        It is well known that the rhizosphere microbial communities are closely associated with plant roots. The rhizosphere microbiota can be harmful or beneficial to the host plants. In this study, to know whether pathogen-caused plant diseases would lead changes of rhizosphere microbiota or not, pathogenic bacteria were added to the plants through leaf stomata and the soils to induce the diseases and the rhizosphere microbial communities were analyzed using multiplex sequencing. The plant pathogen Xanthomonas euvesicatoria 173-1 causing bacterial spots was applied to Korean chili peppers (Capsicum annuum) and the plant pathogen Erwinia carotovora SCC1 causing bacterial soft rot was applied to Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa). The pot soils were collected before and after the pathogen applications and disease occurrences and analyzed for v4 region of bacterial 16S rRNA gene using Illumina iSeq 100 system. In the bacterial spot disease peppers, soil bacterial diversity was larger than in the normal pepper soils in terms of both species richness and evenness. Although it was not easy to indicate the responsible taxa for the differentiation, the communities were found to have diverged in both the cases of the control and disease plants, supported by NMDS and PCoA analyses on distance metrics of the communities. From the Chinese cabbage soils, there was less differentiation of microbiota between the normal and disease plants, than in the pepper soils. In the further study, it would be also interesting to investigate the important factors for divergence of results between pepper and cabbage.

        당뇨 발 환자의 골수염 진단에 있어서 골 주사 검사의 유용성

        Objectives: To validate usefulness of the three phase bone scan for the diagnosis of osteomyelitis in the diabetic foot with soft tissue inflammation. Materials and Methods: Fourteen diabetic feet with soft tissue inflammation were included in this study. We took the bone biopsy from the site of hot uptake on the three phase bone scan but no abnormal findings on the plain radiographs. We observed whether the bone has evidence of osteomyelitis on the patholgic findings such as inflammatory cell infiltration within bone, dead bone, new bone formation and fibrosis. Results: Thirteen of fourteen cases (92.8%) were compatible with osteomyelitis on the pathologic criteria. Inflammatory cell infiltration within bone was observed in thirteen cases, dead bone in twelve cases. new bone formation in four cases. fibrosis in eight cases. All of the four findings were observed in three cases. Conclusion: In the diabetic foot with soft tissue inflammation, the osteomyelitis should be included in differential diagnosis if the lesion reveals increased uptake on three phase bone scan, even though the lesion does not show any abnormal findings on the plain radiographs.

      • 논 토양에서의 Anammox 세균 특이 유전자의 수직 분포

        Feammox [anaerobic ammonium oxidation coupled to iron(III) reduction] has been known recently as a newly discovered nitrogen cycling process and contributes to nitrogen loss in various environments such as terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem. In this study, we intended to acquire clues for potential anammox and/or feammox activities from paddy soils by analyzing anammox and Fe(III) reduction-relevant genes, microbial communities, and geochemical parameters important to anammox. Rice paddy soil samples were collected from 4 depths using a soil sampling hand auger. In the deepest soils of L4 (41.5-59.5 cm), hydrochloric acid (0.5 N) extractable Fe(II) was found to be highest among the 4 depths, indicating formation of anaerobic condition. Nitrate was not detected from all the depths, suggesting that denitrification was possibly spread throughout the studied depth. Quantitative PCR on hzsA gene and mtrA gene showed that abundance of Fe(II) reduction-related mtrA gene increased along with the soil depth and the relatively high hzsA gene ratio versus 16S rRNA gene was correlated with the low concentration of NH<sub>4</sub> <sup>+</sup> in L3 soils, indicating possible anammox activity. Amplicon sequencing analysis using` Illumina iSeq 100 on v4 region of 16S rRNA gene indicated that relatively higher abundance of Planctomycetes phylum in L4 than other depths. From the analytical results, it seems that there are clues for anammox and/or feammox reactions in rice paddy soils, and there needs to be further investigation.

        담낭의 수질외 형질세포종: 1예 보고$^1$

        수질외 형질세포종 중에서 담낭에 발생한 예는 매우 드물어 세계적으로 1예만 보고되어 있고, 국내에는 아직 보고된 바가 없다. 저자들은 63세 남자 환자에서 상복부 초음파검사와 복부 전산화단층촬영에서 담낭의 팽창이나 주변조직으로 침범이 없는 미만성 담낭벽비후의 소견을 보였고, 수술로 확진된 수질외 형질세포종을 경험하였기에 보고한다. Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the gallbladder is extremely rare. A review of the literature in English revealed only one case, involving a patient with initial extramedullary plasmacytoma of the maxillary sinus. In this report, we describe the case of a 63-year-old man with surgically confirmed extramedullary plasmacytoma confined to the gallbladder. At ultrasonography and computed tomography, diffuse and uniform thickening of the gallbladder wall without evidence of surrounding tissue infiltration was depicted.

        As the interest in environment protection and energy saving, electric water pumps which supply coolant to internal combustion engines take center stage in automobile industry. The canned type electric water pump without mechanical sealing elements has several advantages due to high cooling effect and so on. In this study, the thermal characteristics of the canned type water pump were investigated using numerical analysis method. Cooling performance of the canned type electric water pump"s motor and inverter were evaluated by comparison with mechanical seal type. Canned type water pumps of variable materials were compared for the evaluation of thermal transfer performance as can"s variable thermal conductivity. In the result, motor and inverter can be cooled by up to 30 ~ 40℃ is possible as can"s thermal conductivity. Also, simulated results were compared with experimental results and the error was within 5℃.

        An electric water pump for engine cooling system has an advantage which particularly in the cold start, the use of the electric water pump saves fuel and leads to a corresponding reduction in emissions. The canned type electric water pump without mechanical sealing elements was selected to meet the requirements for operational reliability and life. However, the electric water pump for internal combustion engine generates much more heat loss than for hybrid electric vehicle since it is operated by the electric power of high current and low voltage. In this study, the fluid flow and thermal characteristics of the canned type electric water pump as an inverter integrated water pump has been investigated under the effects of heat generation. The analysis conditions such as outdoor air temperature of 125℃, water pump speed of 6000 rpm, coolant temperature of 106℃ and coolant flow rate of 120 lpm was used as a standard condition. Therefore, flow fields and temperature distribution inside the water pump were obtained. Also, we checked the feasibility of the canned type electric water pump for engine cooling system.

        경피전기신경자극의 동통억제효과에 대한 실험적 연구

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of electrical anesthesia induced by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation on inhibition of the pain response evoked by noxious electrical stimuli in teeth and gingiva. The experiment was carried out on anesthetized dogs. Left digastric muscle was exposed and wire electrodes were inserted into the muscles to record E.M.G.. Bipolar stimulating electrodes were inserted into the tooth of canine and the palatal area of gingiva. Noxious electrical stimuli were delivered to the tooth and the gingiva by electric stimulator(GrassTM, USA) under electronic anesthesia induced by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation device with frequency of 50㎐. The E.M.G. of jaw opening reflex at digastric muscle was measured by the osciloscope and the audiometer connected to amplifier(A-M system, 1700, USA) at different intensity of electronic anesthesia of 1 volt, 4 volt, and 10 volt. The pain threshold and the inhibitory rate of pain via E.M.G. of digastric muscle were analysed statistically with paired t-test adn χ2-test. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation with intensity of 1 volt and 4 volt increased the pain threshold 9.4% and 18.6% in teeth and 14.3% and 32.1% in gingiva respectively, but that of 10 volt did not change or reduce the pain threshold. 2. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation with intensity of 1 volt, 4 volt, and 10 volt showed the inhibitory effect of pain of 10.5%, 15.0% and 4.6% in teeth, and 18.2%, 23.4%, and 19.3% in gingiva respectively when noxious electrical stimulation was inserted 1.5 times higher than the pain threshold. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation with intensity of 10 volt did not show inhibitory effect of the pain response as that of 1 volt and 4 volt. 3. The pain threshold in gingiva was increased higher by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation than it was in teeth, and the inhibitory effect of the pain in gingiva was also increased higher than it was in teeth. In regard to above results, inhibitory effects of pain induced by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation was not so high as to replace the role of drug anesthesia wholly. The technique of reducing pain induced by transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation itself, was needed to develop to have better anesthetic or analgesic effect and less discomfort during anesthetic procedure.

        전기침이 구강동통에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        The effects of electro-acupuncture on the pain threshold and the amplitude of dEMG(digastric EMG) evoked by the noxious electric stimulation on teeth and gingiva in dogs were studied. Experiments were carried out with 10 dogs weighing 5-8kg. Each animal was anestheticed with Entobar given intraperitoneally in an initial dose of 30㎎/㎏. Maintenance dose of 5㎎/㎏/hr was given through a cannula, in the femoral vein, as required to keep up light anesthesia. Bipolar stimulating wire electrodes, 0.1mm in diameter, insulated except for tips, were inserted into the upper canine and palatal gingiva. Rectangular aluminium plate electrodes (15×5mm) were placed on acupuncture points, called Yin-Hsiang, located at both sides of the upper jaw. Rectangular biphasic current pulses of 2Hz, with a 250μsec duration,were delivered for 15 minutes. The dEMG activities were recorded from the anterior belly of the digastric muscle(one of the jaw opening muscles) using bipolar wire electrodes. The magnitude of the jaw opening reflex at different intensties of electro-acupuncture(1volt 4volt and 10volt) was estimated by averaging the 30 superimposed dEMGs recorded on an oscilloscope and audiomonitor. Data were analysed statistically with ANOVA and paired t-test. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Pain thresholds were increased 7.7%, 15.4%, 17.3% in the teeth and 11.1%, 19.0%, 25.4% in the gingiva as the intensities of electro-acupuncture increased incrementally. 2. Amplitudes of dEMG were decreaed 8.3%, 22.4%, 27.4% in the teeth and 9.8%, 36.5%, 42.2% in the gingiva as the intensities of electro-acupuncture increased incrementally. 3. Inhibition of pain responses by the electroacupuncture was more effective in the gingiva than in the teeth.
