A Case of dizziness treated with Singi-hwan is reported. Singi-hwan is an herbal formula historically used for Jing(精) deficiency in Traditional Korean Medicine and dizziness is a common symptom presented in patients with Jing(精) deficiency. An elderly patient diagnosed with senile dizziness was treated using Singi-hwan for ten consecutive days in Dunsan Oriental Hospital, and has shown positive outcome.
중풍환자에서 장기간의 한약과 양약의 병용투여가 간장 및 신장에 미치는 영향

Object : The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether herbal medication may injure the liver function and kidney function in stroke patients. Method : We observed the serum AST, ALT, r-GTP, Creatinine, BUN of 78 patient from May 1. 2008 to June 30. 2009 admitted in Oriental Hospital of Daejeon University. Liver function and Kidney function tests were done on admission and before discharge. And all patients take herbal medicine with Western medicine. Result : AST, ALT, r-GTP, Creatinine, BUN decreased on discharge compared with the value on admission. The liver function and kidney function test score(AST, ALT, r-GTP, Creatinine, BUN) by administration period of herbal medication was not significantly changed. Conclusion : This study suggests that general herbal medication does not injure liver function and kidney function of human.

In the literatual study on on the herb med and the medication of Resuscitation(蘇生術) of Jayaeksa(自縊死) and Yiksusa(溺水死), the results were as follows; 1. As the single herb medication, gesim(桂心), sesin(細辛), johyub, chongyub(蔥萊)), banha(半夏), yukge(肉桂) etc. were used. 2. The $s{\breve{o}}ng$(性) of used medicines is mainly $ons{\breve{o}ng$(溫性) and $yuls{\breve{o}}ng$(熱性), the mi(味) is sinmi(辛味). 3. The $gwigy{\breve{o}}$ng(歸經) is all most $simgy{\breve{o}}gn$(心經) and $pyegy{\breve{o}}ng$(肺經). 4. The efficacy is geopung(祛風), geosub(祛濕) and geodam(祛痰) 5. On the method of herb medication, In Jayaeksa(自縊死), Chuibub(吹法), Guanbub(觀法) were most used, and In Yiksusa(溺水死), Guanbub(觀法) was most used.
지백지황환가미(知柏地黃丸加味)가 monocrotaline으로 유발된 흰쥐의 고혈압 병태모델에 미치는 영향

This experiment was performed to determine the effect of Jibeakjihwanghwangami(JJHG) on hypertension in monocrotaline-induced hypertensive rats. The results obtained were as follows : 1. JJHG showed a safety in cytotoxicity and toxicity of liver. 2. JJHG showed scavenging activity on DPPH free radicals and SOD-like activity. 3. JJHG showed an inhibitory effect on ACE. 4. JJHG significantly decreased blood pressure and pulse in monocrotaline-induced hypertensive rats. 5. JJHG significantly decreased the levels of plasma aldosterone in monocrotaline-induced hypertensive rats. 6. JJHG significantly decreased the levels of potassium in monocrotaline-induced hypertensive rats. 7. JJHG significantly decreased the levels of uric acid. BUN, and creatinine in monocrotaline-induced hypertensive rats. These results suggest that JJHG might be effective in treatment and prevention of hypertension.
강지통맥음(降脂通脈飮)이 항산화 활성과 고지혈(高脂血) 유발(誘發) 백서(白鼠)에 미치는 영향(影響)

This experiments was performed to determine the effects of Gangzitongmaekeum(降脂通脈飮 : GTE) on antioxidation activity and hyperlipidemia induced by hypercholesterolemic diet in mice. The results obtained were as follows : 1. GTE showed a safety in cytotoxicity and toxicity of human fibroblast cells and liver. 2. GTE showed DPPH scavenging activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity and inhibitory effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS). 3. GTE treated mice showed body and liver weight decrease, compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 4. GTE decreased total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels significantly, but HDL cholesterol levels not significantly. 5. GTE decreased triglyceride levels significantly. 6. Glucose levels in GTE treated mice significantly decreased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 7. Albumin levels in GTE treated mice were similar with the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 8. The lipophagy in liver compared with the control group tended to be decreased in GTE treated mice. In the change of aorta, the cell was regular and boundary of vessel wall was clear, compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 9. TBARS levels in GTE treated mice significantly decreased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 10. The change of SOD and catalase activity significantly increased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 11. ACAT mRNA level and HMG-CoA reductase mRNA levels in GTE treated mice significantly decreased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. Conclusion : These results suggest that Gangzitongmaekeum is effective in antioxidation activity and dietary hyperlipidemia-induced mice.
가미옥녀전(加味玉女煎)이 고혈압백서(高血壓白鼠)의 혈압(血壓) 유관인자(有關因子)변화에 미치는 영향(影響)

Objective : This study was done to investigate the effect of Gamioknyeo-jeon (GOJ) on spontaneously hypertensive rats. Methods : Spontaneously hypertensive rats were sensitized and challenged with GOJ for 4 weeks. the experimental group was treated with 56.7mg/kg/day of GOJ orally while the control group was treated with 56.7mg/kg/day of normal saline instead. Results : 1. GOJ significantly showed safety against cytotoxicity and toxicity in the liver. 2. GOJ significantly decreased the heart rate and the blood pressure in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 3. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of aldosterone in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 4. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 5. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of potassium and chloride in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 6. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of uric acid, BUN and creatinine in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. Conclusion : These results suggest that GOJ might be useful in treatment of hypertension.
도담탕(導痰湯)이 뇌손상(腦損傷) 및 고혈압(高血壓)에 미치는 영향(影響)

Objective : This study was carried out to investigate the effects of DDT on the brain damage and hypertension. Methods : We observed the effect of Dodamtang(DDT) extract on KCN-induced coma, focal brain ischemia by MCA occlusion, cytotoxicity and protection of PC12 cells and B103 cells induced by amyloid ${\beta}$ protein(25-35). To prove the effect of DDT as a blood pressure depressant, we measured aldosterone, renin activity, catecholamine, sodium and NO density using the seperated blood plasma. Results : DDT showed a protective effect on cytotoxicity of PC12 cells and B103 cells induced by amyloid ${\beta}$ protein(25-35) in a dose dependent manner and proved the significant abridgement of brain ischemic area and edema induced by MCA occlusion, a critical decrease of neurologic deficitic grade in the fore-limbs. DDT didn't reduce the duration of KCN(1.87mg/kg iv.)-induced coma and prolonged the survival rate in the case of KCN(3.0mg/kg iv.)-induced coma by the ratio of 20%. While DDT increased the value of NO in SHR, it significantly decreased the blood pressure of SHR and the value of aldosterone& epinephrine in SHR. Conclusions : These results suggested that DDT might be usefully applied for treatment of hypertension, cerebral infarction, and brain damage.

This experiment was performed to determine the antihypertensive effect of Yangganhwadam-tang(YHT) on hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rat. The results obtained were as follows : 1. YHT showed scavenging activity on DPPH free radical and SOD-like activity. 2. YHT significantly decreased heart weight. 3. YHT significantly decreased blood pressure and pulse. 4. YHT significantly decreased the level of plasma aldosterone. 5. YHT significantly decreased the level of norepinephrine. 6. YHT significantly decreased the levels of potassium and calcium. 7. YHT significantly decreased the level of BUN. 8. YHT decreased eosinophilic changes in the heart cells, and dilated renal arterioles stenosis. These results suggest that YHT might be effective in treatment and prevention of hypertension.

Tremor is a rhythmic and involuntary muscular contraction characterized by oscillations of body parts. Tremor often accompanies neurological disorders associated with aging. Although the disorder is not life-threatening, it can be responsible for functional disability and interpersonal relationship problems. We have recently examined a number of tremor-patients. one of them was improved significantly through the herbal medicine (Yeokgansan-gamibang) and acupuncture, so we report it for the better treatment.
가미청열도담탕(加味淸熱導痰湯)이 DOCA-salt로 유발된 고혈압 백서에 미치는 영향

This study was done to investigate the effect of Gamichungyeoldodam-tang (GCDT) in DOCA-salt induced hypertensive rats. The results were obtained as follows : GCDT showed safety against cytotoxicity and toxicity in the liver and the kidney. GCDT showed an inhibitory effect on ACE. GCDT significantly decreased the heart rate and the blood pressure in DOCA-salt induced hypertensive rats. GCDT significantly decreased the levels of aldosterone in DOCA-salt induced hypertensive rats. GCDT significantly decreased the levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine in DOCA-salt induced hypertensive rats. GCDT significantly decreased the levels of chloride in DOCA-salt induced hypertensive rats. These results suggest that GCDT might be effective in treatment of hypertension.
