Effects of 2,6-pyridinedimethanol as the cathode buffer layer on the photovoltaic properties

2,6-pyridinedimethanol (Py-diOH) is applied to the cathode interlayer in inverted polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on the blend of PTB7: PC71BM. A layer of Py-diOH generates a favorable interface dipole at the cathode interface. The power conversion efficiency of the devices with the interlayer reaches up to 7.44% with a Jsc of 14.65 mA/㎠, a Voc of 0.71 V, and a FF of 67.9%, respectively The PCE of the device with Py-2OH is very similar to that of the device with ZnO as the electron collection layer. It is possible to obtain high efficiency PSCs without any high temperature heat treatment.

Conjugate polymers are now considered as a very important class of photoactive materials. Conjugated oligomer is one of the potential materials which is very interesting to be studied. However, the research on the conjugated oligomer still remains limited because both the chemical and electrochemical syntheses resulted in products poor solubility. A series of pentamers are synthesized with a structure of acceptor-donor-acceptor based on benzothiadiazole. In this research, we present the synthesis, optical, electrical properties, and their application of solar cells.

The charge injecting/collecting properties are related to the interfacial properties between the semiconducting layer and the cathode or the anode. Conjugated polymer electrolytes, alcohol-soluble neutral conjugated polymers have been mainly applied to the solution processable cathode interface layer of organic electronic devices. In this presentation, new type of interfacial layer material based on zwitterionic poly(4-vinylpyridine) derivative for the applications in organic solar cells will be introduced. Also, we will present the effect of the zwitterionic poly(4-vinylpyridine) derivative on the photovoltaic properties.

conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPEs) are generally known to modify the work function of electrode due to induced interfacial dipole at the interfaces. Another role of CPEs, we suggest that the effect of conformation of CPEs on the performances. To compare the effect of conformation, we polymerized CPEs, salts of which are sequence or alternate on the end of side chain in same backbone. And we fabricated PSCs based on CPEs to investigate an influence of conformation. In this presentation, we will discuss the effect of conformation of CPEs on the device performances of photovoltaic devices.
Small-Molecules Electrolytes as an Interfacial layer in Polymer Solar Cells

To enhance the efficiency of polymer solar cells (PSCs), applying for electrolytes as an interfacial layer has been extensively studied in recently. In our study, it has been reported that using synthetic compounds called C-4 and C-6 as an interfacial layer can improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs. These interfacial layers can reduce work function of the cathode, contact resistance and improve the performance of PSCs. Herein, we investigate the photovoltaic properties of PSCs with C-4 and C-6 as an interfacial layer.

In order to improve the performances of polymer solar cells (PSCs), introducing a buffer layer between the ZnO layer and the active layer has been extensively studied in recently. In our research, it has been reported that introduction of pyridine derivatives as a buffer layer can enhance the power conversion efficiency of PSCs. In this study, we introduce a series of pyridine derivatives with hydroxide substituted different position. These positions have different dipole effect which affect to modify work function of the cathode and reduce energy barrier at the interfaces between the cathode treated ZnO and active layer. Herein, the effect of dipole effect on the performance of PSC will be discussed.
