Colorectal cancer is one of the most common alimentary malignancies. In this study, the antitumor activity of activated human natural killer (NK) cells against human colorectal cancer was evaluated in vivo. Human NK cells are the key contributors of innate immune response and the effective functions of these cells are enhanced by cytokines. Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were cultured with interleukin-2 (IL-2)-containing medium for 14 days and resulted in enriched NK cell population. The resulting populations of the cells comprised 7% CD3+CD4+ cells, 25% CD3+CD8+ cells, 13% CD3-CD8+ cells, 4% CD3+CD16/CD56+ cells, 39% CD3+CD16/CD56- cells, and 52% CD3-CD16/CD56+ cells. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interferon gamma (IFN-γ), IL-2, IL-4, and IL-5 transcripts of the activated NK cells were confirmed by RT-PCR. In addition, activated NK cells at doses of 2.5, 5 and 10 million cells per mouse inhibited 10%, 34% and 47% of SW620-induced tumor growth in nude mouse xenograft assays, respectively. This study suggests that NK cell-based immunotherapy may be used as an adoptive immunotherapy for colorectal cancer patients.

이매패류 Saxidemus purpuratus에 공생하는 Herrmannella속에 속하는 요각류 1신종을 H. hoonsooi라고 명명하여 기재한다. 이 종은 두흉부가 주걱 모양이고 몸통의 전반부 및 일부 부속지에 투명질을 가지는 것이 특징이다. 극동에서 발견된 동일 속의 6종에 대한 검색표도 기록했다. A new species of the genus Herrmannella is described under the name of H. hoonsooi from the bivalve host, Saxidomus purpuratus. This species is characteristic in that the cephalothorax is spatulate, and the prosome and some parts of body have a hyaline material. A key to six Far Eastern species of the genus is provided.
Copepods (Crustacea) Associated with Marine Invertebrates from New Caledonia

남태평양에 있는 뉴칼레도니아의 무척추동물에 공생하는 요각류를 기록하였다. 3신속 (Ruhtra, Pterioidicola, Pachysericola), 30신종이 포함되어 있으며, 이들은 천장입요각목 및 대롱입요각목 내의 다음과 같은 속에 해당된다: Anchimolgus속 (5신종), Jamescookina속 (2신종), Odontomologus속 (2신종), Schedomolgus속 (3신종), Scyphuliger속 (5신종), Critomolgus속 (3신종), Doridicola속 (1신종), Paramolgus속 (2신종), 신속 Pterioidicola (1신종), 과의 위치가 불분명한 신속 Ruhtra (1신종), Asteropontius속 (5신종). 뉴칼레도니아의 미기록종과 새로운 숙주에 대해서도 기록하였다. 지금까지 기록된 뉴칼레도니아산 공생성 요각류 251종과 이들의 무척추동물 숙주 163종의 목록도 제시하였다. Copepods associated with marine invertebrates are recorded from New Caledonia. Included are three new genera and 30 new species which are distributed in the poecilostomatoid and siphonostomatoid genera Anchimolgus (5 new species), Jamescookina (2), Odontomologus (2), Schedomolgus (3), and Scyphuliger (5) in the Anchimolgidae; Pterioidicola n. gen. (1) in the Lichomolgidae; Critomolgus (3), Doridicola (1), Paramolgus (1), and Pachysericola n. gen. (1) in the Rhynchomolgidae; Ruhtra n. gen. (1) in an uncertain family; and Asteropontius (5) in the Asterocheridae. Copepods new to New Caledonia and new host records are also included. Lists of 251 species of copepods known hitherto from New Caledonia and their 163 species of invertebrate hosts are provided, as well.
Three New Species of Cirripedia (Crustacea) from Korea

한국 남해에서 채집된 성게에 부착한 유병 만각류 1신종 Paralepas phyllacanthusi와 해면속에 사는 무병 만각류 2신종 Acasta paraspinifera 및 A. chejudoensis를 기재한다. A new sea urchin -attached pedunculate cirriped Paralepas phyllacanthusi and two new sponge -inhabiting balamorph cirripeds Acasta paraspinifera and A. chejudoensis are described from southern sea of Korea.

Occurrence and diversity of planktonic crustaceans in relation to pH was studied in the rice fields of the eastern Korea. one hundred twenty seven surveyed water samples showed pH values of 2.7∼10.3, of which those of pH 3.2∼10.3 were found to contain crustaceans. The crustaceans occurred in these rice filelds are composed of 20 species consisted in 10 species of branchiopods and 10 species of copepods. It is found that the species diversity decreases distinctly in the acidity lower than pH 6.5 and that Diacyclops crassicaudis is the species most tolerant to low pH. In the rice fileds with acidity lower than pH 4.5, only the cladoceran Moina macrocopa and three copepod species, Diacyclops crassicaudis, Eucyclops serrulatus, Thermocyclops dybowskii were collected. Each of the latter three had never co-occurred with other species of the three. Deduced from the distributional difference of these three species between Korea and foreign countries, it is presumed that the three copepods are very weak in species competition.
요각류의 Nauplius 유생의 생존과 발생에 미치는 pH 의 영향 및 Diacyclops crassicaudis 의 Nauplius 유생 단계

Nauplii larvae of four freshwater copepod species are examined for their survival and developemental rates depending on various pH. In acidity lower than pH 4.2, all the nauplii survived net more than five days and died at nauplius 1 or 2. For the successful development of six naupliar stages. pH 4.3 or more was needed for Eucyclops serrulatus, and pH 4.5 or more for Diacyclops crassicaudis, Cyclops strenuus and Megacyclops viridis. It was found that the small-bodied species developed more rapidly than the large-bodied species. However, there was no significant differences in acidity tolerance of nauplii among the species. It is therefore very likely that the evident distributional differences of freshwater copepods in the rice fields of the eastern Korea studied formerly by the author are due to the species competition, rather than due to the species-dependent differences of acidity tolerance. This finding is also consistent with the prevlous explanations that the species competition in acidified waters results in the dominance of Zooplankton species haying small body and rapid reproduction. Diacyclops crassicaudis, one of the four examined species, is described for the morphological transformations appeared during its naupliar development and discussed as to the morphological generalities of nauplii of the cyclopoid copepods.
