In this experiment, suspension polymerization of styrene using PVA(polyvinyl alcohol) as suspension stabilizer and benzoyl peroxide as initiator was carried out with various polymerization variables. Particle size of 10 ㎛was prepared and was influenced by compounding ratios, mixing speed and PVA concentration. The average particle diameter decreased with mixing speed. Scanning electron micrographs indicated that encapsulation was well formed by the suspension polymerization when the ratio of artificial marble waste materials to the monomer was 1:4. In pilot test, the poly microgels with the size of 1-3 ㎛were obtained.
