The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between training amount and burnout of student athletes. For this purpose elite student athletes were selected from Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gyeongnam, and Gangwon provinces in football, baseball, taekwondo, athletics, swimming, and judo for a total of 607 athletes in the study. The results were analyzed using Windows SPSS 21.0. Statistical analysis was conducted using reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, frequency analysis, ANOVA with a Scheffe post-hoc test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The results are as follows- First, high school students appeared to express the highest levels of ‘emotional exhaustion’ with middle school and elementary school students showing decreasing levels, again with elementary school students indicating lower levels. In contrast, the degree of ‘personal accomplishment’ was highest among middle school students. ‘Depersonalization’ was greatest in high school students. Second, the training amount and Overtraining Recognition of student athletes was found to have a significant negative influence training camp, while other factors have a significant positive influence. Third, appropriate daily training time, weeklong training sessions, annual tournament partcipation frequency had significant impacts on emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Training camp and tournaments had a positive effect on personal accomplishment, while a negative relationship between daily training time and personal accomplishment was indicated. Fourth, Overtraining Recognition and burnout was found to have a significant positive influence emotional exhaustion and depersonalizaion, while a negative influence personal accomplishment.
