이 글은 한국 사회학계에서 1970년대까지의 미국 현대 사회학이론(구조기능주의, 갈등론, 상징적 상호작용론, 교환이론, 현상학적 사회학, ethnomethodology) 수용이 어떤 흐름으로 전개됐는지를 관련 저작의 번역 출간을 통해 살펴본 것이다. 이는 번역이 외래학문의 수용 방식 중 하나라는 점에서 의의를 갖는다고 할 수 있다. 탐색의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이론 관련 저작 번역 출간이 양적으로도 많지 않을 뿐더러 대표적 저작이 미처 번역되지 않은 경우도 많다. 둘째, 대부분의 역서 출간 시기는 1970년대 말부터 1980년대 초반에 집중돼 있으나 최근 들어 다시 활성화되는 흐름이 나타나고 있다. 셋째, 특정 이론의 경우는 번역이 사회학 이외 분야의 역자에 의해 이루어지는 경향이 있다(특히 상징적 상호작용론이 그렇다). 넷째, 지속적으로 간행되지 않고 절판되어 시중에서 구할 수 없는 경우가 많다. Translation is one of the ways introducing studies from abroad. This article focuses on the translation of American contemporary sociological theory into Korean(from Parsons to the 1970s, including structural functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism, exchange theory, phenomenological sociology and ethnomethodology). First, just few translations has been published in Korea. The worse is that many of major works has not been translated yet. Second, most of translations has been published in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. However, it is noticeable that the number of publication seems to be revitalized recently. Third, some translations has not been conducted by sociologist(especially, symbolic interactionism). Fourth, translations published 20 or more years ago are just available in second-hand bookstores.
