The klystron-modulator(K&M) system of the Pohang Light Source(PLS) had been supplying high power microwaves for the acceleration of 2.5 GeV electron beams since October 2002. There are 12 sets of K&M systems to accelerate electron beams to 2.5GeV nominal beam energy. One module of the K&M system consists of an 80 MW S-band (2856 MHZ) klystron tube and the matching 200 MW modulator. In order to obtain electron beam of the consequently stability for linac, the pulse-to-pulse beam voltage regulation is less than +/- 0.5 %. To get the reliable stability of the modulator which is less than +/- 0.5 %, a charging section is improved in a modulator which has been operated with inverter power supply.

This paper describes a dynamic UPS system with flywheel energy storage element. There are three operating modes of charging, voltage compensation, and UPS. The operating principle of each mode is analyzed and simulated. The simulation results show the validity of the operation of the proposed scheme.

This paper deals with the operation of a flywheel energy storage UPS. The ups has good features such as long life-time, improved efficiency, no environment problems, reduced size and space, and low maintenance cost compared with the conventional UPS using battery. The operating principle of the UPS is analysed in each mode including charging, voltage compensation, discharging, and voltage unbalance compensation. Especially, the tracking characteristic of the disturbed phase of the source voltage after outage is analysed. The usefulness of the operation is proved through simulations.

A new single stage AC/DC converter based on the forward converter is proposed. The proposed converter offers both the high power factor and the direct conversion from ac line to de output voltage. Also, the proposed converter reduces the diode conduction loss, so improves the overall efficiency of the converter, compared with other alternatives. The principles of operation and the simulation results of the proposed converter are presented. A 100 W prototype was built and tested to show the potential of applications of the proposed converter.<br/> <br/>

This paper proposed a control strategy for flywheel energy/recovery system with induction machine. The system is based on a vector controlled induction machine driving a flywheel and address the problem of regulating the DC-Link system voltage against input power shut-down. And we proposed the method to damp the oscillation of DC-Link. Experimental results are presented which verify the performance of the strategy.

This paper describes an improved short-circuit protection for a multilevel ac/dc power converter. The output dc power of the proposed converter can be disconnected from the load within several hundred microseconds at the instant of short-circuit fault. Once the fault has been cleared the dc power is reapplied to the load. The rising time of the dc load voltage is as small as several hundred microseconds, and there is no overshoot of the dc voltage because the dc output capacitors hold undischarged state. Therefore, the proposed converter can be used for a power supply, which requires a rapid disconnection of the load from the power supply in the case of a short circuit, as well as a rapid connection the load to the power supply after the clearance of the short circuit condition.

This Paper describes a new 3 phase Sag-Swell generator for the test of custom power devices such as UPS, DVR, DSTATCOM, SSTS, etc. The proposed scheme has good features of simple structure, high reliability, wide range of sag and swell variation. It can also generate voltage outage. The control scheme for the generation is simple. The operation principle of the proposed scheme is described and verified through simulations.

This paper deals with a novel 3-phase power quality disturbance generator. The proposed generator can be applied to the performance that of custom power devices. Voltage sag, swell, outage unbalance and phase shift are provided by the generator. The control scheme for the disturbance generation is simple, and hardware setup is cost effective compared with conventional scheme. The operating principle of the generator is described and the usefulness verified through simulation with 10㎸A power rating.

Since 1960s. con tamer shipping volume has increased dramatically and continuous on a trend of rapid growth, and so the number of containers handled at the port increases In order to improve yard crane operating efficiency, the precise position measurement of the yard crane is important. This paper describes the method to measure the absolute position of yard crane using the output pulse of an encoder and infrared sensors. The crane position is calculated by counting the output pulse of an incremental encoder, which is mounted on the wheel in the crane By the way, the wheel slippage on rail may cause some errors in crane position information obtained from encoder pulses, and the errors in the crane position information are compensated with infrared sensors. The performance of proposed method is verified on experimental results with the simulator of yard crane, the size of which is about 1/10 with the real crane.
