        초등학생 단기 영어캠프가 영어학습 전략에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of short term English camp on students' English language learning strategies. The subjects were 65 students who participated in a one week(5 nights 6 days) English camp which was held in a regional university, financially supported by the regional government. The data was collected by having students answer the questionnaires based on Oxford's Strategy Inventory for Language Learning(SILL) before and after the camp. The results show that students are using compensatory strategies for overcoming limitations when communicating, more than any other strategies. Meta-cognitive strategies are used for future planning and centering one's own learning. But the research also indicates that students are not implementing other strategies such as memory strategies and cognitive strategies related to direct language learning. This means that the one week camp was successful in improving communication ability and motivating English language learning, but the camp period was not long enough to improve their direct learning strategies, in comparison to the result of three-week program.

        읽기 학습 부진아에 대한 초등 영어 멘토링 사례연구

        The purpose of this study is to analyse the effects of mentoring for students who have limited English reading abilities. 7 university students and 28 6th and 5th grade elementary students were selected for this study. Most of the children were not fully aware of the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. They were not interested in learning English and resisted using an English text book. It was even very hard to motivate them to attend the classes. The mentors met them once a week, two hours every day for 20 weeks. They kept a log of teacher reflections and student observations. A researcher met them once a week to discuss problems and help them prepare the lessons. The results showed that children improved their reading abilities as they became more phonologically aware and were motivated to study more. A small effort of preparing snacks motivated them to come to the classes, which resulted in learning more. This study suggests that the one to one, carefully attended teaching with phonological awareness, and warm attention will be necessary to teach students with limited English reading abilities.

        영어캠프를 통한 몰입 교육 효과와 적용방안 연구

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the English camp immersion program which was implemented for 4 years from 2005 to 2008 during the summer and winter vacations. The results indicate that students showed high levels of interest and understanding overall on learning subject matters, although there were slight differences according to the native teachers. Students' reflection papers showed that they were curious about learning subject matters in English, and felt that it was easier to understand the teachers' English-only instruction, and that they liked their teachers' teaching style. Successful teachers were well prepared, introduced various activities to their students, had enthusiasm on teaching itself, and had deep affection toward the students. This study concludes that English camp can be one effective way of applying immersion programs to elementary school students who are otherwise alienated from the benefits of receiving immersion education.

        유아기 영어교사 근무 실태조사: 충북지역을 중심으로

        Despite the Ministry of Education's policy, early childhood English education has been widely conducted among private kindergartens and in private English Education agencies. Although there are a great number of English teachers who are teaching English to young children, few research has been done about their working conditions. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the working conditions of early childhood English teachers, to determine the problems that they are facing in the education field, and to find out the possible solutions to improve their working conditions. Sixty-seven teachers answered the survey. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were done. This research found that teachers have difficulties in attracting children's attention when they teach English in the classroom, and in developing appropriate teaching techniques. It also found that their working conditions were not good enough to keep them doing this job. In spite of poor conditions, they are proud to be teachers. It was found that the subjects wished to have a medical insurance, a secured income, and to be free from extra teaching activities, such as textbooks sales and collecting monthly fees. They would like to have an opportunity to learn new teaching techniques through in-service teacher training. They also insisted that the Ministry of Education should face the current situation by giving them a chance to become certified teachers.

        초등학교 과학 교과서의 이독성 연구

        The purpose of this study is to devise a new method for examining the readabilities of textbooks and to compare the readabilities of elementary school science textbooks. Third and sixth grade science textbooks were compared in terms of word, sentence, and paragraph in this study. In the word analyses, criterion suggested by Kim (2003) who classified about 238,000 words into seven categories according to their educational importances was adopted. In this study, the words from 3rd and 6th grade science textbooks were classified into four categories, and then the kinds and frequencies of words in each category were investigated. In the sentence analyses, sentences were classified either a simple sentence or a compound/complex sentence, and the ratios of each type were calculated. The average number of words in a sentence was also calculated in the sentence analyses. The ratios of conjunctions and demonstratives were examined in the paragraph analyses. The results indicated that both the kinds and frequencies of words in 3rd grade science textbook were smaller than those of 6th grade one. However, both science textbooks were similar in the distributions of words across the four categories. The ratio of simple sentences in 3rd grade science textbook was higher than that of 6th grade one, and the length of a sentence in 3rd grade science textbook was also shorter than that of 6th grade one. Both the ratios of conjunctions and demonstratives in 3rd grade science textbook were lower than those of 6th grade one.

        수혜대상자와의 공간적 거리와 사회적 거리에 따른 기부광고 메시지유형별 효과

        최근 기부문화의 확산과 함께 비영리 기부단체들의 광고경쟁이 치열하다. 하지만 대부분의 기부광고가 수혜대상자들의 열악한 환경을 제시하고 광고수용자들의 연민에 호소하는 내용을 담는 데 그치고 있다. 기부행동은 자신의 물적 자산을 타인을 위해 사용하는 특수한 소비상황이라는 점에서, 본 연구는 광고수용자-수혜대상자 간 관계에 주목했다. 특히, 기부활동 지역에 대한 공간적 거리 인식이 광고수용자와 수혜대상자 간의 사회적 거리에 영향을 미칠 것으로 보았다. 해석수준이론을 토대로, 광고수용자가 자신과 수혜대상자 간의 사회적 거리를 가깝게 느낄수록 구체적 메시지가, 멀게 느낄수록 추상적 메시지가 더 높은 광고효과를 가져올 것으로 예상하였다. 연구는 온라인 서베이로 진행되었으며 사회적 거리(먼 vs. 가까운) × 메시지 유형(구체적 vs. 추상적)의 2×2 집단 간 요인으로 설계했고, 광고태도, 기부태도, 기부의도를 종속변인으로 설정했다. 서울 및 수도권에 거주하는 20~30대 207명을 대상으로 4가지 광고 실험물을 무작위로 제시하였으며 가설검증을 위해 t-test와 이원변량분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 공간적 거리는 광고수용자가 느끼는 수혜대상자와의 사회적 거리감에 영향을 주는 것으로 확인되었다. 즉, 수혜대상자의 거주지역이 국내일 때 사회적 거리를 가깝게, 해외일 때는 사회적 거리를 멀게 지각하는 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 거리감과 메시지 유형 간 상호작용 효과는 광고태도를 제외하고 기부태도와 기부의도에서만 유의미한 영향이 확인되었다. 광고태도는 사회적 거리의 멀고 가까움과 무관하게 추상적 메시지보다 구체적 메시지에서 더 높게 나타났다. 반면 기부태도와 기부의도는 수혜대상자와의 사회적 거리를 가깝게 지각할 때는 구체적 메시지가, 멀게 지각할 때는 추상적 메시지가 더 높은 기부태도, 기부의도를 보였다. 이러한 연구결과는 광고수용자에게 있어서 기부광고 속 수혜대상자가 내집단인지 외집단인지에 따라 적절한 설득메시지를 제시하는 것이 기부행동을 이끌어 내는 데에 효과적인 전략이 될 수 있음을 시사한다. This study was conducted to suggest an effective message strategy for donation advertising. Because donation behavior is exceptional consumption situation in which one s physical assets are used for others, this study is focused on the relationship between advertising audiences and beneficiaries. Recently, there has been a surge in international non-profit organizations and the scope of beneficiaries has expanded from domestic to overseas. So it was expected that the perception of spatial distance in the donation area affects the social distance. Based on construal level theory, advertising audiences s preference for message types can make a difference depending on the perception of social distance. To examine the attitude towards advertisement, donation attitude, and donation intention depending on social distance and message type, the experiment was in 2 levels of social distance(close vs. far) by 2 levels of message type(concrete vs. abstract) between-subjects design. First, the spatial distance affects the perception of social distance from the beneficiaries felt by advertising audiences(study 1). Advertising audiences felt social distance close to(far from) domestic(overseas) beneficiaries. Second, there is no interaction effect of social distance and message type on attitude towards advertisement. attitude towards advertisement is higher in concrete message than in abstract message, regardless of social distance(study 2). In contrast, the interaction effect of social distance and message type was confirmed as statistically significant on donation attitude and donation intention(study 3, 4). To be specific, when social distance is close, donation attitude and donation intention of the advertisement using concrete message was higher than in case of far social distance. In case social distance is far, however, donation attitude and donation intention of the advertisement using abstract message tend to be higher than those of close social distance. These findings suggest practical implications for the message strategy of donation advertisement in order to enhance donation behavior. It is suggested that appropriate persuasion message is different depending on whether the donation area is domestic or overseas.

      • 교양 토익의 온라인 병행학습 효과

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of on-line assisted learning in TOEIC as a university practical English program. Two English classes were selected; the experiment class with 40 students and the control class with 43 students. The on-line assisted TOEIC program was taught to the experiment class for 15 weeks and traditional TOEIC program was taught to the control class for the same period. To achieve this purpose three questions were asked. 1. Does this program improve students’ TOEIC score? 2. Does this program meet students’ satisfaction? 3. How can we apply this program effectively? To answer the first question, pre and post mock test were conducted to the experiment class and the control class at the same time. As a result, the average improvement score of the experiment class showed it was higher than that of the control class. Moreover, more students of the experiment class got high scores ranging from 600 to 800 than the control class. Thus the on-line assisted TOEIC program proved to be effective for students to increase their TOEIC score. To answer the second question, the survey was conducted to the experiment class and the students’ feedback was collected four times. The result of the survey showed that the students were not very satisfied with the program because of the large amount of the home work and the quality of on-line lectures. To answer the third question, students feedback for the improvement of the program was analyzed. As a result, followings can be suggested. 1. Clear evaluation methods should be presented to the students at the beginning of the lesson and should be maintained to the last lesson. 2. The amount of homework should be adjusted so that it can be done easily in the short term. 3. The video lectures should be improved technically so the students can select what they want. 4. The teacher should be concerned about the students’ progress and encourage them continuously in the class.
