One of the most important safety requirements the CANDU Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube shall meet during its life time is a leak-be fore-break (LBB) criterion whose safety margin is governed by delayed hydride cracking velocity and fracture toughness. Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube used currently in CANDU reactors is very susceptible to delayed hydride cracking, causing many failures and replacements of pressure tubes. The objective of this study is to characterize the delayed hydride cracking of different pressure tubs such as CANDU and TMT-l. This study has reported the DHC characteristics of Zr-2.5Nb pressure tubes obtained using the qualified DHC test procedure set-up through the IAEA round robin test on DHC with curved compact toughness specimens. DHC velocities were measured and compared at temperature ranging from 144℃, 182℃ to 250℃. After DHC testing, fracture surface were investigated with a stereoscope. DHC velocities were increased with temperature and DHCV of TMT-I pressure tube was slower than that of CANDU pressure tube. And the effects of yield stress and texture on the DHCV were discussed.

This study was carried out to investigate the friction weldability of rapidly solidified Al2024/Al2O3. The experimental results are summarized as follow ; In case of Al2024, the tensile strength of friction welded joint is 201㎫ and hardness(Hv) is 141, under the condition of friction time is 1.0sec, upset pressure is 84㎫. In case of Al2024/Al2O3, the tensile strength is 202㎫ and hardness(Hv) is 188, under the condition of friction time is l.0sec, upset pressure is 76㎫. Although each material has non-weldability and not gas-removal-treated, joint efficiency is 60% either Al2024 or Al2024/Al20O3. This results shows that friction welding has better weldability than fusion welding.

The aim of his study is to investigate the effect of hydrogen embrittlement of Zr-2.5Nb CANDU pressure tube. The tests were performed at various of hydrogen contents for CCT specimens. The specimens were directly machined from the tube retaining original curvature using electric discharge machine. From the fracture toughness test, it was found that fracture toughness dJ/da was decreased with speedily increasing hydrogen content. And it observed constant value about 70-80ppm of hydrogen content. In fractography by SEM, we observed dimple fracture in AR materials, dimple and short fissure in 30ppm, and quesi-cleavage and large fissure in 80ppm. The decrease of fracture toughness with the addition of hydrogen is due the distribution of hydride and habit plane(10.7) of zirconium grain.

This study investigated closely into friction welding of carbon steels pipe(SPPS38) for piping in many fields of industrial, located a variable time, dealt with microstructure and mechanical characteristics. This study's view point was confidence limit in friction welding conditions, the obtained results were as follows. 1.In the friction time was 0.3sec, tensile strength was peak point in this study. The tensile stress was 747MPa, and this was 130% of base metal, when a friction welding condition is 2000rpm, friction pressure is 50MPa, upset pressure 100MPa, friction time is 0.3sec. 2.In friction welding with same conditions, the bending stress was 782MPa. that is 94% of base metal, also not cracked in weld interface about 90 degrees of bending test. 3.In microstructure of weld interface, very small pearlite and ferrite constructed on work at the highest level, like as in bar. And friction times is shortened in a pipe.

This study deals with the mechanical properties of welding part, by friction welding of SM45C steel rod and SWS41A yoke which have being used Steering-Joint. The experimental results are summrized as follows ; 1. When CO₂welding is replaced with friction welding, we can get benefit manufacture. 2. The result of tensile test showed the highest tensile strength of 612MPa(150% of base metal strength 402MPa). 3. The result of bending test showed the highest bending strength of 1066MPa(80% of base metal strength 1259MPa).
