This paper explores the feasibility of estimating the sound pressure level (SPL) in a vehicle compartment when the attachment stiffness (i.e., the local stiffness of the connecting point at which operational force is applied) is changed. The FRF-based synthesis (FBS) technique and FRF-based substructure identification method are used to estimate the change in attachment stiffness and simulate noise transfer function (NTF). The proposed methods are verified by comparing the estimated NTF with the measured results when the stiffness of the attachment is increased by connecting an additional beam to that attachment is required to estimate the SPL in the vehicle compartment, a transfer path analysis (TPA) is also performed to calculate the force data. The sound pressure levels in various operating conditions are estimated ultimately by using force data from the TPA procedure and the NTF estimated from the FBS technique.
