life prediction model published in the 1950s, and ISO 281:1977 since 1970s proposed a bearing life model using correction factor, and it was revised a total in 3 times in 1990 and 2007. The proposed bearing life model in ISO standard is first determined by the viscoelasticity(viscosity) of the lubricant, and the life model using the correction factor is determined by the material which is the design factor of the bearing. We found that the relationship between bearing design life and bearing field claim ratio is very low for compressor applied by our company. Therefore, based on reliability life test, the life data is analyzed to derive correction factor and a bearing design life model is developed using the derived correction factor.
