의학전문대학원 학생들의 학업성취도 분석 - 개인적 특성 및 입학전형요소를 중심으로 -

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the academic achievement of the first year medical students at Gachon University of Medicine and Science based on their characteristics (i.e. age, gender, and academic degree types (bachelors/masters), field of major (biology/ non-biology), and admission variables (i.e. MEET, GPA, attitude, interview, and English test). Methods: The admission scores and demographic information were obtained from 39 students who had entered the university in 2005. T-test was used to examine the differences in academic achievement according to the students characteristics. Correlations between admission variables and academic achievements were examined while multiple regression analysis was used to decipher the influence of students characteristics and admission variables on the academic achievements. Results: This study showed that the academic achievements differed significantly depending on degree level, age, and field of study, but not gender. It was also found that both the Nature Science Reasoning (NSR) of MEET subscale score and GPA score correlated significantly with academic achievement in the first year students. Attitude, interview, and English test scores did not correlate significantly. The result of the multiple regression analysis revealed that NSR 1 and 2, field of major, and age accounted for a substantial amount of the variance in academic achievement. Conclusion: Students with higher scores in NSR 1 and 2 who majored in biology-related fieldsand who are younger tend to do better academically in their first year of medical school. The results of this study may be helpful to graduate medical schools in designing effective admissions strategies for recruiting students, as well as, in planning the curriculum to improve the academic achievements of medical students.

Wilson's disease presenting as fulminant hepatic failure is a rare and poorly recognized disorder. When Kayser-Fleischer ring is absent and liver biopsy cannot be performed, the patient may not be diagnosed and treated specifically. But it is crucial that the entity of fulminant Wilsonian hepatitis be clinically recognized because of its uniformly fatal outcome if liver transp]antation is not performed in a timely fashion. We present herein the case of a 16-year-old gir] with fulrninant Wilsonian hepatitis. She was admitted to the hospital with clinical features of fulminant hepatic failure, and showed characteristic biochemical profiles of fulminant Wilsonian hepatitis and Coombs negative hemolytic anemia. She was treated with liver transplantation successfully, and confirmed by histopathologic finding and measurement of hepatic copper concentration. We discuss the importance of fulminant Wilsonian in the differential diagnosis of fulminant hepatic failure. (Korean J Gastroenterol 1996; 28:292 - 297)

Doxazosin은 알파아드레날린길항제의 대표적인 약으로 전립선비대증에 아주 흔하게 사용되고 있다. 비슷하게 사용되는 finasteride, dutasteride와 같은 5-알파환원효소억제제는 여성형유방증, 유방통과 같은 부작용이 흔하게 보고되고 있으나 알파아드레날린길항제는 보고된 바가 국내에 아직 없다. 또한 알파아드레날린길항제는 약리 기전으로 보아 그러한 부작용을 의심하는 것이 쉽지 않다. 이에 doxazosin 사용 후 일측성의 여성형유방증과 유방통이 발생한 1예를 경험하였기에 국내 첫 번째 사례로 보고하는 바이다. Doxazosin is an adrenergic alpha-1 receptor antagonist used to treat lower urinary tract symptoms that are common in prostatic hyperplasia. To our knowledge, few cases of gynecomastia and mastodynia, as a complication of adrenergic alpha-1 receptor antagonist, have been reported to date; no cases have been reported in Korea. We describe a case involving a 78-year-old man treated for prostatic hyperplasia with 13 months of doxazosin. He complained about unilateral gynecomstia and mastodynia. Five months after the discontinuation of doxazosin, the gynecomastia was significantly improved. This is the first reported case of gynecomastia and mastodynia associated with doxazosin use in Korea. (+)-Methamphetamine (METH) is a psychostimulant, which has been the most popular abused drug in Korea. The rewarding mechanism in METH abuse has been reported to be mediated by dopaminergic system. Recently, it has been reported that dopamine releaser (phentermine) plays a dominant role in the discriminative stimulus effects of METH, whereas 5-HT releaser (fenfluramine) can strongly modify METH selfadministration. The present study is designed to assess the behavioral changes and the changes of the serotonin receptors in the brains of rats administered repeated or self-administered METH. The repeated administration of 1.0 ㎎/㎏/day METH for 12 days increased locomotor activities, and there was no difference between i.v. and i.p. treatment. Rats had actively acquired METH self-administration for 3 weeks at 0.1 or 0.2 mg/kg/injection. Whereas, it was taken few days to acquire sucrose pellet self-administration. The binding of [³H]-8-hydroxy-DPAT (5-HT_(1A) receptors) and [³H]-5-carboxytryptamine (5-HT_(1B) receptors) to brain sections was examined. Both passive administration and self-administration of METH did not change significantly the serotonin receptors levels in hippocampus, striatum and nucleus accumbens. These results suggest that serotonin receptors may not change in the acquisition period of METH self-administration, and we are trying to investigate the serotonin receptors levels of brain in rats maintained of METH self-administration.
