This study analyzed the relationsbip between magnetic susceptibility and affecting elements in the submarine core sediments of 305 cm length, which were acquired at the ADPO1 site in the southern South Korea Plateau of the East Sea. 103 samples were gained from the core sediments for the magnetic experiment. Susceptibility distribution of core samples shows the range of 116.43~22.14μSI. The pattern of the susceptibility variation is proportionally related to that of intensity of natural remanent magnetization (NRM) before demagnetization. It is interpreted that grain size, secondary magnetization, and secondary minerals after deposition partly affected the susceptibility variation.

The purpose of this study is to propose teaching materials for geological fieldwork in Muju-gun, Jeonbuk, Korea. The sites of geological fieldwork are mainly located on famous and superb natural landscapes in the area. Sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks of the Muju Basin show distinct characters and structures on the site. The sedimentary succession of the Cretaceous Muju Basin shows a large-scale fining-upward trend of clastic rocks in the lower part and pyroclastic rocks in the upper part of the basin. The teaching materials for geological fieldwork consist of orbicular granitic gneiss, purple mudstone beds of floodplain environments, conglomerate beds of various origin, and others. Application of these materials to geological fieldwork will help students of the middle and high schools improve their self-directed learning and practical understanding of earth science.
