        Characteristic and Lactate dehydrogenase titer of platelet components obtained with three type of cell separators compared with random donor platelet concentrates were investigated. Collective efficiency of platelets obtained with the Amicus™ and Trima were higher than with the MCS+. The effect of biochemical changes on pH, Blood Gas permeability, Glucose and LDH in platelet concentrates obtained with the Amicus™ and Trima were more preserved than in concentrates from the MCS+, but LDH titer of SDP were not effectively seen compared with RDP. Therefore, we indicated that different plateletphresis procedure induced distinct changes of platelet function Platelets obtained with the MCS cell separator were significantly more activated than platelets harvested with the Amicus™ and Trima.

        Biochemical changes and icon of platelets on platelet concentrates preserved for a 5 day term in several plastic containers were investigated. The authors evaluated the TOTM-PVC second generation container produced by Green Cross Medical Corp. and Boin medica. Blood obtained from 40 persons was manufactured for platelet concentrates within 4 hours and each divided into 20 units of platelet concentrations. Samples were taken at 0, 3, and 5 days and the platelet count, pH, p02, pC02, HC03-, glucose, LDH, lactate, electrolytes, and mineral element were tested. ’fhe number and MPV, for platelets icon, were well preserved on two different platelet concentrates during storage. A test for biochemical function appeared to be effective data. pH was maintained above 6.8 on two different platelet concentrates during storage. The results suggest that the TOTM-PVC second generation platelets storage container produced by Green Cross Medical Corp. and Boin medica was able to preserve platelets for at least five days without lesion and was it concluded to have biochemical efficacy on patients with transfusions.

      • 갑상선질환의 세침흡인도말검사에서 질환별 특징적인 소견에관한 연구: 유두상 암종과 다른 질환과의 비교를 중심으로

        This study observed appearance existence and non-existence of nuclear groove, intranuclear pseudoinclusion, papi1lae, psammoma body, lymphocyte, multinucleated giant histiocyte and follicular structure that is a feature of cytologic change in FNAC of several thyroid nodules, and analyzed cytologic features of other thyroid diseases in comparison with papillary carcinoma of the thyroid. The FNAC total in 103cases(Benign lesion 40cases, Neoplasm 22cases and Malignant lesion 41cases) through a Hematoxylin-eosin and Papanicolaou stain from cytomorphologic change by nodular lesions was observed and compared. The results were as follows. A papillary structure(88%) and psammoma body(24%) were observed in papi1lary carcinoma, and intranuclear pseudoinclusion was observed in papi1lary carcinoma(94%) and medullary carcinoma(29%), and nuclear grooves were observed in all nodular lesions(table 5). Appearance of lymphocytes was observed in all nodular lesions except hurthle cell tumor but appearance frequency was highly remarkable in grave’s disease(l 00%), hashimoto’s thyroiditis(1 00%) and subacute thyroiditis( 100%). A multinucleated giant histiocyte was observed in subacute thyroiditis(loo%), papillary carcinoma(82%), adenomatous goiter(33%) and hashimoto’s thyroiditis(26% ) but expressed a high appearance frequency in subacute thyroiditis(Table 5). A follicular structure was observed in all nodular lesions except hurthle cell tumor and sub acute thyroiditis but expressed a high appearance frequency in follicular neoplasm(loo%) and grave’s disease(loo%) (Table 5). Conclusively, a papillary structure and psammoma body of cytologic features change showed papi1lary carcinoma in FNAC but it is considered when diagnosing papillary carcinoma because nuclear grooves and intranuclear pseudoinclusion can be observed in other nodular lesions.

        Zinc is one of the trace elements playing an important role in many fundamental biological process. The divalent cation zinc has been reported to possess several physiological properties such as blocking apoptotic cell death through an inhibitory effect on Ca²+, Mg²+ endonuclease activity, or modulating the neurotoxicity via glutamate receptor subtypes. In the present study, we investigated the effect of peripherally injected zinc on delayed neuronal cell death seen in the hippocampus after transient global ischemia, in order to elucidate a possible beneficial role on zinc in ischemic neuronal cell death. Forty adult Mongolian gerbils of male underwent transient bilateral clipping the common carotid arteries for 5 min. In the pretreated animals, ZnCl₂(20mg/kg) was injected subcutaneously once, 1hr before ischemia. Histological survey was carried out 4 days later by in situ DNA fragmentation method and hematoxylin-eosin staining by semiquantatively counting dead neurons in the CA1 sector. And ultrastructural study was also undertaken to determine the effect of zinc on the evolution of transient global ischemia-induced neuronal injury in the gerbil hippocampus. In histological and ultrastructural study, pretreatment of zinc significantly reduced the nuclear damage and subsequent neuronal death against ischemic damage. The result of the present study suggest that the pretreatment of zinc might be an effective tool for the treatment of cerebral ischemia.

      • Penicillinase Producing N.gonorrhoeae株와 Nom-Penicillinase Producing N.gonorrhoeae株의 약제 감수성에 관한 비교연구

        Studies were carried out to evaluate the actual status of the carriers infected with N. gonorrhoeae among the high-risk populations over the country and to determine the drug resistance patterns of β-lactamase producing N. gonorrhocae isolates, in particular attention to the recent increasing discoveries of Penicillinase producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains this country. The results could be summerized as follows: 1. The isolation rate of N. gonorrhoeae from the suspicious gonorrhoeal patients (men) were 37.5% on the average, out of a total of 817 examined, but from the prostitutes or bar-girls the isolation rate showed 9.4% on the average out of 3.609 examined, of the isolated 644 gonorrhoeal strains, one hundred and fifty-three strains were detected as β-lactamase producing N. gonorrhoeae. The average detection rate of β-lactamase producing N. gonorrhoeae was 23.8%, but the frequency of PPNG detection was much different depening on the areas where the specimens collected ranging from 3.8%(Chun buk do) to 41.2%(Kyung buk do), except the area Jaeju island where on PPNG was detected. 2. Most non-PPNG strains were able to be inhibited at the concentration of the drugs below 32ug/ml of Penicillin G and 8ug/ml of Ampicillin, but nearly half or more than half of the β-lactamase producing N. gonorrhoeae strains were not inhibited at 32ug/ml of the drugs, In other words, β-lactamase producing N. gonorrhoeae had acquired high resistance to Pehicillin G and Ampicillin. 3. In susceptibility of PPNG and non-PPNG to spectinomycin, Kanamycin, Tetracycline, Erythromycin, Cefuroxin, Cefoperazone, it seemed to be no significant diffevence, but some exceptions showing a peculiar drug resistance to 16ug/ml of Cefuroxin, 64ug/ml of Kanamycin, 512ug/ml of Spectinomycin or 32ug/ml of Tetracycline. And also a few multi-resistance like PPNG strains could rarely be detected showing resistance to the concentration of Tetracycline 32ug/ml, Cefuroxin 16ug/ml, Kanamycin 64ug/ml. 4. In the correlation of inhibitory Zone size dise diffusion method on the MICS by agar plate dilution method to 89 N. gonorrhoeae strains with Pencillin G, Ampicillin, Erythromycin, Tetracycline, and chlorampenicol, Ampicillin showed the highest correlation coefficient as an absolute value showing r=-0.7598, which had negative correlation. Through these studies β-lactamase producing N. gonorrhoeae strains were able to be found from the specimens collected through all over the provinces of the country except the Island of Jaejudo hopsitols.

      • 한국산 족부 백선균의 항진균제 감수성에 관한 연구

        Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of griseofulvin, imidazole derivatives such as ketoconazole, econazole, miconazole and itraconazole on 52 strains of Trichophyton ruhrum, 22 strains of T. mentagraphytes, 10 strains of Microsporum spp. and 1 strain of Epidermophyton floccosum were determined after one week of incubation at 25C on Sabouraud dextrose broth. The results were summarized as followes : 1. The MICs of griseofulvin against 4 different tinea pedis fungi were ranged from 10-100mcg/ml. This values indicated that effectiveness of antifungal activity were relatively lower than those of three other imidazole derivatives such as ketoconazole, econazole, miconazole and one itraconazole. 2. Out of three imidazole derivatives, econazole had relatively higher inhibitory concentrations with 0.1-10mcg/ml against all tinea pedis isolated. 3. Out of 5 antifungal agents, itraconazole which is trizole derivatives showed the highest inhibitory activity with 0.1-10mcg/ml against all tinea pedis tested. 4. These results indicated that inhibitory activity of griseofulvin against tinea pedis were lower than those of four other antifungal agents tested. But these four antifungal agents such as ketoconazole, econazole, miconazole and. itraconazole were effective against tinea pedis tested.

      • 쇄목펄프폐수를 이용한 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis의 Spore-Crystal 복합체 생산에 관하여

        쇄목펄프공정폐수를 이용하여 상품균주인 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Comm. B.t.i)와 serotype H-14인 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis(Serotype B.t.i)의 spore-crystal복합체 생산성과 폐수의 BOD 감소량을 조사하였다. 펄프폐수에 Peptone 1.0%, K₂HPO₄ 0.05%, MgSO₄ㆍ7H₂O 0.01% 및 CaCl₂0.02% 등을 첨가하여 균주를 30℃에서 200rpm 으로 진탕배양했을때 Comm. B.t.i는 배양40시간에, Serotype B.t.i는 배양 32시간에 최대 생장을 나타냈다. 배양 72시간에 생성된 아포 수는 Comm. B.t.i는 8.3 ×?? spores/ml, Serotype B.t.i는 6.4 x ?? spores/ml였고, 폐수의 BOD는 71-72%의 감소를 나타냈다. 두 균주가 생성한 spore-crystal복합체의 농도가 ?? spores/ml 일때 Culex pipens 유충은 12시간내에 100% 치사되었다. Effect of some nutrient on the growth of Bacillus thuringiensis var.israelensis in the ground wood pulp will waste liquor was determined during an attempt to lower the BOD content of the waste liquor and to produce spore-crystal complex by bacteria. The stain applied were commercial Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Comm. B.t.i) and serotype H-14, Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis(Serotype B.t.i), The necessity of the addition of 1.0% pep-tone, 0.05% K₂HPO₄, 0.01% MgSO₄7H₂O and 0.02% CaCl₂for the best growth of two strains in the waste liquor was ascertained as a result. Comm. B.t.i was at a maximal growth after the 40 hour of incubation but Serotype B.t.i, after the 32 hour of incubation of the strains in the supplemental waste liquor, spore count of Comm. B.t.i and Serotype B.t.i were 8.3 x ?? spores/ml and 6.4 x ?? spores/ml respectively and the BOD content of the waste liquor was lowered by about 70%. Two strains showed 100% of lethal rate, when Culex pipiens larvae were exposed to ?? spores/ml of concentration of spore-crystal complex.

        Reviewing and comparing the certifying systems for clinical laboratory scientists in some developed countries would be meaningful for us in the renovation of our current systems. Through the homepages of relevant organizations in five countries we got the information on education and certifying systems for clinical laboratory scientists. And we also e-mailed or made phone calls directly to the chairpersons for more additional data. The ladders systems in both educational and certifying were well developed in the United States compared to other countries. In Japan and Korea, it seemed that too many competencies are required for the entry-level medical technologist requiring even competencies in the fields of histo-pathology, cytology, clinical physiology in the current medical technologist' s job descriptions. Now we have to evaluate the applicants' competencies at the entry-level and establish the content outlines as a guideline for the applicants. For more reliable and efficient evaluations we might consider adopting the computerized testing like CBT or CAT.
